If you - an American or from any country - competed in the 2007 IFSA World Championships held in South Korea and were not paid, you have an opportunity to join civil action being taken in Federal Court in Philadelphia very shortly.

This action is being taken on behalf of competitors only.

The air freight forwarder and I are taking legal action against IFSA for the freight charges for the equipment moved to and from the 2007 IFSA World Championships held in South Korea and the storage charges for the same freight that I an responsible for from over the past year.

The equipment was sold but only covered a small amount of the freight charges and none of the storage charges.

Part of the litigation will include the prize money you never received.

The case is complicated, but the attorney believes we have a chance to recover at least some of the prize money you were promised as well as the money John and I are out.

John and I are lead Plaintiffs and are paying the initial filing fee for the claim.

Your case will be taken on a standard contingency fee basis with a recovery of attorney fees upon a successful conclusion of the claim.

This case is going through regardless of whomever else is involved. I hope you join us. Several competitors both from here and around the world are already on board.

If we all take this action together, it will send a message that others trying to get involved in promoting events for professional strongman will be held accountable for their actions. Plus, there is nothing to lose. You may get a check one day for money you already think is lost.

Please e-mail me back with your response. The attorney will be in touch with you right away. FYI, the attorney, who practices here in Philadelphia, is an active lifter and fan of strongman as such he has an active interest in seeing you get paid for your hard work and sweat.

Please contact any competitor both from USA and at the international level and give him my e-mail address if he chooses to look into this.

This could also be a precurser to you guys having legal representation in the future.

My email address is al.thompson@footballstories.com

Thank you,

Hey Al

Thanks for the post, my training partner is the South African competitor Ettiene Smit. He also got ripped off at the IFSA Worlds. I forwarded him your email addy. Its good that you guys are doing this!! It always amazes me how one or two greedy individuals can screw up a sport/federation for their own gain.

Regards
Dan

I need to know a lot more details than what I have read so far before I make a decision. Get in touch and let me know.

We had our first face to face meeting with the attorney yesterday and both the freight forwarder and I left the meeting with tremendous optimism that this civil action will work in recovering not only the money for the freight and storage charges, but for the prize money as well.

We plan to file the suit in federal court before the end of the month. I found out that plantiffs (competitors) can be added as we go forward, but once any judgements are reached, it's over.

Again, there are several guys on board, but I strongly advise if you are not, you take advantage of this opportunity.

It is also an opportunity to have independent representation for competitors.

Jay after talking to Al I understand where he is going to try to get the money from. Its not Dionne , I wouldn't even consider what he said if it was!!! I am going to talk to the other guys who were there before making a final decision. There might actually be a way though and thats all I can say for now.

Actually you can sue a foreign company in the US. Happens all the time. If they do/have done business here, if they've "availed themselves" of US laws, then they can be sued here. It's been a while since I took civil procedure so I can't quote you anything exact as far as how much is enough, but it is pretty slight.
