I hate to admit it, but Im actually legitimately excited to see this card!!!
You have Brock Lesnar versus Mir again, I hope Mir wins this time.
Then you got St. Pierre versus Alves, I hope Alves gets his ass beat.
Then, rumor has it the original Mark Coleman is fighting?? Is this true?? This guys a legend!!!
This card should be amazing, anyone else plan to watch it and have any picks??

Probably because IMO UFC has become "WWE-like" compared to what it used to be. I promised myself I wouldn't pay for it again after the Shamrock versus Ortiz fight where he basically just laid there and gave up. But this changed my mind!

This time? He won the 1st time via knee bar.

Anyways, theres only 3 fights i really care about. The rest are good extras.
1. I hope Mir taps Lesnar in the 1st round. Can't stand Brock or his situation. He was 1-0 and demanded to be in the UFC?! The UFC heavyweight champ after 3-1 record? Not a huge fan of Mir, but I hope he makes Lesnar tap with exotic, like a gogoplata or flying arm bar. Although another knee bar would be nice.
2. I hope Alves wins. Not that I hate GSP, but I just want Alves to win. I do know that he probably won't. But I can always hope.
3. Henderson. All those other fighters couldn't knock him out and I don't see Bisping being the 1st. Plus Bisping's TUF coaching job made me like him even less.

I won't be watching. I used to love MMA, but when Pride went under, I lost interest. I don't follow UFC at all. I'm surprised that the sport has lasted as long as it has with UFC basically being a monopoly in the sport.
Enjoy it though guys!

I've never understood this sentiment. I know this will probably start a debate, but the quality of MMA has only increased even with the demise of Pride. Pride fighters haven't done too well in the cage, but still MMA has continued to flourish.

I'm stoked for 100 tomorrow, I can't wait! It's going to be a great day, I have a PL competition tomorrow morning then I come home and watch this great card.
I don't like Lesnar because the UFC HANDED him everything as previously posted hes 3-1 and the champion? Come on, fighters like Cheick Kongo who have fought his way up to a top contender, well before he got beat by Cain, and he never got a shot. The UFC..er should I say dana white, has become too greedy for money and will do anything for an extra dollar. Either way you gotta love MMA and the UFC
My picks
Don't like Lesnar nor Mir really..but I'm giving it to Mir by TKO, with his smooth striking against minotauro I could see it, if not it'll be a repeat of their first fight.
I'm going with GSP over Alves, he's just stud..I think he's going to get some ground n pound in and get a TKO
Finally I'm going with Henderson by KO..since this last TUF season I HATE bisping, he was a jerk on the show.
I'm also looking forward to Coleman vs Bonnar I'm hoping Coleman can make a comeback..highly unlikely but oh well..then theres Jon Fitch, Mac Danzig, CB Dollaway on the card too..good stuff
I'm looking forward to 101 Griffin/Silva I think Griffin could take him..I smell an upset! but thats still a while away
There's my two cents on the showdown

It was the production value for me. It just felt like such a huge event every time I watched it. The Bushido series was insanely enjoyable. I loved Lene Hardt's screaming as she introduced the fighters. Having Bas Rutten interview fighters. And, IMO, the fights themselves were always more enjoyable to watch for me than UFC. Obviously UFC has had its moments over the years, but I think they market themselves towards a certain US demographic that I guess I just don't fall into.
Not a debate, just giving you my insight as to what I have this sentiment.

Ding ding, winner! Though, knowing Fedor it could be a 30second fight.
I'll be watching the pay-per view of 100 in a sports bar. Looking forward to it.

I love the UFC. I was there live when Mir snapped Sylvia's arm. I have been a huge Mir fan ever since. I really hope he wins over Lesnar. I'll go with GSP over Alves, and please can Hendo KTFO Bisping. That guy is a first class pos.

