Wayne,
Nice squattin' for a guy coming back from injury. Do you train with any of the MN Strongmen? What weight class are you in?

Wayne Meyer
11-12-2005, 11:09 PM
Paul, yes I sure do, I think I have trained with just about every Strongman competitor in Minnesota. I am about 290lbs. which is obviously WHY. Thanks for the complements on the Squats.

After doing heavy Squats my Stiff Legged Dead's are patheticly low. I'm trying to increae my conditioning so I'm not so taxed after lifts. The Squats were as low as possible, ass nearly touching the floor.

Wayne,
Do you train with Jeff Peterson? I hear he's packed on a lot of weight since summer, shootin' for his HW Pro card. Last time I saw him, he was still in the 231s.

Wayne Meyer
11-16-2005, 10:19 PM
Paul,
Yes I have trained with Jeff several different times, but not recently. I understand at nationals he weighed in at 255lbs. And yes I understand he's wanting to get a Pro card as a HWY.

I am the promoter for a upcoming contest in Ramsey, MN. that will soon be posted on NASS website. I am assuming Jeff will most likely be competing as a MWY. You coming out to compete, it's February 18th, 2006? There will be some purse money at stake.

Fill me in on the details.......
Weight classes
Events w/ weights and distances
Entry fee
Prizes

My advice would be to post it on the "Contest Announcements and Results" page, so other guys can see it and maybe sign up.

Then' I'll have to see if I can convince my wife to fit it in my "contest budget". Yeah, yeah....don't laugh!!! She'd be pissed if I'm travelling all over the country doing contests all year, and then I tell her we can't afford OUR vacation!! I already have 2 contests lined up in the spring. I'll see if I can convince a couple other guys into competing, so we could just car-pool out there.

I just looked up Ramsey MN on Mapquest, and it gave me 2 Ramseys. One is at the south end of the state, straight west of LaCrosse WI. The other is NW of the twin cities.

Paul,
The contest will be posted soon. It will be (3) weight classes.
LWY 215lbs. and below
MWY 216lbs-265lbs
HWY 265lbs. and above

Not sure on the purse yet, as that will be determined by sponsor participation. Last year it was $250.00 per division champion, hopeing to increase that this year.

And people wonder why I dont get married (lol - just razzing ya bro).

It will be (3) weight classes.
LWY 215lbs. and below
MWY 216lbs-265lbs
HWY 265lbs. and above

Will this be NAS sanctioned? Just wondering how you came up with those weight classes.

Wayne Meyer
11-18-2005, 10:28 AM
Yes it will be NAS sanctioned. My rational behind those weights is there have been in the past a number of competitors in the 190-210lbs. range that had asked for a true light weight division so I took the 200lbs division and the 231lbs division and split them down the middle.

Events are:
Log Press for reps
Max Dead Lift
Frame Carry
Keg Load

Look at N.A.S. website for further information soon.

Just wanted to ask some questions about your contest in Feb. What size log will you be using? What will the frame carry be made of railroad ties, how high off the ground is the grip?

Thanks,
Jesse Jobe

Wayne Meyer
11-29-2005, 01:11 AM
Jesse,
Very good questions. The log is 13" diameter. The frame is actually made out of 2" square steel with the grips at appromimately 18" from the ground and the grip width 27" apart and 1 1/4" in diameter. You thinking about competing? I dont think I have met you before, what weight class do you compete in? Where do you live?

Thanks

I am considering it will have to see how the money situation is and the weather. I live down in council bluffs, IA. I have only competed in 1 other contest that was the heartland Joe Secord meet. Thanks for the info will have to see if I can rigg something up for the frame carry to see what it feels like. I compete in the 231 but would probably loose some weight to get to the lightweights.

Hey Jesse,
(sorry for the hijack)
We have a frame and farmer's here. If you have FWs, just train that for the frame. Pound for pound, the frame is easier because it's more stable as it's one piece of equipment instead of two. It's also easier because your arms stay out to your sides. The FW pulls your arms tight to your sides, applying more pressure to your body and your lungs, making it harder to breathe.

Most people can go heavier on a frame than FW. My advice would be to train FW with the same weight that the frame will be. Then, the frame will feel easy.

Again, sorry for the hijack. Just trying to help.

Squats: (Viking Press aparatus)
250 x 10
350 x 5
450 x 5
550 x 5
650 x 5
I started doing these in the Viking Press aparatus for the first time in some time. One advantage of doing them in there is the weight is balanced. The last set felt really heavy but I managed to get (5) deep low reps. I will be adding video footage of this lift once I am repping weight in the mid 700's. I need to be careful not to round my back while doing these. Next week add weight.

Stiff Legged Dead Lift:
135 x 10
225 x 5
225 x 5
225 x 5
This is a lift where I have much room for improvement. However I normally would be using much more weight but after doing squats with the kind of weight I'm using I dont have a lot left in the gas tank. Next week add weight.

