I gotta say I watched this Pay Per view and it was stacked with alot of great fights. Brawl style type wars for 3 rounds, Some sweet submissions, Excellant jiu jitsu, and the finale with Brock a freestyle type style vs. Randy a Greco roman style. It was a good matchup with Brock catching Randy with a right knocking him down and pounding it out with Hammer fists and elbows to capture the World Title. It was a great Pay Per View. Definately worth the money. Can't wait til December! It's gonna be stacked!

Don't forget Jeremy Stephens outstanding uppercut KO of Dos Anjos, can't wait to get the gif of that one. Great card, great fights. Would have liked to see Randy win again, but oh, well...

I dont think it should've been stopped but whatever. Yeah, the fights were pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised until that debacle of a title fight. Also, steve mazzagatti might be the worst ref on the planet. He jumped in, hten jumped back out in the gonzaga fight, and he let Dos Anjos take several unnecessary shots to the head after stephens KOd him

I am such a sucker to take the debate bait.
When they tried to stand Couture up he rolled around a little bit and was obviously gone. Glad to see another Minnesotan when a huge title.
Now we must all move on and anticipate Penn v.s. GSP for the Welterweight title!

I agree, After they stopped the fight Couture appeared to be done.
Im looking forward to December 27th! W. Silva Vs Rampage, Griffin vs Evans, Mir vs no-idea-how-to spell-his-name-ah

Hell yeah Victor Thanks for mentioning that Uppercut. Man Stephens hit Anjos with a Street Fighter type upper cut. Man he was night, night after that upper cut. That was one of the best knockouts i've seen in awhile.

Yeah it was pretty brutal. I was amazed Randy did so well. He is one of my favorite fighters, but Brock was too much. I cant wait until the Axe Murder takes outs Rampage on the 27th of December! Good times.
Here is a Video of both of their previous fights..... WARNING EXPLICT LANGUAGE

Randy was responding to punches and moving about to change his defense - that's why brock switched to the flurry of elbows. He didnt get up either because they didnt let him, or because he knew it was over and would do no good, not because he was out cold.

Couture was out. He's admitted it himself.
There was no defending going on either. He just happened to roll onto his side. Lesnar transitioned and started throwing some short elbows. IMO the ref let that go longer then he normally would have had it been someone other then Randy.
Props to Lesnar for winning the belt in his 4th pro fight. Randy did the same in his 4th pro fight, but those were different times. The sport has evolved since then, competition is much stiffer. What Lesnar has accomplished in his short career is nothing short of amazing.

Unless the ref were steve mazzagatti then he would've let it go on WAY longer. ;)
where did randy say that? (not a challenge, just interested in reading/seeing hte interview. I dont recall him saying that in the post-fight, but certainly wouldnt swear to it)

:YT: He is a BIG dude! I think he is still over rated though the sheer size difference accounts for alot. They were total opposite ends of the weight spectrum for that weight class.

He sells more PPV's than Noguira thats all. Doesn't make it right but the ufc is A business

Then why the hell does Dana bash elitexc for trying to make money with kimbo? Don't start preaching about about how much you love the sport when an unproven fighter with a 2-1 record gets a title shot.
I'm not saying that Brock isn't tough, but he's only had three fights! How does that add any legitimacy to the sport

Well, you're certainly right, technically speaking
You can make your argument if you view things as black and white with no gray area and say PPV buys should play NO role is putting together a card, but I think the gray area is huge here, though.
Lesnar is legitimate, and despite what people viewed as WWE taint when he first signed with UFC, he was the NCAA champ in 2000, the runner-up in 1999 (he lost a 1 point decision to Stephen Neal, who went on to win the Pan-Am games and the World Championahip that year), Lesnar was also of course a Big 10 champ, and a 2-time JUCO national champ. Kimbo was/is an unskilled fighter and elite XC tried to exploit him because of his youtube fame, so they took heat for that. You just can't compare a wrestler of Lesnar's caliber to a guy who knocked out a bunch of chumps on youtube.
Yeah, if Lesnar wasn't such a draw, he'd have to beat a lot more guys before earning his shot. So, yeah, Lesnar being who he is, thus being a huge draw played a role in him being in a title fight so soon, however the UFC can't be compared to elitexc because Kimbo couldn't carry Lesnar's jock strap. What I mean is Dana White didn't exactly throw Hulk Hogan or John Cena into big UFC fight. While he did see dollar signs for sure, he also did his homework and istened to people he trusted who said Lesnar was for real.
So, is it totally fair? Probably not. But, is it the same as EliteXc and the Kimbo debacle? Certainly not.

