IFSA: Going, Going . . . by Randall J. Strossen, Ph.D. | ©2008 IronMind

It’s a tangled mess that involves shipping massive amounts of IFSA Strongman equipment (http://www.ironmind.com/ironcms/morenewsv6.php?id=2344#2344) halfway around the world for the 2007 IFSA World Championships, and along with athletes who never received their prize money for competing, the freight company that moved the merchandise so the show could go on was left holding the bag, to the tune of US$63,000; and to recover at least some of the money it is owed, the shipping company is going to sell all the IFSA Strongman equipment it has in its possession.

(http://halfway%20around%20the%20world%20for%20the%202007% 20IFSA%20World%20Championships,%20and%20along%20wi th%20athletes%20who%20never%20received%20their%20p rize%20money%20for%20competing,%20the%20freight%20 company%20that%20moved%20the%20merchandise%20so%20 the%20show%20could%20go%20on%20was%20left%20holdin g%20the%20bag,%20to%20the%20tune%20of%20US$63,000; %20and%20to%20recover%20at%20least%20some%20of%20t he%20money%20it%20is%20owed,%20the%20shipping%20co mpany%20is%20going%20to%20sell%20all%20the%20IFSA% 20Strongman%20equipment%20it%20has%20in%20its%20po ssession.%3Cbr%20/%3E%0A%3Cbr%20/%3E)http://74.205.126.46/ironmind/opencms/system/galleries/ironmind/ifsasale_lg.jpg
It’s quite a change from the one-time high flyer of the strongman world, when IFSA Strongman talked of seven-figure purses and compared itself to WWE and Formula One. Now, it’s fire sale time, and even the people who once were happy to present themselves as kings and queens from the land of IFSA are quick to distance themselves from the organization whose strongman equipment is being sold for lack of payment on a shipping bill. IFSA Strongman: Going, going . . . . Photo courtesy of Al Thompson.

Al Thompson has provided the following inventory list, so that prospective buyers can review the offerings:

Logs (2): $1000 each
Deadlift (1): $2500
Metal Timberwalks (2): $1500 each if bought separately; $1250 if bought together
Stands and Stones: $4000 total (10 each); $2500 for stands; $1500 for stones; must buy all or none
Wheels (18): $200 each
Bars (9): $250 each
Shields (4?): $200 each
Super Yokes (?): $400 each
Blocks (8): $150
Platforms (3) $200 each

Thompson is involved with the sale because it was his sponsor that got burned on this deal, he said, adding that he had hoped to initiate the sale earlier, but he was hospitalized and that slowed things down.

“John Cirone can be reached at jcir1@yahoo.com to make offers,” Thompson said, referring to the man who’s firm got stiffed by IFSA. “Freight FOB origin. John will make a freight deal if enough equipment is bought.”

If anyone wants to but some equipment, now its your chance.

Sounds like a great opportuinity to get some killer implements but there asking price for used equipment is WAY, WAY HIGH! $1,000 for a log???? Are you kidding me. Stainless steel implements look very cool but after all this is used equipment. I can buy a new steel Williams 12" diameter, 5'-0" long log for around $550 bran new.

Wonder if some of it will get cheaper as time progresses?

Obviously it cost alot to ship these items, so my question is where are they currently located?

I would assume its the one in the first pic. They definately have some cool stuff, but it is expensive. Is a person could afford it, these would be great buys for anyone that puts on a show each year. Maybe a gym owner that could keep it in there gym as a conversation piece.

I've been trying to get a response from this guy for over a week now...and yet to hear from him via email or phone....

I don't understand....me and some guys went up to help uncrate and inventory the stuff about 3 weeks ago...and since then have continued to make offers on equipment...some of which were better than current prices (for him)...but still ...no response..

I just wonder if he's doing this to try and get someones attention (IFSA)...??? or is he actually serious about selling it..? Maybe we are calling his bluff but he still is waiting to see if someone comes along and buys it all..or what...

I guess only time will tell..

Sweet. im going to email that guy. I may be interested in a few things.

