I'm probably going to be visiting with one of my friends in March. I know there's a lot of Boston people on here, so can anyone give me some info on what fun things there are to do? I'm going with one of my girl friends, but she likes the red sox as well, so i was figuring a tour of fenway since the season hasn't started. We also want to check out sam adams brewery, and paul revere's house? Any other suggestions or tips on getting around there? We will be relying on the public transportation to get around. Thanks.

Boston Duck Tour!

I was in Boston in June, one of my favorite cities. Ya gotta do the cliche' duck tour though, best way to learn about the city and see all it has to offer in a short amount of time.

Sam Adams eh? When your there if you get to meet Jim Koch ask him if he remembers his nieces giant boyfriend from florida hahaha ;)

Avoid Legal's Seafood, big ripoff if your on a strongman diet.

Cheer's was fun!

What else, man I did a TON of stuff and I was only there for a day. Stayed in South Dartmouth...

USS Constitution is awesome too if you like that stuff.

I'll remember more...

A strongman and a Playa too, props to you Zach :mag:

(Don't let her know she's one of many, it won't end well)

1st, how long will you be in town for? The city is pretty walkable, and there's a lot of history to take in. The biggest tourist attraction around here now are the duck boats, people love these things. My wife loved it, I've been meaning to try the tour.

Good call on the Fenway tour, everyone I know who did it loved it.

Well, go the link Mike gave you but its seasonal and wont be open until Mar 28th according to the site. Like he said it is walkable and you will have plenty of time to do things it sounds like. Make sure you get a 'tourist' map that shows you where all the good stuff is. There is a cool aquarium there too I enjoyed.

Lemme muster up some pics!

I was gonna put more pictures but it is very limited on how many you can put and I am not sittin here all night uploading them.

Boston is a killer city and the architectural design of every building is very unique. I was happy to see how Boston took pride in having a 'clean' city.

If I ever have the money again I will definitly go back.

Your gonna have fun dude!

I enjoyed seeing the Constitution (the ship, not the document) and the historical sites (including Lexington, but that might be a bit of a stretch on public transportation) but then again, I'm a history nerd.

Oh, and if you like seafood, Boston's tough to beat. (Not impossible - I'd take Maine for the ubiquitous lobsters - but tough.)

thanks for those pictures! If you have time to post more, it would be cool.

I'm a history nerd as well. I went to Mass. a few years ago w/ my family, and saw New Bedford, Salem and a few other cities. We couldn't go to boston b/c of the big dig during that time, and also the democratic national convention. Salem was kind of commercial, but i enjoyed seeing the house of seven gables. New Bedford was cool.

I'm seriously considering seeing if we could put off the trip will may or around there, so we could get a chance to see fenway, and the duck tour. It seems a lot of stuff is closed now. Plus, the weather would be better.

But, i'm pretty excited for going, so we may just go in march. haha.

Everyone knows you need to eat some CLAM CHOWDER. (Misplaced Bostonian in Washington.) March will be cold so Im not so sure about the duck tour.

The aquarium is all right... Catherine and I have gone a few times during the past few summers....The aquarium also has the Omni Theatre right next door if the weather is bad. Also right next door to the aquarium is all of the boat tours of Boston etc... I honestly forget when you said you were coming but theres they have a few options with the boat tours. They just added the Codzilla this past year, which i was kind of excited about because I scene one of these boats when i went to hawaii and didnt get the chance to go on. Basically the codzilla is a speed boat that holds up to 40 passengers. It does crazy turns at high speeds .... really fun.... Then you have the whale watches, sunset cruises etc..... You can also take a Ferry to capecod for the day (which is alot better than driving!)

I went to a Celtics game on my birthday this past december and It was great. Alot different exoerience now that they are good. Its a good time and the prices are pretty good for tix. I never went on the actual tour of fenway but ive been to plenty of redsox games, very nice ball park. I know they are doing construction to it right now but i think they still do the tours.