Lesnar's size is also a huge draw. If you took another WWE star, like say The Rock, and threw him in there it would be a big draw but not as big a draw as a human monster fighting.
With what Tony just stated and Lesnar's cartoonish size, Lesnar becomes the perfect draw for sales. Whether you watched the fight in hopes Brock would win, or if you watched it cheering him on, you still paid to watch the fight.

Chris, exactly right. I no longer follow any of the MMA fights, but Lesnar caught my attention, with a combo of his huge size, prior history, etc.
It might not be "fair" that he gets a title shot so fast, but if it made a guy like me pay attention, I think it was the right move, assuming it's about drawing viewers and making money.

That is the price you pay for being a heavyweight. I love Randy, but Brock had his number.

That is awesome Chris. I know Joe. His gym is right down the street from me. Very respectful and does not make any waves. I used to bounce at a bar he frequented. (This is before he quit drinking) he would walk in, and I would say, "Joe I really dont feel like getting beat up tonight". He would laugh and say, "I got ya bro."

Haha, if it were Steve Mazzagati then he probably would have took a point away from Lesnar for hitting Randy behind the ear with the right hand that initially dropped him. ;)
I'll have to find the vid I saw where Randy talked about it, but first I'll recap. When asked about the punch, he stated that he felt he slipped the punch but due to Lesnar's ridiculous reach, he didn't slip it enough.
He then went on to state he remembers nothing between attempting to slip that punch and laying on his back staring up at the lights while eating leather. He stated he didn't remember getting hit at all. I'm pretty sure he outlined that point in both the post fight interview and press conference. The vid I saw was from some event later on in the night however.
Like I said earlier, IMO Yamasaki let that go a little longer then normal so the finish would be clear. It was a title fight afterall, so that is expected.
It took Randy a good 90 seconds or more to even make it back to his feet after it was over, what do you suppose would have happened had Lesnar continued to pound on him? I'll admit he wasn't completely lights out but when a fighter is laying there stiff-legged taking continual shots that are bouncing his head off the canvas without doing anything to stop it, it's time for the ref to step in. If they don't, then eventually we are going to see a fighter get seriously injured which will hurt the sport. MMA has a hard enough time getting sanctioned in some states as it is.

Actually he sells more PPVs then Werdum. IMO Werdum got the shaft since he had consecutive wins over Vera and Gonzaga. Which sounds kind of funny now since Werdum recently got KO'd by an unknown Junior Dos Santos instead which resulted in Werdum's contract not getting renewed.
The reason Nog didn't get first crack at Randy is because they were already halfway through taping the newest season of TUF with Nog and Mir for coaches when Randy announced his return to the UFC.
Don't worry though, once Nog disposes of Mir he'll get his crack at Lesnar and the undisputed UFC HW strap. We'll really get to see how powerful Lesnar's right hand is that night. IMO his only chance at beating Nog is a KO, which is something that has never happened in Nog's 36 fight career. We'll see if Lesnar has that kind of power in his strikes. Nog has made a career out of taking severe beatings only to pull a sub out of no where.

I apologize for the delay, my internet service likes to act up at the worst times. Below is the video I was originally referring to, although Randy doesn't really say much more then he did at the post fight press conference and the interview immediately after the fight. Besides his comments on what he feels a Fedor/Lesnar bout would look like at this point.

to those who say he didn't deserve title shot...he beat the champ. How does that not show he deserved a shot? And also, he does not have the belt, just the title. Nog has the belt. That's why next year they are setting up the undisputed championship between Mir/Nog and Lesnar, as John said.

I finally found an interview where Randy is outright asked what he thought of the stoppage. Of the many I've watched after this fight, this is the first one that the stoppage has been brought up directly. The question is asked 8:07 into the interview. Link is below.
