Just wondering about the advantages, disadvantages, carry-over, etc.

I train with a college team and we have to buy all our own implements on a college student budget (with most of our money going towards food) so I was planning on building a chain yoke with stuff from Home Depot, but you don't see the chain in competition often.

I have a yoke but no chain yoke. I would think the difference would be stabilization. You most likely would not be able to use as much weight on the chain yoke. This may be good in that the CNS might not get so fried. I would think the chain would be even better for core.

But for contest it's always best to try and mimic the contest or heavier. So if the chain made you drop 100-150lbs off your normal yoke weight.... then when you hit a contest the weight may be damn heavy.

All I have is a chain yoke, First time I used a yoke was in a contest and since using the chain yoke MAN it made the regular yoke feel easy. In a perfect world youd have both but I think a chain yoke will do you just fine for now and build the core very well. You will lack the ability somewhat to really get the speed with a heavy load but you can always add a yoke to your menu later

Phil is right on.
The chain yoke will work your core much more than a std. yoke. You will not be able to handle as much weight but it is a great tool to have in addition to a std. yoke.
