For those that do know know, I had my left distal bicpes tendon re-attached in june after it ruptured.

Now 5 months later the problematic right one has not gotten any better. I had an MRI on it, it shows a partial tear.

SO no I have a few options.

1. Have it fixed before complete rupture. When I want it done. This will put me out of work for 2-3 weeks. (Out of work for me means not just not pay, it still cost me money to keep the barber shop there.)
2. Have it fixed if/when it comes off. Could be any time. Last time I was out of work 30 days.
3. Do nothing at all. Wait for it to come off, and still do nothing.

The results of the last surgery were great. Back to 90%+ strength in 5 months. And no pain at all.

So what do you guys think?

Any idea what the odds are that it'll tear? If it's 80% certain that it'll tear, and that you'll be out of work for 30 days, I'd say get the surgery pre-rupture. If it's 50/50 maybe you wanna take your chances.

Are there any slow times in the haircutting biz? Maybe if you could PLAN which 2 weeks you'd be out it wouldnt be as bad?

Not sure of the odds yet, meet with the dr. wed.

And for slow time, jan-feb. And If I "chose" to have it done, that will be the time.

ahaha, tape it up.

I'm no doctor but wouldn't it be easier to fix it before it breaks then afterwards?

Is it the tendon or the muscle? If its the muscle I would think with rest the tear will fill in and heal up. No missed work just a little down time training. If its a partial tendon tear it should still fill in I believe it will just take a lot longer. Does the doc think it wont heal on its own? Seems kinda strange. When i tore my achilles the doc said if I did nothing it would reattach on its own but it would be a stronger repair if he reattached it so thats what i did. I am suprised they would repair it if it wasnt fully torn. Maybe get a second opinion? Either way I wish you luck and pray you have a quick recovery.

I got the final word, for now, from the DR. It is a SMALL patial tear. Does not need surgery. It is not nearly as bad as I thought. I am veary glad for this!!

So a small tear with some tendonitis. No need for any big worries. Could get worse, but for now its good to go. Just some pain, and I can deal with that. I plan on giving it some time off after the paxton show.

A for the tear healling on it's own, DR was unsure if it would.

partial tendon tears take forever but they generally will fill in. Partial MUSCLE tears will heal a hell of a lot faster.

Take it easy if it's a tendon. Give it some time to heal and give it a lot of high rep work to flush blood into it. Bands, small DBs, and cables are great for recuperation.

This is one situation where accentuating the eccentric seems to pay pretty big dividends.

Good luck.

if it's tendonal, might be worth looking into prolotherapy. Clinical outcomes research is still somewhat ambiguous but it looks promising. Was thinking about giving it a try myself.

Dana, I would say get it fixed now because you never know how bad it could get and you risk missing even more work. JMO Let me know if you need anything. See you in Paxton, maybe with one arm I can beat you! :T:
