Poundstone on the news in CT Monday 11/17

I was watching the news this morning and I saw that Fox 61 in CT will be airing a story on Derek at 10:00pm tonight. I don't really watch the news, I just like checking out their traffic girl. Next thing I know I saw Derek's face. It scared the crap out of me. I'll report back on the wonderful story tomorrow for all of you non CT people. Maybe they will have it on their website after it airs. Congrats Big D.

Yeah I hear Derek is on there tonight, its amazing how big this sport is taking off in Northeast US :)

Thanks for posting this up Vinny, I also posted something on the Media section. The segement was put together very well and they had plenty of footage. They came to the gym twice and filmed a full workout each time and also visted my work to tape about an hour worth of footage in addition to Kristin sending them about 30 minutes of training footage and the footage of the safe press from Sweden. I'm sure it will be up on the www.fox61.com in the morning. Kristin and I have really been trying to get as much publicity as possible for the sport and in CT so far it working very well. I've been getting coverage in either the news paper, by doing radio shows or news shows about once per month. I just at every opportunity as I feel this sport has so much potential. The Muscle Mag Artice in in the January issue which should be on news stands any day now is a great article and I look right at home in the magazine. People love Strongman, they just need it to easily accesible.

Just to clear something up, I told the reporter several times that I was 2007 Americas Strongest Man. I explained to him that I didn't choose to compete in ASM this year because of the contest at MSG. They still refered to me as Americas Strongest Man in the video anyway.

That was a really great video Derek. It's always good for the sport when the general public sees a hard working, articulate guy explaining the sport and the drive it takes. It helps kill a lot of the bad stereotypes of "meatheads", etc that gets associated with strongman with no real good reason. Great job!

Please, please, let's not start this stuff again. Last year when Derek won ASM there were people saying "oh, well not everyone showed up, there were super series qualifiers during ASM qualifiers, it might've been different if other people had shown up." Give Krystal the credit he deserves. He's America's Strongest Man 2008. Arguing about who the best American strongman is is fun, and I'll argue that it's Derek til I'm blue in the face, but ASM is a title and Krystal won it this year. I just dont want to see the same kind of infighting that happened with Zydrunas and Mariusz not going head to head. Derek's done the classy and accurate thing in acknowledging Krystal as ASM 08, and hopefully Derek will get a chance to reclaim that title in 09

Jay and Easton, I really appreciate the sentiment but I was at the tail end of discussions such as this in 2007 as far as who showed up and who didn't. As Kevin said, one could argue who is the top American Strongman but the title was earned by Jason. I understand what you are tying to say, but I think it came out wrong. Thanks though ;)
