Keep going strong brother! Wookie Wookie! This is directly from his Facebook.

On 6 points, Mick Cotterell 12, Nick Hansen 15 after 4 events.
Lost truck pull by .2s after slipping within 3 metres- climbing shoes needed!
Left an oly shoe at home (d'oh!) and had to do log in basketball shoes, lost 352 forward after holding it at lockout, dropped it on sternum and blacked out.
2nd anvil carry, 1st farmers.
Consistency wins shows, hopefully will continue tomorrow day 2! Thanks to all friends who came and watched.

Thanks guys, I read this thread before I went out for day 2.

Long story short, I came 2nd by 1 pt. With 2 of the 8 events left I blew an 8 point lead on the Suitcase deadlift hold and the stones. I could make all the excuses in the world and say that if I hadn't sprained my index finger on the tire I would have been able to hold on for 3 secondes longer and win the title etc... but you make your own luck at this level.

I will beat my body, make it my slave and come back stronger. And also not be an idiot in the footwear department!

Thanks guys, but not much positive should be said after such a poor performance. Though, looking at my cut and bruised left hand today, it's no surprise the grip started slipping after 15seconds on the hold, somehow held on for 47s, but my right felt good for well over a minute.

I need to get in with a solid training crew and work on all my weaknesses.

I dislocated a pinky on the tire flip once and had the same problem on farmer's walk. Torn up fingers make it tough. Good job though. You now have the inspiration to do better next year.

Well done, Jono. Being as you're only 21, I expect big things from you in the years to come.

Mike, yeah that's true. Can barely open and close my left hand today, but everything else feels fine.

Kurt, sure thing man.

The show started at 10:30am and wasn't done till after 6 each day. During the log lift there were about 15 000 people watching. With events spread often 2-3 hours apart I think it's very easy to get emotionally worn out, especially when the show is yours to lose. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hopefully moving to Cali and getting my butt kicked there.

Amen (in a secular kind of way).

That is a heck of a long show, I'm sure that didn't help your hurt hand much either.

Still, you've got a lot to be happy with there, and as you said - get in with a good crew and the sky is your oyster!

Wait... that's not right...

Thank you men, I am grateful for all the support I've received on here and in NZ. I love strength sports and there is no other sport I'd rather compete in.

Ryan, I do have videos, but have not watched the day 2 vids and don't actually want to. I've had requests for the log-blackout video, but I really don't want it on youtube if I can help it. Wasn't a fun experience.

Dave, this coming weekend I'm doing a highlander games of sorts, incl a 56 WFH, 19lb OS, max log, farmers and natural stones. Am keen to see what I can do on the WFH and OS with no specific training.

and with that said, I'm not the next Kevin Nee, keep me humble! :P

Oh, and Kev, this is maybe 60% of the crowd. I've apparently been on TV at least 3 times regarding the show and sponsors are very keen to support strongman again. We've got about 4.5 million people here, so have to make every effort to grow the sport, increase athletes, recruit sponsors etc. Hopefully that will lead to WSM berths for both NZ and Aus, currently it's completely a Northern Hemisphere contest, and rightfully so until we can produce the goods.

My predictions

WFH 16' (as an OLY lifter you have very strong hips), Just get a few practice throws in to learn the release.

OS 45' (very light stone but no training). more than 45' is very possible

I don't blame you; I wouldn't want something like that on YouTube either. That had to suck.

Show us the good stuff.

What about Carl Waitoa representing NZ in WSM '05?

I didn't even know you were competing as a strongman these days.

National level already?

Incredible show bro

I'm not sure what wookie wookie means but........

Sounds like it'll be a fun comp, but no caber?? 45+ with a 19lb stone would be pretty good. Make sure you post some pics for us!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I think it really depends on how co-ordinated I am on the day. The power for 16' is there, but it will be pretty impressive to launch a mark many pro-HG guys can't hit, all on no training.

45' with a 19lb stone would be pretty sweet. I'll give it my best shot. Max log on grass is going to be interesting too!

Dave: There is a caber comp, but it's not an official part of the 5 event show. Don't know the organisers, so it's hit and miss as to whether they'll bring a decent sized stick.

Ryan: That is true, we have had guys at WSM before. Waitoa came and did NZSM right before WSM and came 2nd. Apparently he was at about the level I am now, with a weaker OH, but a decent deadlift. Currently NZ and Aus have no one at WSM.

Jeff: Cheers man, I appreciate it. I've decided that I enjoy oly stuff, but it's perhaps not the best use of my strength and frame. I will continue to train mostly oly based though.

Jett: Thanks... I've got a million comebacks for you, but I'll be nice. :BB:

Never...

I just didn't think it was worth responding to. I'm not an Australian. Of course, if you look closely in the picture I posted above, you will see hundreds of sheep sitting in the beer tent.
