all I know is everyone at the olympia had shirts bags and all kinds of promo stuff for it. which would lead me to beleive that the stuff is 1% legit and 99% marketing...

Good call fellas. Thanks for the info. I actually gain more strength through motivation than anything.

...AND if you wait for another month you would probably be able to buy a knockoff brand for half of the price. My opinion is that you would be wasting your money regardless.

The research is good( done at Florida U-98)I have read it and HDT looked at brining it out when I was still there, but the owners would not put the cash in needed to get it rolling( marketting)
.....Muscle Crap-Marketting is the key for any product and they pay tons of money out....their products are of high quality-just over priced....if they sucked then they could not maintain the market share that they have.

Gakic-bottom line-it works.....I have used it...give it a shot...I used the powder though.

Man, its obvious I don’t read the magazines or the muscle blogs anymore.

Never even heard of the stuff.

I thought the latest and greatest was creatine!

I thought the latest and greatest was creatine!

It pretty much is still. It's on the small list of supplements that actually WORKS. Most of the rest are just overhyped. There's tons of creatine "cocktails" out now that are mixed with all kinds of stuff, but I prefer the regular monohydrate and gatorade mix.

Is this stuff only available from Muscletech then?

SO far, someone else will have a cheaper version within months.

I believe they hold the patent on the active ingredient, whatever that is. I haven't tried it myself. I got a sample from the Olympia, but only one serving. I always wonder how cost effective it is to give away one serving of something based on the likelihood of actual effect from the solo test. I thought I managed to grab a handful, but they were some other crap whose ingredient list amounts to the equivalence of a pack of ketchup (seriously). Even with a big bucks company like Muscletech, the name "Gakic" (which sounds like my cat when he's gonna vom) seems like a commercial blunder whether it works or not.

From my strength discussion log:Last Friday

Muscle Tech has a new supplement called GAKIC....and it is to increase stength and power...I used it today for the first time as did my partner....placebo or whatever I hit several big PR's....I will use it again during events in the morning....and again next week when I train...its a bit early for a total endorsement, but today was promising!

axl c&press-125x8/175x5/215x3/265x3
Axl Press-305x3/340x3/365x1easy//// 385 would have been new Pr, but I could not resist the temptation of 400-missed the lockout 2x, but it felt good in the rack...went down to 360x3 for a new pr( 2 was previous best)
Hammer Dead-1200 for new pr...tried 1300 but was too blown out!
zercher axl squat- 215x5/265x5/305x5
hammer row-540x3sets of 6...felt easy
Benched with regular strait for the first time in 4 years( since my last pec strain)...warmed up and on the 3rd set strained my pec! My first set was 225x20- the most I every did at a mini camp was 32.....I felt like I was doing 135 and Ihad 20 more.

Later in the day I did a bunch of reverse hypers/arms/abs/calves and rehab pec stuff....I will hit stones-maybe? Farmers/yoke/heavy drag in the am.

Saturday-farmrs 308 turn @100-175 ft new pr with my big tanks.....then 351-66ft/sub 17
Used it on Monday's Dynamic day and again everything felt bette....I gave it to my 3 partners and they all liked it as well.
I am taking a week off( long over due) and taking the kids to Disney.....once I get back I will continue to use this and give more feedback.

It's over $3 a serving and sold out just about everywhere. Crazy stuff. I'd give it a try if it were about 1/3 the price.

Actually they didn't make up the name, it stands for glycine-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid, if that helps any :) .

Actually, EJ, that sounds better than "Gakic"!

call it quack-ick... if it's good, soon everyone will know it and the price will drop. don't buy into flashy new products. save your money and buy more food!

Yeah I second that! Food is what makes you grow. A supplement is exactly that, A SUPPLEMENT. Nothing other than an object that fills in the gap if you aren't eating like you should be to gain size in the first place. I wish I had all of the money back that I spent on supplements in my first year or training so I could buy some more beef!

This is another one of those "greatest" supplements brought to you by Muscle Tech again.

$80 for ~1 month supply is a rip-off even it did work.

I gotta tell you guys, that I understand the skepticism, but GAKIC works like nothing else I have ever tried before! I am setting PR's at every workout. It is not a stimulant, and it tastes like crap, but I am stronger and could do about 4 or 5 reps more than my previous best, on every exercise. And that was from the first workout!

Example: I had been doing 10 reps in the seated DB overhead press with 100 pound dumbbells. The first time with GAKIC- 15 reps. I hadn't done incline barbell presses for months, but my previous best for reps was 315 x 7. First time with GAKIC 315x10 and 315x6.

It basically inhibits the lactic acid and ammonia buildup in your muscles so that you can get several more reps before they shut down for the set. You do get alot more soreness though.

You can believe what you want, but I know I won't be training without it. By the way, I am not a believer in any other MuscleTech product, but this one is different.

If enough people on here say it worked for them, it might interest me enough to try. I am very skeptical to say the least though, because Muscletech is the company that brought us Acetabolan, Anotestin, Nortestin, Acetabolan 2, and a host of other garbage that plain and simple did NOT work. I was about 18 years old when this stuff came out and naive as can be, and I tried every single one of them with no noticable effect. Maybe on paper the stuff would work, but in the human body, it was useless. Muscletech's ads in all the BB mags also help them lose plenty of credibility. The premise is that the crappy routines in the mag will work if you buy enough and take enough because the guy in the pics is big, and of course he is big because of Muscletech supplements.

