Im thinking about getting a CoC. I would like to know what # of gripper everyone can close and what the bench, squat, and deadlift is.
THANK YOU! :BP:

I originally got 1 and 2 and couldn't close either. With some trainer work I got the 1. My deadlift was about 450ish when I finally closed the 1. I could pinch lift two 25s.
Right now my lifts are DL 480 SQ 405 BP 275 and my best vbar is 230ish. I can close the 1 with my right hand for about five parallel clicks.

I closed a 2 first time I tried it and my 3 lifts are pathetically low for a HW. Grip strength is in no way related to the 3 lifts. If you think your grip is great, get a Trainer, a 1 and a 1.5. If you have the cash get a 2 and/or 2.5. Lighter ones serve a purpose, even if you can close the heavier ones.

Ditto to that. At my first experience with grippers, my numbers were probably 500-330-500, and it took me a while before I could close a #1. Even now I can only close a #2 with my good hand on a good day.

grip strength and the 3 lifts have nothing in common. Some of the strongest grip guys in the world don't even lift.

Thanks every body, and thanks Billy Wolt. Older guys tend to have the advantage on grip. lol

I just started playing around with grippers last week. I closed a #1 and can rep it fairly easily. Then got a #2 within about a centimeter of touching. Both belong to the trainer at my school and are pretty well broken in so I ordered my own #1 and #2 to see what I'm like on fresh ones.

First day i got mine i could rep the #1 for around 5 and barely close the 2 with right hand only...
i would just buy the #1 and try it, then you'll know if you should get a trainer or a 1.5 or 2 as your second one. If you got a good grip start with a 2 and determine what else you need from there

I would get the trainer. If it's to light it will work as great warm up gripper.

Come on Pat - you know powerlifting and grip training are two totally different worlds.
CoC also may not have the best carryover to farmers if that is why you are looking to incorporate them, but if you are just looking for a crazy all around grip then they are a good training tool. Dave has a #1 in his truck and I have an old #2 from him that is still fairly challenging along with a "trainer" - next time we train I will bring them and you can figure out what your starting point is.
Maybe I will bring some 6" bolts to bend and we can mess with those as well. The Linden Yard guys have a couple strong grip guys who do a lot of that training and it is really cool.
For now you can just do some hangs from a revolving bar on top of a power rack with some weights hanging from you or some thick bar shrugs / etc.

THANKS Tom I really appreciate it alot. I am starting to get back on track, I got 14hours of sleep just woke up from a nap, now ready to go to work and eat. I will be 100% next time we train.

First time I got the #1, I couldn't close it, now I can close the #2 a couple months later. I would say get a #1, even if you can't close it, you'll improve quickly.

No claims of closing the #4 without proof

Yeah it doesn't seem to relate to your lifts at all. Someone a little stronger than average can probably close a #1 for a few reps but I'd also get a trainer for doing warmup and light training with. You can also simply put a clamp on it to increase tension, like on the page here http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah/Grunt/Grip_1.html
I have never tried this myself yet, but he says that works.
