Fortissimus 2008 - consider the lineup: Arild Haugen, Zydrunas Savickas, Andrus Murumets, Ervin Katona, Mark Felix, Travis Ortmayer, Louis-Philippe Jean, Dominic Filiou, Christian Savoie, Sebastian Wenta, Mikhail Koklyaev, Derek Poundstone, and Stefan Solvi Petursson. Artwork courtesy of Paul Ohl.

Paul Ohl, Louis Cyr scholar and strongman supporter extraordinaire, was approached by Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire Mayor Carl Dubé, who proposed that Ohl organize a major strongman contest in his town. Paul Ohl agreed, and over the coming months the contest named <A href="http://www.ironmind.com/ironcms/morenewsv6.php?id=2538" target=”_parent”>Fortissimus began to take form.

Fortissimus “brought together 13 world-class strength athletes from 10 countries . . . They were to challenge 10 events, and only one would become the legendary Louis Cyr's modern successor,” said Paul Ohl.

With commentary in both French and English, the DVD of the contest has more than two hours of action, and IronMind is expecting to receive the first shipment within a few days - once we actually have the DVDs in hand, we will announce their arrival and put them in IronMind online store ("")</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

To all supporters and strongman fans the world over let me just say that we ( FORTISSIMUS WORLD STRENGTH CHALLENGE) consider it as an honour to offer this DVD in memory of one of the greatest strongman encounter ever.

We have lived every moment of the drama. We have witnessed a dramatic finish, worthy of a great script. Yet reality was a pace ahead of fiction. And we humbly believe, as do the thousands that were in attendance, that this competition was second to none.

One strength athlete came out on top, proving that he could claim, as he rightfully did: " I am Fortissimus !" He was. Another one proved once again that he was and still is the most fearsome competitor in the world. This is what made FORTISSIMUS such a mighty encounter.

We were honoured as well as MILO magazine selected the event as one of its four top stories of the year. It just proves that any dream can come true.

Please enjoy this DVD and let the dream come to life once again.

Yes I did videotape it but on Travis's video recorder! Hey Travis now you can watch the end without having to hear my whimpering in the background!!

Enjoy All! It is one of the greatest shows on the earth!

ps...Thank you Paul for releasing the DVD. I hope all is well and please tell your wife I was asking for her!!

I'm excited as a man could be; I was there for the first day of competition. That being said, only two hours of competition? Is this being shown like the IFSA 2005 or 2006 DVD? The 2005 was LOADED with compeition footage whereas the 2006 had episodes where it condensed the whole competition into a few 1/2 shows. ( mind you they had more footage in disc 2/3, but seemed lacking compared to the 2005 DVD )

Either way, I'm still buying it. It could be 15min of watching the competitors eat sandwiches and I would still own it.

In fact, the DVD lasts 2 hours 23 minutes of non-stop action. All competitors are getting their share of exposure, with of course more focus on the main contenders.

Those who may still think that Zydrunas Savickas cannot hold his own in speed events may want to reconsider. As for the USA showdown, Derek and Travis answered the bell !

Hopefully, this is the first of a memorable serie. FORTISSIMUS is alive !

Just spent my Saturday night with the girl, applebee's 2 go and the Fortissimus DVD.

Awesome DVD! It would have been alot better if I didnt already know the results of all the events and the final haha.... The DVD was very well put together. Very professionally put together. Good / sometimes corny commentary... It is split up into 5 seperate episodes that seem to be made for television w/ breaks for commercials (no commercials though).

Poundstone / Savickas recieved the most attention/air time through out the entire DVD. Throughout the different episodes the attention was more focused on those who were towards the top.

THe highlight IMO was Poundstone loading the 517lb stone. The annoucers / Savickas only seemed concerned with how fast Derek loaded the first 2 stones and didnt even mention anyhting about the possibility of him loading the 517. As the annoucers are saying that they think Savickas won, they suddenly stop and seemed to be shocked that Derek had the 517 off of the ground. they were like "wait a minute".... The 517 load was AWESOME.... It looked painful and ackward but it was awesome! All of the other athletes seemed to give up on the 517 with-in seconds, if they even tried at all... Took alot of heart for Derek to load that... Great job!

Other highlights were Arlid Haugen saying "eff you" to the ref during the atlas stones.

Definitely worth the 40. There were certain parts that seemed a little corny and the commentary could have brought more excitement into it. But overall it was great.

On behalf of all the FORTISSIMUS staff and mostly, of all the volunteers who put in countless hours to make a dream come true, I do thank you all for sharing this DVD with us. We are honoured by your positive comments.
And above all, we thank you on behalf of the 13 competitors who stood and delivered in such gutsy and flamboyant fashion.
We have witnessed one of the greatest encounter and that in itself makes history in strongman sport.
I personally salute the attitude, sportsmanship and loyalty of Derek Poundstone. He was the first competitor in, at a time where FORTISSIMUS was under scrutiny. And then came Zydrunas. The fearsome one was everything one can expect: a formidable competitor and a true gentleman.
We owe them for such unique memories.
Thank you all.

Just received mine today for Ironmind

Have only watched the first 2 episodes and the quality of the footage is superb.

But I'm a little disappointed that more effort wasn't put into making a good DVD. The show is broken down into episodes with breaks for advertisement (not that there is any). Why not spend a little more time editing it and cut these out??? At the beginning of each episode there's an intro and credits at the end, these just get irritating, again these could have easily been cut out. Intro for the first episode and credits at the end of the final one.

But why have it broken down into episodes, when your just going to want to watch the contest from start to finish. Or watch a specific event?? :BB:

Overall a good dvd, that would have been great had more time been spent editing it for a dvd.

I just finished watching my Fortissimus copy yesterday...WOW! If I hadn't already known the results I would have shat myself. What an ending. I echo all the positive comments. The dvd being split into episodes did not bother me at all, I just used my remote buttons...

One comment for Paul if he is still looking - it looks like there were quite a few problems with the venue/set up. I am sure these will be fixed for the second edition. I also hope for a little more background/bio on each competitor next time.

Overall, great job, especially for a first time show.

I just finished watching mine. Worth the $$, in my opinion, but then again I'm biased because I'd been wanting to see derek's performance.

You get to see some events that are not often (or never) contested, along with a great finish. Just about the only difficulty is that the time/reps are not displayed on-screen for all the events (for the races tehy seem to include time, but not medleys. No rep counter on the deadlift for reps) and the time to beat, reps to beat arent displayed either, so you have to keep your own little scorecard if you want to keep track of that.

Definitely looking forward to next year.

What did you guys think about Arlids (sp?) atlas stone run? and was it just me, or did anyone else notice that TO's foot didnt touch the line in one of the events (some type of race, maybe the one with the sack on there back)

Just finished watching the DVD, at work, and I really enjoyed it. Well worth the money invested. I was even able to see myself multiple times through out the first half. I'm going to have to print off the picture of Zydrunas doing the static hold and my wife, and I, taking his picture. It'll line up perfectly. Still not quite a fan of the result but a winner wins, so what can you say.

Awaiting Fortissimus 2009 tickets to go on sale. ( Hoping it's closer to Ontario as the 8hrs drive one-way was fun )

Finally got around to watching this. Totally awesome. Thanks also to Paul and all the competitors who put on a spectacular show. This was the coolest competition, everyone I met was awesome, and it turned out really well on video. You can see me and my mega-beard during the atlas stones.
