Ok, I plan on being a lightweight by Strongest Man on Grand. I'm at about 245 right now. My diet is already pretty clean. I plan on continuing to avoid sugar, white flour, and keep saturated fats to a minimum. I'm going to add 30-45 minutes of walking with light dumbells 4 mornings a week and swimming on Sundays. I'll keep heavy sessions in the gym with some events on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a long session of event training on Saturdays. I'll also be going in for a body fat analysis just to figure out where I should be losing fat and how much I can lose. Any other ideas, or does this look like a good plan to cut the weight by that time?

Thanks

Whens the contest and how much do you have to loose??? Are you trying to get to 232??? If so I would reccomend that you cardio that is functional to strongman... Hill sprints, running stairs... besides your heavy so you can probably use some more speed.. carbohydrate manipulation is a good way too, or maybe a water drop and early weigh in...

The contest is in June and I've got 15lbs to make 231. I have back problems, so any kind of running is out. I don't want to do anything drastic that might cause me to lose strength, so I figured cleaning up my diet and throwing in some cardio in the morning would help. I've got my FitDay journal in my signature as extra motivation.

Hey Jeff-
This might sound a little corny, but when I messed up my back and couldn't run I did some spinning and managed to lose quite a bit of weight that way. Also: indian sprints on the hand bike, stationary bike or stairmaster as. I always try to mix a little anaerobic exercise in with any aerobic exercise i do or do higher intensity aerobics for lower times in an attempt try to maintain as much of my fast(er) twitch muscle fibers as possible. I've found it to be effective training for sports like strongman and martial arts. With any exercises directed at losing weight, monitoring your heart rate is the key to effectiveness.

Like I said Saturday, just get a bottle of ephedra, an rubber suit, and a sauna. Some assembly required.

You'll be competing in the under 200s in no time.

Dude, I'm not a wrestler any more! Besides, I'll only resort to that if I've still got 5lbs to go the day before :p

I did the same thing last year. went from 242 down to 231.I had two months to do it.first i cut out all sugar, cut out most of my milk.made shakes with just water. ate a lot of raw food, salad, fruit, veggies.kept my protein high with tuna and eggs.I still ate alot, trained hard, and lost about 1 pound a week. did'nt notice any lose of strenght. I did'nt do any extra cardio, or running, but did go for about 3 mile walks after dinner about every other night. good luck

Thanks Joe! That looks similar to what I'm doing. I'm eating more protein, reducing my servings of milk and oats, and race walking with light dumbbells in the morning. It hasn't affected my strenght so far, as I made a 20lb PR in the bent over row last night. I'll weight my self this Sunday and see if I dropped a pound or two.

You could also go for walks in the woods and if you see a something, oh, say a log, drag it out. Unassisted, of course.

That would be some good cardio for you.

I did that already. It was unpleasant, but I don't think it took off 15lbs.

ditto everything callie said and then pull off the water at the end like the rest of the contributors mentioned. then pedialite and potato chips to rehydrate and you're set. i always think of my olympic lifting coach john coffee saying you shouldn't diet too much to make weight, you should manipulate your water cuz "you don't wanna lose any tissue" said in the ultimate southern drawl :P

238.5. If I break 237 next weekend it'll be the least I've weighed since I started lifting!

ECA could help.

Isn't that a stimulant? I'll stick with exercise, proper diet, and my EFA coctail. I don't even drink coffee regularly. I have green tea sometimes in the morning and that's about all the caffeine I need to get me jittery for the day.

For now I'm walking every night, at least two miles, usually with a backpack full of groceries! I'm also walking in the morning on days I don't lift. That's at a much higher intensity. I try to stay over 4 mph and I've been pumping my arms with 5lb plates in each hand. Doesn't sound like much, but it gets pretty tiring after 30 minutes straight! For diet I've been eating mostly raw foods, lots of vegetables, grass fed beef, open water fish, and avoiding all sugars, liquid calories, white flour, and minimizing salt and saturated fat. I take multivitamins twice a day, along with flax, wheat germ, and fish oil. I take whey isolate and micellar cassein mixed with water in the morning, at bedtime and after workouts.

Seems to be working!

i'd skip the casein in the morning and post w/o. no need for a slow digesting protein at these times IMO (unless you don't eat for a long time after breakfast, but definitely skip it post w/o). and i'd say skip the whey at bedtime.

do you drink only protein with water before bed? might wanna throw some low GI carbs and EFA's in there.
