2:45PM- Slater's Pro Max Log
3:30PM-Farmer Walk and keg carry medley – (355# and 300# x 2 approximately 60’ each.)
4:00 PM- Freedom Stone for height – (380# stone.)

Chris Weaver

I'm off of work that weekend so I might take a motorcycle ride down to check it out. Would be awesome to watch in person. Depends mostly on the weather right now.

Your right, it would be great to see in person. From what I understand, Derek and Travis are competing in ASM. Do we know who else will be in the line up?

No I didn't go to a qualifier this year. All the contests were on the eastern half of the country early in the year and I just couldn't make it work. The one contest that was in San Diego was for injured athletes to qualify only so I am out this year. Its a show I have done every year since I turned pro and I hate to miss it. Good Luck to all the guys and stay injury free.

I do not believe Phil does any ASM shows, and I dont think Shaw did any of the qualifying events.

This should be a great contest, i just hope someone gets some good video of all the competitors.

Does antone know what the last height is for the stone for height? The last time I did this event it was a lighter stone, but they made it with a limit of only 72 inches. At that show, I think if more than one made this height it would have been decided by fastest time to make the lift.

I believe the apparatus still tops out at 72", but when Ortmayer set the WR of 74" in Orlando I think they stacked up mats underneath it.

Steve Reid
07-14-2009, 06:26 PM
That is a crazy height! I guess the only two ways of getting a stone to that height would be to shoulder it or pop it up in the air then push it on. Impressive stuff for sure.

lol talk about stacked, only ones missing are Nick Best, Brian Shaw & Phil Phister ?

2 of last 3 winners
-Steve MacDonald (06')
-Jason Krystal (08')

Others who I believe have competed WSM & IFSA Worlds the last 3 yrs:
-Phil Pfister
-Dave Ostlund
-Kevin Nee
-Jason Bergmann
-Don Pope
-Brian Shaw
-Josh Thigpen
-Karl Gillingham
-Nick Best
-Tom McClure

I might have missed one or 2 people. Just goes to show the ridiculous amount of pro talent in the U.S.

Strike my name from the list........2nd one I have sat out in 12 years. Kokomo's unemployment rate ( 18+%) is hurting the expendable income!!!!
Maybe next year?

Big good luck to Team Tabernak at ASM......Dunn and Conner!

Hahahaha!! That's good stuff Mr. Coy.
Wish you could make it though, man. You still have plenty left in you. At 255-260 you have to be pound for pound one of the strongest guys around (and an old fart, too, lol) :T:
Oh, and let me add 'devestatingly handsome' as well...

Me and Big John will try to 'represent the team' well. Hope you make it back to The Great White North in September bro... see ya!

How do you not love Brad Dunn!!!!!

I'm rooting for him and Big John Conner. Mainly because I love rooting for a dark horse and anyone who knows these guys will tell you they are first class in the sport of Strongman.
Plus I still feel bad for breaking one of Brad's stones and if you never seen Big John break stuff on accident it's classic

Scott Markowitz

Don't feel bad about breaking the stone. It gives us a place to sit now after we are ready to pass out from chain dragging.

Then at his first ever Pro show he takes 3rd in a brutal competition with a stacked field of the best America has to offer! The Vincent brothers are awesome! And I know you Texas boys are claiming him, but he just moved there recently, he's still a Cajun!

Nice work everybody!
Kristin, Thanks for all the updates!

Looks like Dereks pressing is coming back since Fortissimus and he's gearing up for WSM!

Ahh, just had an off day at Fort (not too off though - we just expect SO much consistency out of these guys and they usually deliver.) I just noticed this weekend I was worn out and a bit dehydrated and my lifts were probably 5% (or a little more) worse than typical.

I hope I don't sound like I'm arguing...just that if Z is the only guy to beat you on OHP events, no worries, lol! (I totally see what you are saying though. We expect these machines to never have an off day!)

The Americans are finally about where you might expect them to be on a world-wide scene. And a lot of the guys post here which is awesome.

