I am looking for a belt. I am not looking for a power lifting belt (just out of personal preference). I would like one I could wear on a log C & P and also for stones. I have tried power lifting belts and the Valeo II belt. Here is what I am looking for and why:
Versatility-something you could wear on any event.
Pliability-I have used belts D Ling and squatting. My prob is I have torn muscle in my ab wall by having my rib roll on the belt.
Width- I would like to find a belt slightly wider than 4", preferably 6".
The spud inc dead lifting belt looked good, but I would like a wider one. Anyone know any belt people that do custom work?
Any suggestions would be helpful.

cardillios does custom belts. They run pretty pricey but they should be able to get you something you're looking for.

i wear a cheap valeo belt for log press and stones. Its about 4-5" wide and is pretty soft with a velcro strap. You can make it as tight as you want but it doesn't restrict movement.
I absolutely love it for log and stones as those are both movements that you need tightness but don't need to be restricted by a thick leather belt. I got it at a local commercial gym supplier.
this isn't the one i have but its pretty close

Have you seen the Spud Inc. triple ply belt? It's extremely heavy-duty, but very pliable. I haven't worn one, so I can't speak of it's usefulness, but I have checked them out a few times at SC Barbell and they are nice.

Jay -
The Spud belt does seem pretty beefy but I don't know how well it would work for what you are looking for, and like you mentioned it is 4" which does not help the strained abdombinal.
I did some searching and found this company who makes a 5" wide power belt:
http://www.bobsbelts.com/belts.htm
Their stuff is supposed to be pretty good and the owner does make custom belts so maybe he could even make one 5 1/2" for you or something slightly larger - although that may impact flexibility too much for events.
Dave's belt is one of the "sport authority" type power blets but it does work very well for events. Sheiko sells a bunch of them I believe as does Nike. I noticed that for IFSA Worlds in 2006 Rob Scherpanski (sp) from Poland was using the velcro belts and then he doubled them up for the yoke race.
You may want to get this 5" power belt and wear it over a Nike or other brand "tapered" belt to support your injury. I think that would be the best combo to provide you with the kind of support that you will need for heavy lifts but also some versatility, the only drawback would be cost since the Bob's Belt is $99 and the nike or sheiko belt will probably run another $30-40.
Hope this helps...

I'll double check when i get home, but I believe I have a sheiko as well, and I LOVE it for axle presses. That's the only event that I personally use it for, but that's just personal preference. Consider this another vouch for the pliability of the belt while still giving a certain amount of tightness (just not as much as a conventional PL belt)
I guess that still doesnt solve the problem of a 6" belt tho...

The power belt that I posted is a 5", I don't know how practical a 6" would be - it might give you the mobility of the Tin-man which would not be ideal for events work. If you can't lean back at all when stone loading that would prevent you from getting stones to higher boxes.
Note: For some reason the quoting script is messed up - my response was quoting Kevin's post.

Jay- Check out the Ocelot Belt (made by Valeo); wicked nice/comfy. I'll second the Scheik belt as well.

And as a bonus it comes in leopard print! Finally some strongman gear that'll match my underwear.

Hey Tom, thank you for posting that link to Bob's Belts. I still have my original belt Bob made for me back in 82", hands down best belts out there. This thing is still more rigid then any other belts I've seen . A 100 bucks is nothing for the quality you'll get.