Check out board sponsor Pit Bull before you do. No one beats Alan's prices or his quality. I have his log and FW handles and the are very solid.

Save some money and support a board sponsor.

I bought a log from him as well...and i tell you what..."we" have beat the poo outta it...and it's still doing well...barring a little bending...("someone" likes to drop it after they lift on max attempts :BB: )

and ...his prices are off the hook...

Buying used equipment is not what would bother me, it would be the abuse those pieces have sustained. Its not like those guys are lightly putting down a 350+lb log when they are done. So you never know what those pieces will look like now.

I've also been trying to get a hold of him as I'm interested in a few pieces! The stuff has a lot of history and is very sturdy, only the wheels for the eadlift and Axle press are beat up. I really just want a few blocks, mainly the 145 kg one I set the WR on in Scotland. I was all excited when I E-mailed this guy but haven't heard crap back yet, WTF!!

Same as me Derek. I wanted to get a couple pieces as well but no response. As far as the Equipment, the IFSA stuff was the best I ever used in any contest.

Karl..and Derek...
I'm glad someone else is having issues too....

and for some of you guys regarding condition of the equipment...it's actually in very very good shape...the logs are flawless.....and beautiful....not $1000 beautiful...but maybe...$600 beautiful...LOL...

Derek is right..some pieces are a little banged up..but some of the shields still have the plastic on them as well as some of the "wheels"...they are brand new never used...
it's all very very good equipment...sturdy top notch...on the big DL apparatus the bar has some rust on it...it's not stainless....other than that...it's some good stuff...
and like Derek said...the hands that have touched that stuff...alot of history...i kept rubbing the log ...hoping that some of that Big "Z" press would rub off onto me...I just need about 40-50lbs worth of it... :D

don't know..if it's listed...but there is also the conan's wheel set up too..be great for a show...

Maaan, I could get a Pitbull log for 110 euros thanks to the €/$ rate!
Why do I live in France
By the way, how much does it weigh empty? around 80 lbs? Maybe 90?

My friend wants to start a gym with all of this equipment as a base for it.

I've been trying to get a price for all of the equipment but haven't heard back yet from him. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him, and how much he wants for the whole package, please let me know!

Derek, if he winds up getting to buy the whole package you are welcome to the pieces you want, my mother in law lives in your town and I don't want her getting arrested because my friend and I sniped some equipment from you!

yeh...the pricing is very off skew....a grand for a log...but 400 bucks for a stainless steel yoke? ...lol...as a friend of mine said..."I think I'm hearing circus music starting to play" ...

I've even had some well known guys across the "pond" inquire with me about the equipment...everyone is interested...and I've even thrown out the offer to help him organize it and sell it...but don't think that will happen

Dude, you guys are talking about this stuff like it's regular equipment. It's the equipment used in The World Championships... Think about that for a sec.

It's like you are saying you can get some practice footballs, but the price is really high because they were used in the Superbowl... This isn't just equipment to be used.. Hell in the right gym this stuff should be displayed, not used. If there was an official weight lifting hall of fame you should put this stuff in it; not in some back room gym to get abused and rusty.

that is a good point Mikey....but you have to also remember....we are strongmen....most of which...don't have alot of cash and spend it wisely...to pay $1000 for a piece of "art" is not a bad investment...IF..it is true art and can appreciate..that being said..

$1000.00 log...will not appreciate....is it worth more than a williams strength log..definitely...but not practically twice that....

here's the point I was trying to make...
Yoke - $650
Farmers (for yoke) - $400-500
Log - $700-800
that's a bit more realistic....I'd pay a grand or so for one of those yokes that doubles as farmers tanks... :D

I totally see what you are saying...I was thinking of buying a shield just to display it in my house in my "hall of shame" with all my other hardware....

all i know is...I WANT TO BUY SOME CRAP....AND WANNA BUY IT NOW!!! :EP:

i think the problem is...he doesn't want to manage that process...that could be a full time job managing the sale of all that crap...

I think a realistic figure would be in the $15k-20k range....if you sit and list all the equip...and start attaching conservative dollar values to it...

all the logo stuff would sell as novelties...and not much real worth to it...
