Really??? I am a die hard Metallica fan, seen them several times in concert have loved all there material, even the load/re-load albums, been listening to them since 1985 or 86. But the day the never ends is the song that never ends. The first half is crap, James vocals sound like crap, is he actually trying to sing? And the mix sounds horrible. The others I have heard sound OK, but overall I am disappointed in what I have heard.
Edit: oh and I loved the new SlipKnot, very nice!!!

Ah, i'm not so sure on that, It sounds allot better than the Load and ReLoad crap, but nothing will ever beat Master of Puppets and Kill 'Em All.

Oh, it's definitely not better than MoP or Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning or ...AJfA. I meant it's better than Load, Reload, St. Anger, and I think I like it a little better than Black Album. That started the downfall :IMHO:

I dont understand why any hard core Metallica fan would expect Kill'em All or Ride the Lightning caliber music from them again..If you expect an artist to stay with the same sound for over 20 years, not age at all, and voices not to change over years and years of touring, your crazy. James couldn't produce the vocal range of Kill'em All again if his life depended on it.
This is how I see the new album, and I have been listening to the entire thing for a week now...It's Metallica, plain and simple, years of maturity as a band and years of experience as musicians. Kirk shreds across the frets like we all know and love. Yeah James' voice has changed, nothing he can do about that, its called aging, yet he still manages to keep the Metallica lyrical flow alive and strong. Rob has shown his colors and talents yet again and Lars, well, he found his bizzalls finally and doesn't sound like hes playing in a tin can like St. Anger.
I went into this album with my captain optimistic headphones on (mainly because of the St.Anger disaster) and I came out pleasantly surprised.

Maybe I did not explain myself correctly. James still has his voice, he uses it on numerous songs on the new album and even in the song the day that never ends, he changes it during the first part of the song and it just doesn't go with the music. I have always felt James has the best heavy metal voice ever.
I completely understand a band changing over 20+ years, that is what I have been telling metallica fans that knock from Black till now. I loved St. Anger, it is an excellent album with great sound and mix, the music and vocals blend very well together. It was a natural progression of their music. I thought S&M was fantastic and show cased Metallica's talent very well.
I think with this new album they tried too hard to make the fans that have said they did not like black, load, reload, st. anger, etc. happy and in doing so screwed up. Death Magnetic doesn't sound like a band maturing and aging and growing, st. Anger and S&M did.
With all that said, I have only heard 6 songs from death magnetic and the biggest thing I hear, is they don't sound like they are all playing together. It sounds like each member of the band is playing their own thing, the music just sounds disjointed.

I never was a very big Slayer fan, though I do agree their music hasn't changed much. Only so many times you can sing about satan and corruption before it gets old.
I still think they should have got rid of Tom and opted for someone with more vocal power and range. He always sounded like he was reading from a prompt, compared to the rest of the metal gods he is very monotone.

It comes out in New Zealand in maybe 2 years time. We've still got the Backstreet Boys and Creed on top of the charts.

My verdict on death magnetic is that I'll never buy, listen to, or support another Metallica album for the rest of my life.
When you sue a 14 year old fan of your music and bankrupt his parents because he had the audacity to download your music from Napster, then your drummer goes on television and calls him (the 14 year old) a f***ing d*****bag, you really need to reevaluate why you make music in the first place.
We could get into the whole ethical argument about downloading music - but from someone that has spent some time in the recording industry I can tell you that there aren't many modern musicians on a major label, that have ever made significant money on album sales, as the cost of production for the album, touring, and cost of living "loan" the band requests from the label gets paid back to the label, not the band. This is why ticket sales for arena concerts and merchandise are so expensive - it's the only real source of profit for these bands.

IMHO The BEST Band touring right now. If they cant get your adrenaline going I dunno who will.
"Stranger Than Fiction" jumpstarts every training session for me.
I'm looking for some videos to post but I'm having some 'language' issues with them...
If you like them, see if you can find Ivan's first band Motograter still in album, YouTube them.

i agree. after the napster incident, i also stopped buying metallica cd's. i had kill em all, lightning, puppets, garage days & justice on cassette tape, then re-bought them all on cd, plus black & load & garage inc. on cd. i also was given the chest with live cd's. then the napster thing happened & i haven't bought their music since.
however, about a year ago i did put those cd's on my ipod & i listen to garage days, justice, puppets & lightning from time to time, but not that often.
two things about the napster thing that had really irritated me (besides them suing their fans):
1. on the inside of garage inc, james recalls that lars had a huge metal collection so he "would stay over at his place for days at a time, making tapes of his records and sleeping on the carpet". hypocrites.
2. lars had a sketch set up on an mtv awards show at the time, where some dudes went into this guys dorm room, took his couch, computer, other stuff. the victim was saying hey where are you going with my stuff & they said, we're just sharing your stuff. the point they tried to make was an analogy to sharing music. however, while i'm no computer expert (i don't have a clue really), i didn't think that if someone downloads music from someone else that the one with the original file loses it as soon as the downloader has it.....i thought it was a copy. so in their skit, they would take the couch, but another would magically appear, ie, make a copy. sad.

in my opinion "old" metallica died with cliff burton, nothing since has that same feel to it. i listen to skeletonwitch (whos opening for danzig) and lamb of god to get pumped for a big lift. also alice in chains and job for a cowboy are some good ones to listen to get jacked...

I started listening to Metallica with the Justice album, I personally liked Jason Newsted and felt he brought a good vibe to the group.. even though you can't really hear him on Justice. The Burton albums are freaking killer though... Ride the Lightning album is my favorite of those years.
I like the new Metallica Death Magnetic album... the long songs with lots of changeups throughout is great... seems like 3 or 4 songs in one. My only critique would be that Hetfield's voice needs to be synthesized a lot... as it is now his voice is too harsh and real for the instrumentation, thus making it feel disjointed at times.

Metallica may have made thrash metal popular but SLAYER is THRASH metal along with exodus, kreator, destruction, sodom, annilator, megadeth, and the list goes on... but overall I found trash metal the best workout music.