All that said, this board is filled with guys who know how to train, and who understand nutrition, eating, progressive overload, consistency etc......if enough people claim something is legit, I am open-minded enough to give muscletech a fair chance at redemption. I'd post up my experience with it either way, and if it proves to be no more effective than 19-nor or androplex 700, lol, I will bash it until pigs can fly.

for some reason i never try any free products they give out. I got a sample of gakic capsules...

but looking at the ingredients...i don't want to touch it...same thing with this CREA - Protein thing i got...it has aspartame in it...which i won't touch.

i'll however ...trust the companies' clothing line and dvds that they give out for free

Mike,

What are the ingredients?

Mr_T

lol What's your beef with aspartame? It's in most protein powders unless you get the Optimum Nutrition "Natural" 100% Whey Protein.

AaRoNSnider
10-25-2005, 10:56 PM
I try to stay away from aspartame too,but I dont worry about it too much. From what Ive been told it takes alot to do much damage.A lady at gnc once told me something like-"you may as well drink embalming fluid".I dont know though..Never really looked into it.

Mike Yuen
10-26-2005, 01:42 PM
i use optimum nutrition 100% whey...i don't think there is aspartame in it...at least i don't remember seeing any the last time i checked..i might check again

Corey Schaich
10-26-2005, 04:11 PM
I find that most of the personnel that work at GNC'S are less than knowledgeable. Most of them fail to educate themselves and rely on ads and what ever their company is trying to push that month. It is all about sales to them. I have never heard of an aspartame over dose. Even though it does convert to methanol in the blood low doses are most likely insignificant. If products were sold with toxic amounts that would be the end of the product. Hence the end of that business. Optimum is s good product but you should be focusing on getting most of your nutrition through whole proteins and whole food sources.
Muscle milk is an awesone one and has an awesome taste. I have seen it for as little as 16$ on the net. I have tried almost everything at one time or another

Josh Kamins
10-26-2005, 04:27 PM
IF you eat bags of aspartame a day it might be dangerous. The research showing it gave cancer was all based on mice/rat research that gave them tons based on their bodyweight.

I have the powdered Gakic( its tasts like battery acid).....I have given it to all my training partners and it is working great for everyone....PR's falling every session.
2 guys training for Nats-yesterday smoke the log and dead.LW/Rob-10 on the log with 230-previous best was 8...dead-555x5....before that 3...Adrian- 280 logx5...before 3////dead-625x2.......605x1 before

ME-Band Suspended axle press-171x8/261x5/311x3/361x2/401x1/421x1 new PR.....441X1 Felt better than 421.....loaded 461, but decided to leave it.....for me I have dropped all the extra session since 8-20.......next week I turn 37 and Will add the extra stuff back in and continue to use the product.

My take here is if you have extra money this is worth a look....hey I remember when creatine first came out and was $40 for 100grams........so eventually this will get cheaper....if you don't have much cash-go with a protein and lots of food!

lol What's your beef with aspartame? It's in most protein powders unless you get the Optimum Nutrition "Natural" 100% Whey Protein.

Sucralose is much more common in most protein powders these days... and has been for about 3-4 years now (a couple years ahead of the curve on spenda). I don't think I have ever seen Nutrasweet/aspartame in a protein powder...

Im a little late on this :)

But when I was trying to be sold this crap at GNC I looked at the back, and there is nothing special about it. I even tried to debate the guy behind the counter and all he could rebuttle with was "I dont know, it worked for me".

There is nothing in it but sugar, and some arganine... its like a proprietary blend where they dont tell you the amount of anyhting in it. And if you honestly believe its working for you.. then it is. Its called placebo effect, maybe you've heard of it? Its pretty powerful

Jacob Sauter

Here we go.. :)

GAKIC = Glucine-l-aginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid calcium.

OTHER INGREDIENTS: Dextrose, maltodextrin, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium gluconate, polyvinylprrolidone, natural and artificial flavors (modified food starch, corn syrup solids, gum acacia, silicon dioxide), acesulfame-potassium, sucralose, fd&c red no. 40.

Look at all that sugar! Why not drink some sugar water before you go to the gym? Or maybe some hummingbird juice? hahaha Notice its the first two ingredients? That means that most of it is composed of it.

As far as the proprietary blend is concerned.. the only thing I know in that(and could find research about) is the L-arginine and calcium.. both of which can be cheaply supplemented.

I've tried and and LUV it!! It's too freakin expensive!!!! I can't justify the cost with the outcome. It does work, but way too expensive!

Buford B., et al (2004).Glycine-Arginine Ketoisocapoic Acid Improves Performance of Repeated Cycle Sprints. Med Sci S ports Exer. 36(4):583

Stevens B., et al (2000). High Intensity Dynamic Human Muscle Performance by Metabolic Intervention. Med Sci S ports Exer32(12)2102.

As far as the sugar goes.....the raw material tastes like shit...okay the powder doesn't tatse much better, but when did any of us care about 14grams( half a medium banana) of sugar or the taste?

Okay here are a few studies done on Glycine-Arginine Ketoisocapoic Acid( the active ingredient)......there is more work from the late 90's.A large majority of the research has been done at the University of Florida. So go read....Florida sold the rights to commercially sell this to Muscle Tech so I doubt that a cheap knock off will come soon. All supplement companies are "marketting"companies....how many great companies with legit products have gone out of business because they could not afford to advertise? You guys educate yourselves, but the average customer wants to read an add and then run in and buy a product because of the hype......there are few product that live up to the hype, but this is one that works........wait til it comes out at a reduced cost on Bodybuilding.com then split it with a training partner.

Depending on how often you train this stuff could last a longtime.....I would only use it during your heavy sessions( I have 2 heavy-maybe 3 a week) It took me 5 weeks to cut through the first jug.....and a Pr ever session for the last 7 weeks tells me something.....I have 2 main training partners and they both use the product(the club buys whatever products we need with club dues, along with chalk,tacky,h2o, gatorade) and they have both set Pr's every week.......I will expand it out into a few more guys and see how they are doing with it?
