The proposed rule states that the bar must have 15cm of travel during the bench press.

Have an old Powerlifting USA mag laying around somewhere with an Asian dude whose arch is so ridiculously high, his ROM is only something like 6-8" I'll look and see if I can find it.

haha my form is perfect on bench not going lie.... And i have stumpy arms! If ya do bench right most normal sized people will be around 8-12inchs from bar to chest I think. If ya put a high arch and bench to the belly you will have liek 5-8

I wish my form was perfect. I just learned how to squeeze my shoulder blades together and how to pull my feet under me to maximize my arch. It is hard to get used too, but my bench is going up.

I had decent form awhile ago and my bench was high, Now I got almost perfect form and use a slight arch and I just did 500x3 on bench monday It really does make a difference!Ya look silly getting setup though but its worth it when the big weight moves easily! Keep at it, bench is just one of them lifts that is more getting just the right spot for your body, then getting stronger.

I completely agree...it looks like a circus when I set up. Ppl give me all sorts or stupid looks, but it is working.

Good, this will give all of the crappy benchers (IE me) out there more hope when competing... then again I have to do super close grip so my ROM is still like 18"... I fail.

Its ok with eastons girls clone with boobie enhancement she will be practically brain dead, since brain sync technology doesnt exist yet. So you should raise your GPA a little!

I would hope so, I mean I seen some big kachungas in some PLer women and its quite un fair if they use them to an advantage....In benching and in life:M:

Ummmmm how exaclty is this going to be enforced? Is there going to be a fourth referee with a ruler saying "hold on to that 300kg bar for a few extra seconds while I measure this one".

I understand the presmise. But I cant think of any reasonable way to enforce this rule; therefore it seems garbage.

It said the judges will make the call has soon as the bar is handed off. if they feel that the ROM isn't sufficient, they won't give the signal to start the lift.

I'm wondering what sparked the debate to begin with. The IPF already has a rule about bringing the bar to the pecs, which tries to eliminate the belly bench, as well as a feet flat on the floor rule. I'm having a tough time picturing someone arched out like the St. Louis arch, with the feet flat, bar on pecs, and with less than a 6" ROM.

T rex?

So if a judge never issues the lift command, the lifter should be able to re-rack and reset with no reds as long as it's still under 60sec?

i hate the ipf. this is why powerlifting will remain a joke. they had a rule about how high you could arch and then you head cant come off the bench and if you struggle at all its not a good lift the bench rules in the ipf are a joke. powerlifting should be squat OHP and deadlift

Keenan Hollingsworth

Looks like I wont be giving IPF my money this year.

If someone can pull off an insane arch, they should be able to.

Whats next; people with long arms doing deadlifts need to do 2 reps because their ROM is shorter then mine?

Good question.

Could you image how mentally blown you'd be if you had to try and change your set up on the fly?

OHP bring a whole new can of worms.... Just do work and care less about what others are doing... Because really does it matter? No because you also are a strongman, that matters, pl is just supplemental bs. Am I right?

Have I missed something?

Whatever happened to lying flat on the bench and moving the bar from full lock out to chest and back.

Simple. That is what I call a bench press!

Maybe I should start my own federation. The John Smith federation of powerlifting.

I think belly benching is ok as long as your not arching so high your rom is 6 inches rofl

People will always try to do what they can to get an edge. This rule should really only affect SHW and midgets. But, I like it just to help discourage the people that try to take advantage of gear and arching.

Something interesting a PLer buddy just told me. The IPF also just allowed the Super Katana (I believe is the one he said). Well if there is any truth to it, his "coach" just got one and couldn't even get 750ish to touch less than 1-board and he said it's only single ply (Something about a reinforced neck). There is obviously a conflict of interest. IPF is stupid? Definitely. Disallow high archers, but allow super gear? Retarded!

they approved the super katana in september of last year because it was supposedly submitted before they put a ban on new gear.

This is a BS rule that could never accurately be enforced. This rule has been brought up in the past, and has been trown out. Unless the IPF is going to purchase expensive computer software and camera systems to videotpe and calculate the actual movement of the bar, it will never happen.

This is not a comment on the IPF only, but subjective rules are enforced all the time. Why is this different than squat depth? We've all heard of squat records that appeared to be high, but were given the white lights.

If you didn't have subjective rules, then you wouldn't need judges.
