So I just ordered Dave O's elite tacky from Jackals, the thing is the stones I make are super smooth, have absolutely NO grip at all, so the biggest of those I've been able to lift thus far is a 240, and almost our 280. But yet I've got a 330 in a run in contest, and a 330 x 3 with tacky in training? (in fact with tacky I nearly one motioned the first rep of the 330) So would it be smart to train every other stone day with tacky, and every other without tacky, or just tacky all the time or what's the deal. Need some opinions of better stone lifters than myself?

I used to just train with chalk, but tacky has brought me to a whole other level, stick with tacky! (Haa, no pun intended.)

I think in part it depends (as does so much else) on what your needs are. If your weakness is gripping the stone, then train more often without it. If your weakness is lifting the stone (as in you can get ahold of it ok, but it's just too heavy) then train with it. It sounds as if your problem is the grip. It happens with extra smooth stones. Perhaps train with light tacky? It also matters if you're more focused on strength or speed. If you want to increase your speed for stone runs, then by all means use tacky.
Personally, I rarely use tacky. Mostly because the pay of a grad student sucks and tacky ain't free.

i know the solution. Come up and train with our crew this next weekend. We just made 3 more stones; 260ish, 290-300ish, and for the women 120-140ish

Get a yoke and we'll talk about coming over more often, this next weekend is my last training day before 2 months at sea, so I'm going all out at my place. Heavy Farmers, Max Yoke hold, 750 tire for max reps, log for max reps (dunno weight yet), if the tacky is in by then I will do a stone run up to an attempt at 350 stone. (22 inch stone, its a mean bugger) Then finish it all off by running around with a car strapped to me, then turn around and drag it backwards (makes your quads want to fall off. ;p)
Than I will eat bebes.
