Hi all, my name is Rich Addonizio and this is my first post. I've been skimming through for a while now, but this is my 1st post. I'm pretty new to strongman, I've been training since April 2008 and I've competed once so far. I've injured my left biceps and I'm looking for a good doc to examine it. I live in southern NH, so Nashua area or possibly Boston, if need be.
Anyone have a good reference?
Thanks,
Rich

Rich, I don't have any referrences for you, but if you don't mind telling, how did you injure your biceps? Was it tire flips by any chance?
Good luck.

Victor,
I don't have a specific moment, no- "pop, oh oh". I am of the opinion that if it's torn, it's only partially torn. I think it started, not with tires actually, but from doing hang cleans prior to my first contest. I had never been taught the proper form before I started doing them and I've come to learn that I was using WAY too much arm to get the bar moving. Since hang cleans are done explosively, I think that's what started it. Tire training may have added to the damage.
I tried laying off any moves which use biceps as an assistance mover for 2-3 weeks, but that didn't fix things. I can still do stones and deadlift, farmers and log presses. I have avoided tires completely since June because I have learned how easy it is to tear a biceps doing them.
I hope this gives you enough insight into my predicament.

Since your in NH, contact Dana Clipper on this forum, he's in Maine, and I'm sorry to say, he just went through a bicep tear, and the following surgery. Good luck and heal up!

I did my left one in june doing a tire. But as far as yours goes, i am not sure what, if any, thing they would do. Just rehab.
I have some pain in my right one. I have had it for 6-8 months. They were kinda like "till it goes we cant do much". So I am giving it some light use while my left one heals. But that is tuff for me. But go and see what they can do.
I can give you the name of the dr. that did mine. But you would have to come to maine to see him.

Dana,
I was the real tall novice standing right behind you when you tore yours during warm- ups. Thanks to you, I was regaled with loads of torn biceps stories from the more experienced guys all day! I'm glad to hear you're on the mend.
Going to Maine is kind impractical. Boston is much closer, if I have to go out of state. I really hope it's just a strain, I don't look forward to "waiting until it goes". It's starting to affect my overhead pressing. When my arm is tight and flexed at the bottom of a o.h. press, it shoots a powerful pain through the left biceps. It feels like the inside of my elbow is on fire. I can tough out that one spot and then the rest of the press if fine.
Oh, the woes of the heavy game....
Thanks.
