I have been approached about teaching this personal trainer course through the World Instructor Training School but have never heard of them. I have done a lot of reading about them and it seems semi-reputable, but there are somethings about the program that bother me. Has anyone ever heard of them? taken the course? know someone who has? I could use the extra $$$ but don't want to get involved with some scam. Here is their web page: www.witseducation.com

What do ya'll think?

It isn't a scam...In Connecticut WITS is pretty big because of the fact its $250 and a few weeks for the course...I used them just so I could personally train with a certificate...

Most certificates that aren't Bachelors related are crap for the most part, HOWEVER if an experienced and knowledgeable, or REAL LIFE lifter tought the course, IT COULD be legit in that short term.

Most of the other people getting the certificate didn't work out, didnt know anything, and still got certificates...

Point is, you being knowledgeable might actually bring a better reputation to the company, thats what they need...I would go for it, you can make some extra money and actually properly teach people. If they actually had real instructors the cert. would be comparable to other basic certs...

Also, maybe you will find other experienced people who need the cert. just so they can 'legally train' in many clubs. I know plenty of people who don't have cert's who have the personality and skills to be awesome, and likewise people who have cert's who dont know a thing about working out...except they studied and passed the test...

The thing I learned after 8 years of PT (part-time mostly) is that you HAVE to be good in sales, you have to upsell, maintain and sell more importantly than anything, besides motivating clients. So in your teaching, you might want to prepare your trainers to SELL SELL SELL!! Any questions, PM me!!

I'd make sure the new trainers don't throw clients on a treadmill and let them sit for half the session, this is a quick way to lose clients. Getting results in a few sessions as you already know isn't going to happen, so you gotta make sure they are in it for the long haul and have money to spend. Unless you get the very rare exception where you teach someone and get them on a routine and they themselves maintain.

Hope this helps..^^ for others

I've never heard of it.

But, judging from Wes' reply that might simply be a regional limitation.

Thanks for the info Wes. Having never heard of it and no one I know having heard of it was just a little leary of putting my name on something I knew nothing about.
