bench press contest

I want to do a contest at the local ymca. Has anyone ever did one or setup one? I was thinking it would go like this,
Most reps by wt class. I hate typing on my phobe. Help me please folks.

I ran a bench press contest last year at a ymca. Usually, have different weight classes/divisions. each person gets 3 lifts, highest bench wins for each division. All of the ones I have been a part of also have a additional trophy for the person who benches the most weight over their bodyweight.


Be careful when you plan it. Last year, i had mine on June 30th and alot of ppl couldnt show because they were going away or they had already arranged vacation time for the 4th of July.. However, ive helped put on other ones that were very successful at better times.

Just make sure you put on a good show and you will have a bigger and better show every year. Make up shirts, sponsors, trophy's etc....

Matt is right on. Make sure about your date and that you run an efficient meet.

I put on full power meets every year and it takes alot of planning. If you can get aligned with some federation, that may help, as alot of pl'ers like to be able to set records.

Definitely have plenty of help(spotters, loaders, judges, etc.) Get your scorecards, flight sheets, etc. printed out ahead of time. Everything you can have done in advance will make things run that much smoother the day of the meet.
