I've got a fun question for everyone. The other night I had 2 16-18oz steaks for dinner at work. It was the last day they were good so it had to be done. It made me think back to a 36oz porterhouse I got at a steak house in Palm Springs. The only other big steak I've ever been able to order was in Seattle at FX Mcrories(sp?) I think it was only 28oz. I know America is the land of big things (economy, buildings, steaks) so I'm wondering what is the biggest steak you've either seen or ordered on a menu. Also did you manage to finish it or meekly ask for a doggie bag at the end of the meal. I know we've got some guys from Texas on this board, I've heard legends of 72oz steaks coming out of that state.

The biggest I have seen is a 48 oz. Porterhouse at Morton's. One time we were there, our waitress told us a guy was coming in that night who had called ahead and ordered two. Apparently he was a regular and had no trouble finishing both. We did not stick around to watch. The biggest I have ever eaten is probably only a modest 24 oz. or so.

Well, the biggest single steak I have ever ordered was 40oz. It was 'supposed' to be a NY strip, but it looked and tasted like a grizzly peice of shoe leather. I honestly couldn't eat the thing it was so bad.
Another time I was out to eat and the restaurant had a special two 12oz filet mingons. I ate both of mine, one of my sister's and one of my mom's (they couldn't finish, and I have always been their human doggie bag). So that's 48oz in the form of four steaks ......for me it all depends on the cut. I can eat filet all day every day, it is lean and goes down so easy.

The most I have ever ate of meat would be 1.3 lbs. of ground beef, for steak, I have had maybe 18 oz. at the most.

There's a restaurant here in WI called the Black Otter, and they have a 96 oz prime rib. If you can eat the whole thing without leaving the table, it's free!

Now thats the kind of thing I'm talking about. I've heard of 'eat it all and its free' but your the first person to actually name a restaurant.

Dan that must have been in pre 'Dan the Man' days. I bet you'd finish all 55 now.

No doubt. The BIG difference would be the hunger pains Dan the Man would have 2 hrs later now versus then at age 18 when I ate that beast, Dan the Sissy was sick for a day afterwards.

The Big Texan, in Texas is another place like that. I don't remember what city it's in...prob Dallas, but it's a 72oz steak and you get it free if you can finish it.

I have eaten 2 32oz prime ribs from Sam Seltzer's Steakhouse... plus salad w/blue cheese dressing. I have also eaten a single london broil that weighed in around 2 pounds.
A friend of mine a few years ago got ahold of resturant "back alley" deal and came back with 3 whole frozen tenderloins just for me. I ate one of them (about 72oz total IIRC) for lunch and dinner, so about 36oz per meal give or take... I also delighted in the fact that I was able to cook and eat my very first 5" thick filet mignon, which I had to butterfly to get to cook evenly.
My last big gluttony story, when I was a about 16-18 years old, there was this greasyspoon diner-type resturant in Weaverville, NC, called "Grannys". They had the "Bubba Burger Challenge", which cost about 20 bucks or so... it was a 2lb burger on 8 slices of texas toast (4 on top/4 on bottom) with all the fixins, a full boat-basket of fries, and a large drink. If you could eat it in 1 hour, you would win $50 bucks. They stopped doing that the 3rd time I won. To be fair, I lost the challenge the first two times I tried it.

kobiyashi can probably eat like a 108oz steak. I watched a special on american food eating champions and they show guys eating outrageous amounts of steak and how they are dominators in America for food eating. These guys are all like 300+, then they goto Coney island and face some 130lbs japanese guy and he OWNS them i believe he ate like twice the amount of hotdogs. And then some 105lbs girl even out-ate them, hahahaha
The most steak I ever ate was like 3.5 8-12 oz prime ribs. It was at an all you can eat steak house in Monterey Park, CA. It's called Monterey Hill Restaurant for those familiar with the area. It is where the 710 and 10 freeways meet. They have really good prime rib and if you go there at sunset on sundays (IIRC) then you can get never ending prime rib for 19.99. (comes with bread and salad as well) They aren't picky about giving you another one either. After I was done with my third one the guy came out and offered me a fourth, so i couldnt decline. The meat is delicious(way better than BlackAngus), however, I did not eat the fat around it, so I am unsure of exactly how many oz. I ate. Im not that big of an eater though.

Hey Matt, check out the Knight & Day restaurant in Maple Ridge. They have a prime rib buffet there on Fridays, I think. They also have huge beef ribs, which were really good (I had 15, each the size of my forearm). Next year, after the Port Moody show, I'm going there.
I should note, that after the 15 beef ribs, 20 wings, and several servings of desert, I ended up actually puking because my body couldn't handle the amount of food in it. Just be careful is all I'm saying. :)
