Benedikt Magnusson deadlifted 992 pounds in training yesterday in Denmark while preparing for the strongman competition at the Arnold Classic. His workout consisted of deadlifting 705, 793, 881, and 925 before the 992. Magnusson plans to step back on the powerlifting platform in 2008, likely in the Spring. He has the second highest deadlift of all-time. His 970 is behind only Andy Bolton's 1,003 pounds. If you can read Icelandic, check out his blog (Got this from powerliftingwatch.com)

Its in another language his blog that is and I couldn't even tell you what it is, but by his training log its says he put up 992 in training. He should be a bigger threat in the Hummer Dead at the Arnold this year if his tank doesn't expire before then and should put up over 1000 on it if he has gas in the tank. Pretty sick deadlifting if you ask me!

That is so much weight. If someone deadlifts like 600 I can think "Wow that's a lot compared to my 480" and I can relate to it. But 992 is just so much weight I can't relate to it. It's like Angus MacAskill lifting a 2800 lb anchor.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking... or something.

Andy Bolten is a very strong man. That being said Bennys 970 was much cleaner, smoother pull, hips through, shoulders back, not just straight. If he is pulling 992 in training we might see a 1012 from him in a powerlifting meet. He will slaughter the Dl record at the Arnold with the higher pull. Four tires might fall this year!!

There is no greater fun in lifting than watching Benny lift. His form is spectacular and I love his intensity and stage presence.

Benny is maybe the friendliest person I have ever met. I can't wait 'til he holds the DL record!

Wow congrats to Benni... He is on a roll 992 DL, just got married to Gemma, and he's switched to WSM.
My question is how much does a conventional DL translate to the hummer DL at the Arnold? I was watching a few vids of the previous arnolds and saw Big beat Benni in the DL... THis was really suprising and I was wondering how much big Z could DL conv.

Zydrunas, Siders, Pekanov, and Magnusson are all gonna be looking to hit 4 tires on the DL. I think that is 1062lbs.

i think its going to be a good tough battle between 2 of the strongest deadlifters in history
andy bolton nearly completed a 460kg deadlift (1015lb) and still looked like he could do more if he held onto the bar. Benni hit a 992lb, (no video yet though) and he should be good to have a battle with Andy like before
Cant wait!

Garrick, not exactly sure on the start list for the Arnolds, but don't rule out Hollands and Felix from that group.

Yeah, Terry's deadlift has gone through the roof recently. Viking Challenge last year was axle dead for max and he tied for 1st place with Mariusz.
I'm not sure Felix is going to be at the Arnold, is he? He did that comp. in the Ukraine last weekend that was Arnold style, and the winner (Pekanov) got an invite to the Arnold.
Don't think Felix would have done that if he was invited already.
Just guessing obviously.

Yea I heard from Terry that he was looking to pull 920ish this month! (saw a vid of him missing it at the knees!!!!) For some odd reason Mark doesn't seem to do as well from a partial DL.....freak show from the ground though....I hope he is in the Arnold....I'd love to see what he can do.

920?! HA HA! Good grief, I had no idea he was up there.
With those kinds of numbers and his body weight, it will be interesting to see what he can do at the Arnolds.

Yeah, I've noticed that. I mean, that comp the other week with the partial deadlift he pulled high 800s. I'm pretty sure he can do high 800s from the ground without too much thought.
Presumably there must be a final list of competitors for the Arnolds out there somewhere? Isn't it two weeks from now?

Jono, yeah I am very interested to watch Terry Hollands. I see the rumors of a 920 DL but is that official? He stated in the Mohegan interview that he is better moving fast with very heavy weight. I think he is gonna impress the hell outta everyone there though!!

I don't know Garrick, why don't you PM Terry? I'm not his manager, training partner or girlfriend. :P
Personally, I'm sure Terry at least in part would appreciate a dark horse status going into this event. But I'm somewhat confident that 400lbs of Terry is more than capable of dealing with a guy like Siders on the Hummer dead.

Mark Felix is definitely not going. I think he would do well though if he had been invited. He finished second behind Pekanov in the Ukraine, quite a bit ahead of the rest of the field, and only 4 (I think) points behind Pekanov, who as we all know is an absolute monster.

I competed against Terry 2 months ago, and his performance on the 18" axle Deadlift was very impressive. He blew up 960lbs and broke 1067lbs off the ground (think had he gone for about 20lbs less he'd have made it). Terry had a very smooth lifting style which should translate well to the Hummer deadlift. Can see him easily pulling 1000lbs+ at the Arnolds.

Ahh dude, thanks for that information! That is crazy, who knew that Terry is in such a position to possibly take out the best deadlifters in the world!
Terry moves so fast with the yoke and frame also, he for sure will impress the heck outta a lot of people!!
Can't wait to see him and meet him, may have to get some bifocals or something to see his face way up there!
Thanks again!