Great job to everyone! This is a BRUTAL lineup anymore and I think you could compare it to 5 years ago and see the difference. 10 years...definitely.:mag:

lol pure madness. and derek was worried about the log. this show is his now.:EL:

LOL! If Derek is slightly below expectations on something one show, it'd be interesting to somehow quantify how much better it is for the following show!

Sorry I didn't have a full break down of final pts for all the athletes. The computer broke down during the last event so there was no print out. I am sure Dione will post the results up when she gets a minute to breath.
Thanks to Dione and Mike for putting on a great show. The competition really ran smoothly. Also a BIG thank you to Steve Slater and his crew. They really do an unbelievable job. They are going for 2 days non stop setting up equipment and breaking it down. And in my opinion Steve has the best equipment out there. He really thinks about the athletes best interest when designing and building his logs, stones etc.
I really enjoyed watching this comp. I was excited to see what all these guys were made of and I was very impressed. They proved that they were in this comp 100%. Obviously great job by Andy. I really see great things comming his way if he continues on the path he is on. I met Marshall for the first time and he is the greatest! What a great stone loader! Brad Dunn really impressed me on he dead lifting. I hope someone got video of that! Van did great as well. He is a lot of fun to watch because of his great personality. Travis had a great come back. He ripped through the truck pull. I knew he was going to do well when I saw the very scary look in his eyes right before the pull. Also his stone for height was Amazing!! I am so glad I got the 72" load on video. He was untouchable in that event. If I could pick one of the athletes that stood out the most besides knowing Derek's and Travis's capabilities it would be Carl F. There was just something about him that made me say wow. Being one of the shorter athletes he struggled with the stone for height. But man you should have seen him with that 380lb stone smashed against his face while he was loading it close to 70 ". He did very well on the tire flip sled medley as well. He actually went up against Travis and beat him. I really see big opportunities for Carl. As for Derek, I had so much fun watching and cheering for him. He really amazes me. I think my favorite moment was the 400lb log lift. He wanted that bad. Derek learned a few valuable lessons in this comp that I am sure he will touch upon. No matter if you win a contest or come in last place, one of the most important things you can do is walk away having learned a lesson. Take that lesson back to training and study! Even though Derek won he still didn't win every single event. In my eyes that is bitter sweet. He gets to walk away with the title and valuable information to be able to improve himself for his next challenge. Derek you know you are my hero and every day inspiration. Congratulations on your success. Let's start training for WSM and never forget there is always someone stronger and training harder, and you can't let that happen!

I am glad I could contribute and post updates literally minutes after events took place. Unfortunately the sport is not at the place where we can watch it live or even at all. Its important we all do our part to help the sport grow. Training and competing is not enough. You have to go further and ask your self what can I do for the sport of strong man other then make a name for myself.

Congrats to all the athletes who competed and thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch a sport I love.

Andy is a beast, yet very modest. I have spent my entire Am "career" getting 2nd place to him, so I can tell you he has the skills and potential to go far in strongman.

Thanks Kristin. Travis made that stone look light, but then again I've seen him do 72" with 360 so I'm not surprised at this. But I did forget that he has nipple rings! God I'd be scared to do any type of chest-involving training with those :(

By the way, in Travis' video, there's a guy wearing a white shirt that says "It's not the size of the stone lifter, it's the size of the stone lifted". Anyone know where they sell that? I love it!

Two things:

1) Derek's shirt is awesome. The American flag incorporated into it looks really cool.

2) Doesn't picture # 047.jpg make Derek look like he wants a Hoagie?

Congratulations ( so I guess three things )

LPJ was there?

Andy, incredible performance, you are a brutally strong dude, lots of guts too. Sorry for being rude and talking your ear off and everything. Grey Goose Coronas whipped my ass.

Top 3 from America's Strongest Man you think would get an invite to WSM... but what makes sense in some eyes, doesn't in others.

I'm praying to god that they invite Zydrunas this year. If they don't then something is really wrong and they can shove it. They can't deny Zydrunas his right to compete, I mean the most decorated man in the sport, the most accomplished, the most respected... well hopefully he gets invited so it never becomes an issue.
