View Full Version : Beard issues

I was doing stones tonight over a fairly high yoke (60") and kept getting my beard caught between the stone and my chest. It made it very difficult to put my head back to finish the lift.
I know there are some guys on here with some pretty impressive sets of facial hair, and I'm wondering if any of you have encountered this issue and if so what you do about it.
I could trim it, but it's taken some time to get it this size so I'd prefer not to. I suppose I could use hair clips and attach it further back, but I'm thinking there's gotta be a better way.
Ideas?

I have braided mine before and that has seemed to keep it out of the way(just have a fu manchu/handlebar mustache now so its not a problem)
try throwing it in some kind of braid or something maybe that would help...thats all i kind offer.

I feel your pain Scott. (not at the moment, I'm seasonally trimmed) It also happens to me on a 12" log, or zipping my coat up.
Braids work well.
Quick and dirty- twist, double the area over, and rubber band it.
Eventually I learned to just synchronize my head movement with the offending apparatus.

Beard nets are used in some workplaces where hygiene regulations have to be followed. They're not pretty but can hold the facial hair out of the way.

Get mine cought all the time on the bar. Put it in a pony tail and you shouldn't have any problems, if still too long, double it back in the pony tail. But never ever trim it!!!!!

I wish I still had my beard. It was beautiful.

I know Conan had a problem with getting his beard caught on the axle clean, I believe it was. His solution was to put it in his mouth. Worked liek a charm, so Im told. Sal recommended that he wear a ski mask.

I hope to be man enough to grow a beard some day. Right after I hit puberty...

Duncan, you look like a bum with your beard, beer and disheveled look...nice.

I'm not nimble-fingered enough to braid. And Mathison...just...no, no NO!
I'll try the pony tail trick, and if that doesn't work, the mouth trick (although that might make it hard to breathe I think). If not then I'll look into a hair net.
Trimming is last on my list, since my next career goal is to be the next Santa Claus (I mean, the guy's old and has to retire sometime, right?) and I'll need it for that.

Nice, looks like I got a little ways to go to get to that level!

"I thought I told you to trim those sideburns!"
I have to say, having grown various short beards, I must applaud all your various efforts. Equally, having caught my short beard in a few things in my time (zips, Velcro etc.) I can't imagine what it's like dealing with those behemoths day in day out...

Are you sure you can handle working one day a year? That would be a massive increase in your work schedule

At present, probably not, but I hope to work my way up to it. I think having several billion servings of milk and cookies will be enough motivation to crawl out of bed though.
