What are some of the lies you have heard in the gym?
I didn't get much sleep last night.
I don't want to get too big.
Today is my light day.
I'll do abs tomorrow.
I'm not really trying to pick you up.
I used to lift ...
Its supposed to bounce off my chest like that.
I don't do squats, 'cause they're bad for the knees.
I'm just getting back into it.
I don't do legs because I don't like it when they rub together.
It's all you.
I've been sick lately.
I do circuits for the exercise.
I don't care about how strong I am, I just wanna look good.
No, I got these gains by using Creatine.
I had too much alcohol last night.
I haven't worked out in weeks.
I lifted a lot more than that last time.
I always put my weights back when I'm done!
I always clean my sweat/chalk off the equipment.
I didn't drop it - it slipped.
You don't need to lift heavy.
I just injured my ___ a couple weeks ago.
You only have to do 1 set.
I never cheat.

hahaha, i say a lot of them.
But I know that a lot of people are just saying them. Most common is the "I used to do this much"

this mornings favorite was "I used to be 230lbs shreaded but now I'm 240 and look at me 6 months later, flabby. Just couldn't seem to get into the gym."

yeah i know what you mean. A lot of times I have to stop myself and think that people may be doing partial squats as part of their workout. But then I come to realize that people at my gym only incorporate partial squats into their workouts.
Is anyone else at the gym enough to see people come hard for like 6 months and see great results, only to quit for like a year and come back looking horrible?

"I don't deadlift cuz they hurt my back"
My reply is "Well, I have a curve in my spine. What's your excuse now?"
Maybe this thread should be called "Biggest Excuses...."

I'm at at competition in Richmond, VA last month. We're taking a break between events, a ladyy and her husband approach with, " My son is 16 years old and the same size as you, i think he would like to try that...." I politely tell her how to get him involved.
After they walk away, my buddy starts laughing, "sure her son is 16 yo, 6'2", 270lbs+....."
That's gotta be the most common. Or everyone just knows alot of big peeple, lol.

I wouldn't call em an idiot, cause that's a little rude don't you think? ;) haha But it is funny to see someone from the audience grow beer muscles and saunter over to a stone and try to houst it. After failing, this is when the above line usually gets spouted. "my cousin, who is your size, I bet he could lift that..." I think audience participation should be encouraged. Have 5 people try to pull the same truck that the pro's pull solo for example.

I remember when I brought my 900# tire home and was out in my driveway flipping it. My neighbor (5' nothin' and 100 and nothin') comes over and says "That doesn't look that heavy". So, I told him to try it. He BARELY budges the tire, stands up, and says "Yeah, I could flip that but I don't wanna hurt my back".
He never tried it again!!

You have heard them all in a military gym. Today heavy incline bench 315x3 Mind you I weigh 215-200 depending on what I eat that day lol. One guy I used to be able to do that. Ya ahuh and I don't get dingle berries on my behind. Get my drift. Or here you go Squating 400 nothing big by any means. Some guy comes over, "heyman you are going to ruin your knees doing that" ATC "my reply, don't you have some curls to be doing". Yes it has been a long week and my patience is thin.

.....that squats don't irritate the knees.
Everyone I have known who did squats had some sort of knee or back problem.
Like them, but they do have disadvantages.

I don't know if this qualifies as a lie but I just love the ILS (imaginary lat syndrome) that alot of dudes on my base have. The ones who watch as I lift a big weight then explain to their girlfriend or "lifting buddies" how I am ruining my back, knees, ect. The ILS was very popular at the gym in Korea. Good times, good times.

I'm irritated by this one as well. Funny that my knees used to bother me when I did a lot of running and no squatting years ago, but when I stopped running and put everying into the squats my knees feel better at 31 than they did at 21. But hey, if the "experts" say they're bad for the knees, it must be true!

That is SOOOOO my father in law. He tried to flip this tire that I was flipping (970) and needless to say it didn't move. I did get some good massage therapy business from the event though...haaaa.
You would also be suprised that I hear people say that they have a friend about my size here too. Keep in mind that I just had to SPECIAL ORDER an XXL (a Cyprus XXL, smaller than a US XXL) t-shirt so I'd have one to wear for this weekend at the first Strongman Contest in Cyprus. By the way...I ordered shirts for the contest and most of them are size SMALL, quite a few are MEDIUM, no larges, 1 XL, and 1XXL (me, if they can find one to print on).

Running IS bad for the knees. It's just squatting can somewhat cause them to ache, just not as bad as running.
I have lightened the weight or I stopped completely and I feel new.
