I would, but wanted to know who else would. It offers some guys an opportunity to compete, that can't on Saturday for whatever reason.

Haha! This is a good idea actually. Having a contest on a Sunday can be great potentially because almost no one works and can come out to watch.

This would generally be for local contests; I wouldn't want to fly or drive too far on a Sunday to be back by Monday.

I agree with Eric, if the contest was local, maybe within an hour or two drive, I would be more than happy to hit a Sunday comp.

Sundays would be just fine with me. :D

I think it would be worth a try...
What do you guys think about having contest start in the afternoon around 1pm-2pm? Opposed to the normal 10am

ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!?!?! Bust my ass on Sunday and then have to walk up and down the 2 fleights of stairs AND carry stuff around work and school the next day while sore? How I could I pass that up?!?!?!?!
Seriously though, I would be perfectly fine with a Sunday and almost any Sunday is fine with me, but a Sunday on a holiday weekend with Monday off would be a much better idea regardless of what people say here. Having to work the next day will keep quite a few from competing. Also, it'd have to be a relatively local contest. I'd drive 3-4hrs top if I knew it was going to be a great contest, otherwise I'd be more inclined to stay home.

Saturday or Sunday makes no difference to us.

I know some people either have children with sporting events etc.. on saturdays or in some cases religious convictions that do not allow for work Saturday or in other cases Sunday. I think it would be nice to see a few of these although it would not work out for me very well. I think Saturdays would work out better for most, but I would like to see some of those others accomidated for.

Good points Scott.
I think Sundays would work best for local shows or those that don't need to fly in. Definitely a good option though Mike.
I know we used to go to a meet in McPherson, KS that was a Scottish Festival that had HG on Saturdays and SM on Sunday.

Like it was previously stated if local then Sunday would be fine but to compete on Sunday then try to get back to work on Monday would be tough.

I actually dont think it would make a difference to me whether it were local or not. If it's far away you either have to take friday off to travel TO the comp if it's on saturday, or take monday off to travel FROM the comp if the comps on a sunday.
... in fact, now that I think about it, if the comp were run fast and done early, then Sunday might actually require less time off of work for those travelling. Travel out on saturday, if the comp were started early and was done early afternoon you could travel back that afternoon/evening. Depends how far you have to go, how physical your job is, etc, but it might have its advantages for some people. interesting concept

Nationals this year was a two day contest and Florence will be as well, along with Orlando (although Orlando is a Friday / Saturday).
Granted those do not provide any advantages over just a Saturday contest but the turnout for Utah was quite good (48 LW and 30+ HW)
Kevin's idea is interesting and I think for a local contest (within 4 hours drive) the Sunday contest is better. Gives you time to drive out, relax, get a good nights sleep, compete, and then drive home afterward.
The downside is that if the contest is far (air travel or greater than 4-5 hour drive) it is a lot tougher for most people to take off a Monday than it is to skip out early or take off on a Friday.
I would assume based on your location in Upstate NY that you are mostly trying to draw guys within a 4-5 hour driving radius and for that I think a Sunday contest would be fine. Half of the time I travel home Sunday night from a Saturday contest anyway because we go out after the event... but then again a Sunday contest wouldn't offer the same social activities which could be another downside for some who might be coming from outside the area.

I wasn't really just asking for me, just a generalized question about everyone's feelings on the subject.

Good point Kevin, hadn't thought about it that way. You are right, I usually take off/leave early on a Friday for a Sat. comp. so would just do the same (go in late or take off) Mon. for a Sun. comp.

Many of Conor's wrestling tournaments were 2 day affairs with like 20 or 30 guys per weight class. I remember many times driving 5 or 6 hours for a Fri night weigh-in and then driving another 5 or 6 hours home Sun night.

I like the idea of sunday competitions as long as I can get mondays off, so holiday weekends would work great, as well, that would help name the shows, such as if you wanted to do a charity event for toys for tots or something like that, it would probably get alot more publicity that way too. ;p Just my opinion.

If it was close I would still compete. I think the problem would be in getting non-local competitors. But if it was close enough I didn't have to get a hotel I would for sure compete.

To me, anything under a 4 hour drive is local.

I am having a hard time understanding how that answer applies to just Sundays. Wouldn't the logic be the same, regardless of the day of the week. The drive is the same distance and you would still need to get a hotel the night before or after.

I used to do my powerlifting on a sunday so I have no objections I'll compete any day of the week!...after my finals that is lol. "I DON'T CARE WHAT THE EVENTS ARE I AM GOING TO WIN THEM ANYWAY!" JPS always gets me laughing with his awesome Viking mentality.

Well guys, it looks like Sunday shows might be an option. I think one of my shows this year will be on a Sunday and see how it goes

Our first contest that we held was on a Sunday and it went great. We will also be having another one on a Sunday this Spring.
