Nice job big john!
yeah it looks to be the same, except that place was packed this year. In 2007, it was after the game and the place was empty......

Nice job! Talk about pressure! Now I think that should be a new rule in baseball. Everytime you reach a base you have to load an atlas stone. Home plate should be a big 420 lber! :D

The 1st stone was listed at 255 to 64". The next one 300 to 60". The 3rd I think was 320 to 56". The 4th was 350 something to 52". The last was 383 to 48". Obviously a much higher degree of difficulty here due to:
-total of 180 feet/60 yards (from 3rd base through home to 1st base) of running (well jogging/waddling for some guys) between the boxes.
-The grounds crew at the stadium was paranoid about the stones leaving any dents in the ground, so we had to use 4 approx 2 ft x 2 ft plywood squares in front of each platform placed side by side under each stone. In other words, the plywood made about a 4 ft wide by 2 ft little platform for the stones to sit on. At least at the last 48" box I was stationed on we tried to stagger slightly the bottom 2 and upper 2 pieces of plywood so the stone wouldn't lie right where the plywood squares came together, pushing down and separateing it in the center and have it stick up on the outside. I may have lost people truing to describe this, but the bootkm line is the athletes had a less stable, probably slightly awkward platform to work on as opposed to the usual large mats at most contests.
-I believe all the stones were new and unsealed, at least the last one the 383 was. Had to be very hard to grip.
I had initially predicted 9-10 of the 12 competitors would complete the course, but given the above difficulties, that pretty much explains why I believe it was 7 who did all 5 stones.

My laptop is down and I can't access youtube on work computers, so I haven't been able to watch any of the contest videos.
There's 3 pro "trees" in the US, 6'6"-6"8, 370-400: :F:
Phil Pfister, Brian Shaw, and John Connor. Brian and John are still 26/27 and 24 I believe and are going to go a long way in this sport if they keep at it.
Congrats John. Was nice meeting you.

He might be a smidge lighter than those three, but don't forget about Dave Ostlund. I think he's about 28 years old and he got 3rd in last year's WSM. Shaw is coming on real strong and should be at that level soon. I look forward to seeing a lot more of John Conner too.

the best thing about john is that he might be the nicest, most polite guy who was there. he was always willing to talk to anyone, take pictures with the fans, and just act like a regular dude, even though he is far from regular! john, you are a true class act, keep that attitude! john even impressed his fellow competitors who are some of the strongest guys in the world, i quote don pope "when that kid figures out what he is doing, he is going to be real scary!" great compliment from one of the greatest strongmen in the world.

The 1st stone was listed at 255 to 64". The next one was I think upper 200s to 60". The 3rd I think was lower 300s to 56". The 4th was 350 something to 52". The last was 383 to 48". Obviously a much higher degree of difficulty here due to:

Great job John. And yes, John Conner is a complete class act and is surprisingly very soft spoken. When I was training, he was one of the guys I trained with. One of the most entertaining things to see is going out with John in public and watch everyone watch John. Seeing a professional heavyweight strongman is likely the biggest human being someone could ever hope to see.

Yeah, I was just thinking of the guys who were in the upper 300s. So make that 4 pro "trees".