Fanuel hall is a great place to spend an afternoon. Plenty of food, usually entertainment of some sorts(streetperformers) , they have a bunch of bars, comedy club. Its good because its a 5-10 minute walk from the aquarium and about 15 minute walk to the Boston Commons.

You can also check out the top of the prudential building. They have an observatory (sp?) up there that only a few bucks. You can basically see everything in Boston from up there. They also have a mall on the bottom floor. I also think Newbury St is a 5 minute walk from there... Newbury st is like the fancy stores and high end stuff.... guess some celebrities go there occasionally but I dont relly care bout that. Few good placs to eat in the area too.

You can also go checkout hardvard square.... definitly one of the more interesting places to visit. They have alot of diffeent stuff to do. Theres also a pretty cool place to eat over there called "fire and ice" and the chiles isnt that bad either. They also have this little old funky theatres over there and every saturday night at midnight they play the Rock Horror picture show. While they play the movies, a bunch of drag queens act it out on stage. I got dragged there by a group of some of my crazier friends a few years back. It was actually on Valentines day and they took me there after i went out with my fiance'e. Valentines day is considered "sexy underwear night" or something... definitly not the most comfortable experience but pretty funny to think back too.

Places to train... Art Mcdermotts gym 180 sports in Andover probaly one of the best facilities around the USA. Total Performance Sports in Everett where I and a few other board members go. Its a really good place and probaly the easiest to get to by public transportation. (pm me if you need directions) and theres a few others tht are a little ways away.

I could probaly go on forever..... but i need to stop here good luck and pm me if you have any questions.....

For Italian food... walk the North End (also Paul Revere's house & Old North Church are there)

If you are into museums... Harvard has several, the Fine Arts Museum is world class.

I don't care what Paul said... :EB: Legal Seafood has the BEST clam chowder in town.

Chinatown is small but loaded with great restaurants and oddball stores...

For a very nice dinner with a killer view, but expect to pay top dollar, Top of the Hub in the Prudential Tower is great. Highly reccommened if you want to impress a date. The building also has an Observatory and shopping center and it is attached to the stores at Copley Square (on the upscale/pricey side)

Beacon Hill is a very quint, well preserved (and EXPENSIVE place to live) colonial era part of town worth a stroll (The State House is there too).

Back Bay is a beautiful Victorian neighborhood. Newberry Street is the 'hip' (read trendy and expensive) place to shop and eat in Boston. You can find reasonable food though. The people watching is great on a nice day.

Most of the tours will drop you off in these neighborhoods and pick you back.

Great replies, I agree, aquarium, museum of science, shops at Quincy Market, etc, etc...

I'd bring a good map, I get lost pretty easily in Boston, it can be confusing..

Bring alot of money, as it is expensive...And dress warm.

One of the best places to stay IMO is the HYATT in cambridge, literally across from Fenway, reasonably priced EXCEPT parking..

You have John Sullivan's gym in Waltham I think, 180 where Mike Z and a few others go, and TPS where I think Brandon Smith and Pelosi?? go?? Many close options...

Id say in the summer Boston is one of the best cities all around in the US, hands down..clean but expensive..On that note I have to admit I hate the Red Sox, but am a Patriots fan :)

Have an awesome trip, im sure it will be great

thanks guys! Lots of good ideas.

we're changing the trip from march to may. She just bought some red sox tickets today, so we're going to go to the gym on may 19th. I told her a lot of stuff was closed around march, so we decided may would be better.

We're thinking of driving up to boston now, instead of flying (although, flying is REALLY cheap like 199 round trip taxes included). It will enable us to stay outside of boston for cheaper hotels.

does anyone know of hotels outside of boston that offer shuttles into boston? My parents said that there are train stops all along Mass for commuters into boston. So, would it be pretty easy to get to boston if we stayed in another town, without driving? Last time we went to Mass. we stayed an hour or so away from new bedford, salem, etc, and would just drive there.
