Good luck to Kevin Nowak who will soon be on his way to China to represent the USA against the best 105KG athletes in the world i have no doubt he will do us all proud. As a former US champion and just as well rounded of a strongman u can find i can think of no better athlete to take my place. As 105KG athletes we know that we are second to the heavyweights thats obvious by the recognition or rather lack there of from sponsers and promoters for example there isnt even mention of it on the ifsa site, but for now lets all get behind him and give him the support he deserves. Give em hell Kevin and keep us updated if possible.---spy

I believe the events are:

1.MEDLEY (tyre flip, sand bags carry, farmers walk)

2. CONAN CIRCLE
3. POLE PUSH
4. LOG LIFT

5. STONES
6. ARM OVER ARM
7. DEAD LIFT

8. FARMERS WALK (for time)
9. TRUCK PULL HARNESS AND ROPE
10. YOKE RACE

Not sure if the log lift will be done with those crazy ladder things like last time.

Wow, first 10 competitors separated by a relatively small margin, just over 5 seconds... will be interesting to see how the field pulls apart through the next events.

Great job Kevin!

From sdf/finnish forum:

stones: hartikainen about 30s, Maris 35s, Sergi 36 ja fourth maybe alvidas (or danny?)

log press for reps ground overhead, 110kg (the plates were wrong size for the log, so no max log after all):
- Sergi 9x,
- Maris 8x,
- Hartikainen and 5 others 7x

Log battle: sergi won, but his knee got injured. Rules were not very clear in the head to head battle.

At the moment the situation is:
- Sergi 101,5
- Hartikainen 99,5
- Alvidas 90
- etc....

Tomorrow conan, yoke and truck pull with harness

From americanstrongman.com

Day three events started with the Wenhua Down and Feather Cup Atlas Stones.
Instead of the round traditional stones, the stones were shaped liked Gold Chinese coins, ranging in weights from 110kg, 120kg, 140kg, 160kg, and 170kg.

The stones were loaded to an 110cm platform in a 90 second time limit. The top three finishers in the event were Janne Hartikainen of Finland (5 stones 30.05), Maris Rozentals of Latvia (5 stones 34.90), and Sergi Konyushok of Ukraine (5 stones 35.92).

Following the stones was the Royal Marina Cup Log lift clean and press for reps (110kg-75 secs). The top three finishers in the Log lift was Sergi Konyushok of Ukraine (9 repetitions), Maris Rozentals of Latvia (8 repetitions), and since there were six athletes that tied for third place with seven repetitions each, they drew names for the trophy cup. The name drawn was Patrik Baboumian of Germany.

The final event of the day was the pole push. The athletes drew names as to who would be paired together. The top three winners of the pole push were Piotr Piechowiak of Poland, Kesler Nos of Hungary, and Sergi Konyushok of Ukraine. The top three in the overall is now Sergi Konyushok (101.5 pts), Janne Hartikainen (99.5 pts.), and Alvidas Brazdzius (90.5 pts).

The final three events tomorrow will decide the overall champion.

The final three events are Panyu Tourism Yoke Walk, Guangzhou Daily Cup Conan’s Circle, and the Chime-Long Tourist Resort Cup Truck Pull.

Can't say for sure, but it looks like the same stuff we used in 05. They may have changed the height.

My gut tells me they probably had it higher this time around. But, could be wrong.

I hope they actual televise it this time. Not sure what happened to all the video shot in 2005. There were video crews all over the place.

Here's the apparatus used this year -

http://74.205.126.46/ironmind/opencms/system/galleries/ironmind/Maris-Rozental_th.jpg

Hard to see exactly how much travel it has, but judging by the length of the legs at the bottom, it's not much.

Either way, 500kgs from almost any height for a 105 guy is pretty nuts.

BrentHamm
12-18-2007, 02:15 PM
I have no idea what the weight was in 05. They jus added bricks to the thing tell it felt heavy. I would guess, it was like a 550lb deadlift in difficulty.

Sounds like Janne won for the thrid straight year. Really nice guy. Congrats to him and all the others.

yeah, just got done watching his videos. Very impressive, especially where he does 300 for 4 on the log and then does a 410lb log bench for 2. His 400x4 front squat was impressive also.
Nice to know what the #1 guy is capable of in the gym, i guess we all need to step it up a little
