Sorry if someone has already posted about this, but I saw an article in PowerliftingUSA about brute strength gym in Norfolk Virginia. This place is like heaven on earth. It reminds me alot of Art McDermotts place in Mass. You can train strongman indoors and out, as they have a 100 foot straight away for yoke, tire, farmers, etc. They have a conans, power stairs, a bunch of logs and stones, axles, kegs, you name it. There are also lifting platforms to do olympic, power, or log lifting on. Also they have dumbells going up to 200 pounds. There is a lobby that has a big screen tv where the only thing they play is strongman, powerlifting, or the 300! Almost enough to make me move out of Texas. I'll stop drooling now, check it out-

Brute Strength Gym is the real deal....I haven't found a gym anywhere that compares..As already been pointed out it has EVERYTHING a strongman and powerlifter needs...I've trained down there a bunch of times, I live up in Northern Virginia and travel 3+ hours just to train their...I have family down but it's just another excuse to go down and train...It's part of the reason that I'm going to move down their soon, and also way too expensive to live in the DC area...

good prices also 360$ a year, thats under a dollar a day. Not bad for a non corporate gym with all the goodies like that maybe it will start a trend

I have friends that have invited me up for a training session a few times now. It's only about 2-1/2 hours away from me, give or take. I need to quit being a tard and get my butt up there.

I have heard of this gym and like everyone else, I think it is an awsome facility. I have never been there and I wish I lived closer so that I can train there. They also put on strongman comps and powerlifting meets. Just visit www.powerandstrength.com to see what is coming up. They are actually holding a strongman comp April 27th this year.

....I'm curious how long the gym has been around? Just wondering if a gym that limits the potential members so drastically (power, strongman, heavy lifter, etc) is able to gain many members? As I recall, Norfolk is just a mid-sized city. I'm not sure, but I'd think a gym needs close to 500 members just to pay bills and pay an owner salary, assuming the owner isn't absentee.
Major props to this operation......I'm just interested in it's viability as a business. Brandon Cambell wondered if it would "start a trend" and I am kinda wondering the same thing.

I think it's fairly new. I'm pretty sure it opened sometime last year. Don't quote me on that, but I don't think it's been around very long.

Brute Strength Gym is an awesome gym. I have done a strongman comp there it was very small but well run like it has been said all the equipment is top notch. The Olympic lifting club I beliong to has put on a lifting comp there. The gym was very receptive of alot the members showed up and were loving it. If your ever in the area go by you wont regret it I think theyve been open round a year and a half to two years nw.
