The lightweight national champion and newest lightweight professional strongman!

According to James Deffinbaugh he first contacted Mike Caruso and the rest of the Fargo crew to try out strongman training (purely for 'recreation' at the time) around September 10th, 2007. How's that grab ya?

And it was a few weeks before he really started training with us consistently.

We had to encourage him to do nationals this year.

Anyway, awesome job John! You will be a force to be reckoned with.

Yeah, I heard the LW field was pretty stacked. And it came down to the last event. He gave props to the second place gent, whose name slips my mind at the moment.

Kaufman was 2nd and Mutaffis was 3rd. To beat out those two guys is a real accomplishment. Very cool! Hope he does good in the pro ranks.

Yes Indeed Mr. Sikora. Tom Mutaffis is a SUPER BEAST. He will certainly have his pro card very soon.

Schuna is definitely an athlete... no wonder he was so explosive - has a number of NCAA throwing titles to his credit. He dropped from 280+ lbs in 2005 to a lean 230ish at 6'4 for Nationals.

He is used to competing and knows what it takes to win. Very good speed on the moving events and also has a strong deadlift.

Great guy and I am sure he will soon be a force in the LW Pro ranks.

That was a good article Tom. Schuna has a real good athletic background. No wonder he made a good transition to strongman. He'll do real well in the pro ranks. Sounds like he has all the tools to become a champion with whatever he does.
