Hey guys I made a wicked cool squat video but I had it put to a DVD from the camera and I cant seem to get the video to open in windows movie maker or imovie (not sure why)so I am gonna try and just upload it unedited but I can't find a site that will allow more than 10minutes of video (it's about 12mins total, if I could edit it it would be about 8.5)....any suggestions or tips, I'm retarded when it comes to this kind of thing. Thanks!

You can upload it to a site like www.megaupload.com or www.yousendit.com then maybe someone can see if they can save it as a windows media file or something

If I understand this correctly, you are trying to get the video off of the dvd to windows movie maker or iMovie? If so, those editing softwares, along with everyone, don't take the format for dvd's. If possible, try to record it directly to your computer, if not you can do this-
Your camera should come with component cables (the yellow, white, red ones) (You need them on both ends)
Hook that up to the output on your DVD player
Connect the other end into your camera
Set your camera up to playback mode, and change the settings so that the video is coming into the camera, from output to input
Also, change it so that DV is going out
Then hook up your firewire cable, (the one used to connect from camera to computer) and your computer should read it
Then start capturing on your computer and give about a one second lead before you push play on your DVD player
That should work, but I'm not really sure on what you're trying to do.

If it is on a DVD, and therefore in a DVD format, you should just be able to rip it using Windows Media Player or whatever.
Can you play it (not edit it) on your PC?

Yeah I can play it but cannot edit it even though I have already ripped it to my comp.

Oh... ummm... in that case... yeah, I've got no idea. Why you can rip it and view it, but not edit it... that would suggest it's in a format that your editing package can't read.
If you can find out what format it's in, you should then be able to get a bit of software to convert it to something useable.
Whether this is any help to you or not is another matter of course...

What is the extension (after the dot) name of the file? For example..
.wmv
.mpg
.mpeg
what is yours?
To be safe and save time, just rip it again and make sure you are ripping it to .wmv format, then open in Windows Move Maker and edit. I don't know squat about iMovie..:)

iMovie is about the same but uses avi and mpg/mpeg/mp4 formats
