Hi, my name is Simon De Vogelaere, a novice strongman from Belgium. I made an account on this board since it houses some great strongmen and other lifters. I hope to learn alot and succede in my goal to become a succesfull strongman one day.
I've been training since octobre, about 13 sessions of event training with Jimmy Laureys ( Belgium's strongest man ). My first competition is coming up next week, april 6th so wish me the best :D

Thanks everyone !
The competition i'm participating in consists of 5 events because of the high number of competitors ( 25?! ). It used to have a 320kg yoke but they cut the event because of the time it would take.
Sterkste Man van Limburg

Baptism by fire is an excellent way to look at it.

Yep it's great really, i get to do my first comp with serious competitors ( not some novices ) which i can learn from so that's great.
Should i do some carb loading in advance to the competition or something? I haven't spoken about it with my trainer but i will sunday, any advice tho ?
P.S.: Squatted 200kg/440lbs yesterday for a single, new personal best :D Also did 5 x 170kg so that's a new 5RM and did a zercher lift from kneeheight with 200kg also. Sweetness :D

Congratulations on the personal bests. It's always nice to hit those right before a contest. The show looks like it's gonna be a good one, definitely some amazing competitors. Again, good luck. You'll have to let us know how it goes!

Competition report:
06/04/08 1st strongman comp: Sterkste man van Limburg 2008
Drove 200km to the comp, in an escalade ( don't see that alot over here ) which was nice haha. Arrived there, the material looked professional and i was looking forward to compete.
First event: Farmer's walk
I took it easy with the 80kg and 100kg implements, 30m each went smooth, than i had a struggle with the 120kg ones, managed 22m with them, didn't finish because i ran out of time.
Logpress, 1st time on a thick log ( IFSA specs ), cleaning the log was easy as hell, press a bit uncomfortable because I had to lean backwards more than normal. Managed 100kg on 2nd lift, failed 110kg at lockout.
Third event: Medley
300kg sled, 160kg duckwalk and a 120kg minecart axle to be moved 15m each. Sled was easy as hell, duckwalk went ok but the axle was pretty annoying because of the only place to grip it proper was the wheels which spinned héhé. Managed to finish it in 1m01 at a 2m time limit.
Inch dumbell press ( 50kg )
Managed 7 reps, 8 reps actually but was one second out of the 1 minute time limit, bit gay but hey can't do much bout it.
Tire flip i miscalculated it, the tire was smooth and had almost no grip, the fact i was sweating bad and used magnesium didn't help either. Only managed 4 reps out of 6. Some competitors used tacky which wasn't allowed but it was ignored so that was a bit lame.
Managed to get 11th out of 21 competitors which is nice seeing i only wanted to place "not last" haha. My trainer won the competition ( as expected :p )
