From what I remember POD was Christian, would be good for working out to.

Another Christian band I really like is Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, they've got some upbeat songs, dont' know if I could work out to them but I really like them.

If you like heavy metal, Demon Hunter is one of my favorite bands, also there's shinedown thats progressive rock and Flatfoot 56 is punk rock that mimics the dropkick murphys

Not my thing, but Mortification puts out some of the most hardcore christian "death/thrash"metal around-

I like

Disciple
Living Sacrifice
As I Lay Dying
Demon Hunter
and
War of Ages

I'm sure there's some more I'm forgetting about right now, too. Go to www.lastfm.com and type in any of the ones people have mentioned. It will let you listen to them, and other similar artists so you can decide if you like them before you buy.

I usually listen to:

Thousand Foot Krutch
Skillet
Pillar
Kutless
East West

These groups tend to be good lifting music for me.

Most of the above bands are trying to copy 'secular' styles... and sucking at it.

I say that as a guy who has been a Christian for 7 years and is getting ready for a lifetime of pastoral ministry.

Ugh...Lordi is terrible.I saw them at Ozzfest a couple years ago...I thought the crowd was going to kill them.Kind of cool make up and stage show though.Ive noticed that alot of bands come out as "Christian bands" to try to gain popularity with that community, and then try to ease their way into the secular crowd. When I was in high school, everyone at youth group was saying that Creed was a Christian band, just because they would make referances to God.

I liked Kutless's first cd.The newer stuff Ive heard from them seems a little too soft to workout to.You cant go wrong with good old DC Talk.I always liked Skillet too.

Good point in a sense.

Thinking about it though, those bands are just partial to one genre of music over another. Nowhere is it written that "Christian" music needs to include a choir or a wuss with an acoustic guitar. The thing that makes it "Christian" music, is that it's purpose is to honor Christ. This can be done with any style of music, whether deemed secular or Christian.

Good word, I agree. I have been in all sorts of places as far as the church music thing goes. Some would say no instruments at all or it's "demonic". People are either sheeps or goats if you will. People get bent out of shape about tunes when the world is headed to hell in a hand basket while they are sitting in it. There are much more important things to focus on. Not only that, God does not look on the outer appearance, He looks on the heart...

My point is that what passes for Christian music is often just music without cussing etc and some nice morals. You could hardly call it distinctively Christian in anyway. Eg, theres 5 Christians here that have a really popular covers band, Stones, 80's hits etc. Technically some would call them a Christian band, but the reality is its just a bunch of Christians playing music, and good on them. The problem is, much so called Christian music is merely trying to compete with their secular counterparts and fail badly. Anyway, I'll give some examples of music that I got no bones calling Christian... of course some of you hate Hip-Hop and Rap, but just making a point.

I think Jay summed it up beautifully.........Jesus looks on the heart. Take your friends for example. They don't sing "Christian" songs but they could still very well be glorifying God by using the talent He gave them. It's all in the "heart". We would probably be surprised by the true intentions of more than one of the big name Christian artists out there.

Have to agree with jonathan mac on this, but POD and some of Dc talk's songs would be good stuff to listen to. I myself am in youth ministery and have been for 8 years now, some of my mates workout to these bands. Jars of clay, some of their rockier stuff is good too. Glad to see you going back to you roots , God bless.

Thinking bout the subject a bit more and I think when it comes to music or sport or what ever the person is into, all they do if they are Christians is in honour of God. Even if they don't use swear words or follow some of the obscene trends in other shows, clips or songs. But it does go a long way when the band or person publicaly tells their faith in Christ to the world and even better when they share their testimony. I always sit up and notice when a band who claims to be Christian not only says it through their music, but in their lives and when they speak to the public.
