Today, feeling REALLY sore from doing DB romanian's on Friday (all the racks were being used at my gym (what a freak'in surprise I know!!!) but I did them. Yesterday I had coached the special olympics powerlifting team in Calgary (which I've done for the last three years). The S.O. had their event in conjunction with the CPA? Canadians. I was at the event for 13 hours and barely ate throughout the day.
To make a long story longer, I'll get to my point. Today I decided that I wasn't going to let my still sore hams get in the way of (hopefully) a decent leg workout. I hit the gym and started with 135. Low bar, wide stance. Banged out 10 reps. Hips n' i.t. band felt like garbage. 135 again for 10 reps. Body felt a bit better. Then on to 225. A few reps. Body felt okay. Then 275 for 3 reps. Still the same. I said screw it and decided to do low bar and narrow stance. 275 again for 3 reps. Much better. 315 for 3 reps. Felt good. Belt on for this one and 365 for 3 reps. Body still feeling good.
405 for an easy double. I'm feeling pretty good at this point so I deide to go with 455. Cranked out a good double. Very pleased. So I say screw it and put on an even 500 (w/collars). Pulled out the knee wraps for this one.
Got my wife to spot me (the whole 120lbs of her) and managed to crank out 6 reps. I was really pleased.
The great thing about today's squatting session was I finally have no worries, fear or intimidation about squatting 5 wheels anymore. I mean, I used to be that way years ago when I was first doing 5 plate deads, then 6. Even though I've squatted 6 plates for a double, I would still get a little anxious when going under 5.....I'm happy to hit 5 without worrying anymore and will be pounding out a lot more reps with it from now on.

Sorry for the worthless rant but I just wanted to share it with fellow iron workers.

Congratulations man. Mental barriers can be huge, and knowing you beat one can mean a lot.

Atta boy Dennis, sounds good buddy.

On another note, there were 4-5 guys from the gym here in Saskatoon at that powerlifting meeting in Calgary on Saturday... sounds like they all did really well although they didn't finish lifting until Midnight!!

Thanks for the words of confidence fellas. It just feels good to be over that stupid mental block.

Stu, Randy told me you were doing awesome at the comp until you hit the keg....what the heck happened?

I was doing ok in the comp I guess for not training much beforehand.

Came to the OHP Medley with a 200 keg, 240 keg, 265 axle, 275 11" log and a 300 13" log and things took a bit of a downturn - to say the least!! :EP:

Myself and the promoter wanted to have the implements on the ground or just on tires or something, but since I wasn't there to help load the equipment and setup, the event ended up having the implements on very narrow individual 3" raised platforms. I cleaned and pressed the first keg in one motion, then cleaned the 2nd keg and as I adjusted to get it into the crook in my shoulder a bit better the keg leaned to my right side. I took a step out and back with my right leg to brace myself and hit the edge of the platform with my foot. My ankle rolled out and my knee rolled in and all anyone could hear was a "pop" from my knee and me hitting the ground in pain yelling. My knee is the size of a volleyball if/when I take the compression sleeve off, and is turning a really nice shade of purple/blue. I can't hardly walk, and there's no way I can walk without the knee sleeve giving me some support.

Its still too swollen for a doctor to even look at it - but I have an orthopedic surgeon appointment on Friday to discuss the torn mensicii in both of my knees, so it'll be a good opportunity to have him look at this new injury.

Needless to say, I'm broken. lol
