Neil Neil Neil... You underestimate big Van! I think Zudrunis will be the one to beat again. Van will do well too I think.

I think you guys are really underestimating BIG Glenn Ross. Yes he has alot of body fat and that slows him down in competitions that have alot of movement involved but the Arnold is all about brute strength with very little movement. I think Glenn could take the title if he plays his cards right. His deadlift is huge and the guy can squat a house, he is also very good at overhead lifts as well so I look for him to do well on the Appolon's Wheels and the Thomas Inch Dumbell Replica press. Don't count Big Glenn out, he just may surprise a lot of people.

I agree, I think the Arnold Classic is perfectly set up for a guy like Glenn Ross, Very little moving around and a lot of pure power movements. I also think Zadrunas will win.

My guesses for the Arnold Classic always end up being wrong.Savickas has really proved himself there, but we'll see if he can pull off another win. There doesnt seem to be many contests that are set up like the Arnold strongman contest,so its hard for me to say who might be on top.
Do any of you from the board plan on going?

I have no Idea who will win, but it should be a great contest.

Svend really wants to win this and he's had plenty of time to prepare and he has a bunch of experience so I'm tipping him for first. Last chance though I reckon.
Glenn fancies his chances in this. His static strength is sick, he totalled 2200lbs raw (no suits, no belt) in an IPF comp last year and has done 2453lb in training. That's probably even higher now. I think it's going to be real close and he'll probably win the deadlift. The trouble is his power is just raw, I think the weight on the axle will be absolutely no problem for him but when you're against Svend and Zydrunas the reps are gonna be a problem, I think he'll get tired.
My guess is
1. Svend
2. Zydrunas
3. Hugo, Glenn or Vasyl

That big hammer lift thingamabobby.
I believe the correct term is either "doo-a-mahickey" or "whatchamacaller", not 'thingamabobby'.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Hugo Will Win The Arnold...if He Is Healthy... Svend Is 2nd If He Is Healthy Too...savicks And Virastyuk Will Batlle For 3rd And 4th And I Think Big Glenn Will Suprise..and I Think The Guy Who Will Make People Go Wow Is Siders.. I Didn't Know Much About Him But His Lift Are Freaky Strict And Easy (check Out His 975 Squat At The Mountaineer Cup..wow!!) But Huge-o Will Win.. Hands Down!!!

Huge-O will win Apollon Axle-Inch DB Press-Hammer Lift
I can honestly see Huge-O for sure winning those three events
Glen Ross may be one of the top placings in deadlift but he will finish near last in the other events
I think Savickas and Karlsen top two overall again realistically because Huge-O can't really deadlift much or throw well to be honest
1 Savickas
2 Karlsen
3 Huge-O

My guess:
1. Savickas
2. Virastyuk
3. Siders
4. Hugo
5. Glenn
6. Svend
.
.
.
That will be realy STRONGMAN contest for guys with height and strength. No time events.
Glenn will be good in Hummer Deadlift (he sended me SMS that he pulled 924), but he will be no god in Medicine Ball Throw.
Brian Siders is extremely strong and in good shape. He will be discovery.
Savickas and Virastyuk are also heavy events funs and it was mether of time when they will beat Pudzian on IFSA series.

I think the apollon's axle should be pretty close this year. Svend would have rocked that thing last year had he not been injured, Schoonie just set a new record if i am not mistaken, and repped it. Hugo is the sh** in the overhead presses, and Zydrunas, well thats about all i need to say.
I'll be there. I think it's gonna be awesome. go Schoonie!

I didnt know Schoonie was competing at Arnold-o.k. then Schoonie will win Apollon Axle I suppose with Huge-O next up

Jamie,
when you come over we will get together and train! so just let me know ok.
neil campbell

Schoonie is a pressing machine, that's it.He will not be able to clean axle after 4 reps or so,look for the top guys to get 7 reps this year.Sorry Jesse,I don't know much about Van but I know the veterans of IFSA are almost impossible to touch when they have this much time to rest and train.(hugo,svend,vasyl,savickas,samuelson).Glenn Ross is brutally strong but you do need cardio to press the axle for reps and he cannot move well(farmers, hammer, ball toss). He will not be a factor.

Glen Ross doesnt have much of a grip either and thats what the Apollons and Inch DB are all about-hewill do poor
James Smith
02-25-2005, 03:05 PM
Cleaning the Inch with two hands does not take much of a grip and neither does lifting 366lbs on a 2" axle. Grip is not really a factor in these events unless you have a very weak one.

3. Van

It is obvious that many of you haven't seen Van Hatfield compete. He is very strong and has held his own among many of the best international strongmen out there. Watch him, because he will finish very high. His static strength is up there with the best. I also expect Savickas to do well. I am not sold on Hugo. He does well occasionally but often doesn't perform up to expectations in the big contests. Either way, I am sure it will be a great one!

I am surprised no one has Van in the Top 5.......None of you guys must have been at this years Nationals - or at the Pro/Am in May.....
Van is a force plan and simple - everything at Nationals looked easy.....very easy. In the 4 log medely not only was he the fastest to do all 4 but he did the 4th log for a double and both looked easy! His squat and dead-lift is sick! Put it this way in May (when he was still an Am) he out squatted Gillingham by like 6 reps (he won the event) and Gillingham is a very good squatter. if you take the Conan's Wheel out of May he would have won by a pretty good margin.
I've got to go with Goeff on the picks.....Van in the top 3 for sure!
Mike

Agreed! Hugo's gonna do it this year.

The only reason I put Savickas ahead of Van is because surely he has a formula for success in place by now which will make him tough against Van's inexperience. This is Hugo's show to lose though.