Finally figured it out...
I understand that not only do you have muscles, but you are pretty smart too. Can you answer this? Why did the CHICKEN cross the road?

Wayne Meyer
12-01-2005, 05:39 PM
Well why else would a chicken cross the road....To fornicate on the other side of course.

Shannon
12-02-2005, 06:20 AM
Is that a fact? Well, answer this Einstein...Which came first, the CHICKEN or the egg?

Wayne Meyer
12-02-2005, 06:32 AM
Well upon careful pondification of this question one cann'ot help but to conclude the Chicken definitely came first. The chicken produces the egg, hench the circle of life begins. :marv:

Well, I actually have a question pertaining to what you do. Tell me, you train for competitions, but you post everything that you do in your training. So, all of your competitors now know what you are capable of lifting. Like other sports isn't the element of surprise part of a strategy? Or is posting your weights part of a psychological element to this?

Wayne-

Been following your journal. It looks like your back is hanging in there. Your doing some nice lifts for having such a bad problem...

Wayne Meyer
12-07-2005, 04:14 AM
Thanks Jay, I have had some strained lower back muscles and I have been to all of the experts: (IE:) Chiropractor, Message Therapist, Acupunctuist's, and so on. The only thing that has helped is simple time off and rest. I took this past Sunday and Monday off and came back Tuesday and felt really good.

Tonight will be a real test I will be attempting the heaviest set of Squats I have tried in some time my last set is: 700lbs. x 5 reps. I have been doing Squats without knee wraps or a Squat suit. Tonight I am going to wrap the knees and wear a Dead Lift suit and see how that feels.

I do my Squats in a Viking Press aparatus so the weight is balanced. It's basically the same implement you would see on the Squat implement at the WSM.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks Jay! My pressing has been getting better and better. My back routine I tend to go fairly light and try and acheive more "volume" training in my back routine. I have a ways to go before I can catch up to you on the NGB. I'd say: "You is the Man on that lift" (lol). Thanks again Jay!

Danm Wayne, those are some really, really strong deadlifts!!

Wayne Meyer
12-26-2005, 01:53 PM
Thanks Patrick,
I should preface this however by saying that these DL are out of a Viking Press Machine. Meaning the handles are on the sides and the weight is behind me.

It is basicly the exact same thing as a car DL but obviously no car and just weight. I measured the actual weight on the hands to be appromimately 60% of the weight on the aparatus. So my last lift was 1250lbs. x 60% = 740lbs.

I changed my routine to DL every other week and it's helped me a LOT. I don't benefit from DL'ing every week, I have found it to be too taxing on my body.

Thanks for the post.

Wayne,

Do you ever find that you go stale doing the same routine week in and week out?

I know different things work for different people, but I am the polar opposite. I don't think I've had 2 weeks in a row with identical exercises now for several years.

You still planning on competing in January?

Wayne Meyer
12-27-2005, 02:41 AM
Dave,
I do find myself getting stale with the same routine to a point. I have what I call my "core" lifts which are:
- Squat
- Dead lift
- Military Press

I use a 8 to 10 week program with my core lifts and have weekly goals set to help chart my progress. I have found that if I don't chart my progress with the "core lifts" I have difficulty measuring progress.

After completing my program I will change my sets and weight and establish new weekly goals. The other lifts I do I am continuously modifying and changing.

As far as January goes I would love to compete in your contest, however I need to verify if I am going to be out of town that weekend for work or not.

Great Squating in the WSM!

Do any Minnesota boys know how Wayne is doing? The MN state chair posted on the Anvil that Wayne went to the hospital this morning....sounds like he may have sufferred a heart attack. Looks like he's going in for surgery tonight.

Would it be too much to ask for you to post it here?
I'm sure others on the forum would like to know how he's doing.
Otherwise, you could email it to me at pneuhaus@new.rr.com

Sure Paul - I just hesitate to post too much w/out Waynes explicit permission. Since there is already alot of rumor/speculation - it can't hurt to update anyone in who is interested:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wayne was admitted to one of the local hospitals yesterday for chest pains and ultimately transfered to Abbott Northwestern Hosptial this morning.

A few hours ago (about 5PM today) he underwent an angiogram and subsequently had angioplasty on two arteries. One artery was 95% blocked, the other was 80%. He also had two stents put in place.

The prognosis is good - overall the heart looked like it did not sustain damage - the doctor performing the procedures said that the ejection fraction (the hearts efficiency) was off in one area of the heart - but he expects him to recover.

Wayne will either be coming home tomorrow or Thursday (it's unclear yet for sure which day).

That's it for the moment - if there is anything else earth shattering I'll update this thread accordingly.

Sincerely,

The g/f
