This is the guy a lot of knowledgable people thinking is the stronger man in the world. How come he has never competed in the World's Strongest Man competition? Granted, WSM doesn't play out to his strengths, but I'm sure everyone wants to see how he'd do. Is it politics? I thought that wasn't an issue since IFSA died. Can someone explain the whole thing to me?

World's Strongest Man (2002, 2003, 2004) – 2nd place

I believe he competed 2002/03/04 and had 2nd place in all three. He beat Marius the one year as Vasyl Virastyuk had first place in 04.
Zydrunas just hasn't competed recently. A shame I say.

Yes, he did compete at WSM in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and got 2nd place. He also competed in WSM in Tangiers in 1998 and Sun City in 2000 but did not make the final.
After the IFSA and WSM split, Savickas competed for IFSA, winning the IFSA World Championship in 2005 and 2006 and coming in 3rd in 2007. During this time, IFSA athletes were not allowed by IFSA to compete at the WSM even if they wanted to.

I've seen it written that Savickas has said he will never compete at WSM for political reasons.
It was one of those oddly translated things though, so it might be inaccurate.

Politics change. It's also possible something like that was said before IFSA disbanded.

IFSA has been gone for a long time now...more than a year!
He followed Marcel with the Champions League. Probably the much better deal for him over the last couple of years. Ended up paying him MUCH more I do beleive.

It was meant to be a reasonably recent quote, most definitely from post-IFSA breakup. I was trying to find the website that I saw it on, but I got there 3rd or 4th hand (as it were) from SDF I think and I can't find it again.

He might very well rank the Arnold Classic contest as far more important, authentic for measure of the World`s Strongest Man. Many would agree. That includes acknowledged men in the know like strength historian Terry Todd who has created the events for the Arnold.

What are the politics involved?
How complicated can "We'll pay you to lift heavy stuff" get?

I agree. However, it seeems like people's petty ambitions mess things up a lot.

Does anybody on this website ever look into history before they post. Doesn't seem like it. I guess strongman started last year. Brian Schoonveld

That is the simplest and best explanation I could have thought of...end of debate!
Oh, and Schoony for President 2010. :KD:

With the conversion rate, seeing as I'm Canadian, I would actually be offering $8.07 American dollars.
