I forgot about Whit Baskin, I was a big fan of his, he was only a couple years older than me, and I remember him competing in the WSM finals sometime in the late 90's, he seemed like he had an unlimited future in the sport. Great grip and great overhead, I remember he was in a car accident some years back, but had heard he made a full recovery.....I was just wondering if anyone knew if he was back in the sport competing and if he was how he is doing.

From what I heard from his postings on the Anvil, he is pursuing a 105K ASC card.

I met Whit at my very first comp. a few years back and he was a hell of a nice guy. I dont think he has ever made a "full" recovery. From what I understand he still has a few "issues" particularly with yoke (something about one of his legs is not as mobile), but just for the guy to compete after being in a coma for something like 2 months (wasnt it?) is amazing.

Alot of people don't know this, but Whit was the person who inspired me to do my first show. I saw him kicking butt on the WSM proving that younger athletes can do good too. At the time I was planning on waiting untill I got much stronger to begin competing. I didn't know then that the best way to get good is to jump in and start gaining experience.
this is a cool link- http://www.deepsquatter.com/strength/archives/interview13.htm
what about Whit's traps? unreal!

I dont know how many times I read that article over and over when I first gained interest in strongman.I too became interested after seeing him competing in WSM in Malta.Watching the car deadlift hold still gets me motivated

I wish I had that when I first got interested in strongman. It would have saved me quite a bit of time trying to figure things out on my own and bothering others-lol.