I'm looking forward to it too. Yeah, Wesley, that's THE Mark "The Hammer" Coleman . . . he is now fighting as a 205lber. I watched a little of the weigh-in and he looked horrible, I seriously thought he was gonna pass out. It looked to me like he was about 240 this morning and spent the day popping X-lax in a sauna, lol . . . I always liked Coleman though, but I am gonna pick Bonner to beat him tomorrow. Coleman needs to rehydrate himself, but he seriously looked F-ed up at the weigh-in, like he had to cut a lot more than water to make weight, he looked like someone who spent the last 10 years stranded on a desert island.
Mir looked a VERY lean 245 with all his abs showing. For the first time I can remember he looked like he was in shape to fight rather in shape to do a powerlifting meet, lol. Lesnar made 265 on the nose, he looked flat, but healthy and not too drained and dehydrated. He'll blow up to 285-290 by fight time and look freaky tomorrow night I'm sure. I am gonna have to be the odd ball and pick Lesnar. I am sure he's worked on his submission defense over the last year and a half and he'll be ready. Mir is a terrible fight for a guy inexperienced in MMA and submissions and Lesnar just wasn't ready for a guy like that the first time . . . I think this will be a different story. But, then again, a guy like Mir is so dangerous with submissions that you can never say you'd be surprised if he won. I think Brock will be ready this time around, and I do think he is a great athlete. The Couture fight earned him more respect than he'd been getting, but Couture was past his prime and his style mirrors Lesnar's, except he is older, slower, and smaller, so Lesnar still has his critics, a win over Mir would give him some much deserved respect. Also, as a side note, I know they are laying it on for the build-up, but that little Lesnar-Mir pissing match kind of rubbed me the wrong way . . . it was WWE-like, but with worse acting if you can believe that.
I'm gonna pick GSP too . . . He's the man right now and Alves isn't the guy who is gonna stop him. Not much more to say about that.

Mir over Lesnar - hopefully. Would love to see a freaky submission from Frank.
Alves KO over GSP - Alves is a great striker, plus he didn't have trouble making weight. GSP could win if he gets the takedowns and smothers Alves, but that would be boring.
Henderson KO Bisping - Used to like Mike, but his stint on TUF made him look like a jackass.
Bonnar over Coleman - unless the Hammer falls on Bonnar and smothers him for 3 rounds. Headbutts are illegal now....
Thiago over Fitch - would be a big upset. War Paulo! get all BOPE on him like he is a Favela drug slinger...
Akiyama over Belcher - Aki has too much for Alan. Too much skill, too much grease.
Miller over Danzig - Vegans should not be fighters or strength athletes. Plus - Its Miller time! Also - Danzig sucks since he left the Misfits.
Jon Jones over O'Brien by highlite reel footage combo slam/submission/KO.
Stun Gun Kim over Grant - yawn. Bathroom break if this airs.
Dollaway over Lawlor - though Smitty Diesel trained Lawlor, Dollaway has too much wrestling and submission savvy. Peruvian necktie?
Grice over Gugerty - unless he changes his name to Giggity.
Should be some good fights.

I think I HATE MAC TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LUCKY!!!!
I'm with you guys on the pics . I hope Mir DESTROYS Lesnar, I'm sure Brock is ready and has worked on his ground game this year but you cant overlook the fact that Mir is all around better fighter than Lesnar could ever hope to be IMO hands down. Brock needs to go back to WWE. JSP no contest I like Alves but JSP is the man and you cant go wrong rootin for the hometwon lol Henderson and Bisping will be interesting I dont really have a pick on that one .. I hope Henderson wins though.... Dollaway (another home town pick) but I am stuck at work we're gonna get a friend to video it on a phone and send it to us lol

Don't hate!!! Just the benefit of living in Vegas and knowing the right people! LOL!!! Anyway, why does Lesnar need to go back to the WWE? I don't understand the hatred towards Brock. Sure he was given a quick route to the championship, but there is no denying the man has the ability to be a force in MMA.

Just watched the weigh inns online and Lesnar looks tiny, not joking...:IMHO:
Tony Moses
07-11-2009, 01:37 PM
Jay, he did look small for Lesnar, you're absolutely right . . . but he was flat because he has to seriously dehydrate to make 265, his normal walking around weight is high-280s - 290. In the past couple fights he looked flat at weigh-ins, then hydrated correctly and blew up at fight time. Did you see Marc Coleman?? That wasn't a pretty sight!
I agree with Mac, I don't understand the hate for Lesnar. So what if he made a little money in the WWE? He was in the WWE for a couple years, people forget that he's been involved with MMA for probably as long as his WWE stint . . . but more importantly, he spent 20-something years of his life in amateur wrestling. Maybe he got pushed along faster than the average Joe would have because the PPV buys were there, but he's no Kimbo Slice for God's sake, lol. He got a title match quick, but he still beat the champ, nobody handed him a title. He destroyed Heath Herring, he destroyed Couture, and despite all the criticism he took, he was destroying Mir the first time out and Mir was going to lose by KO if they didn't get stood up for Lesnar hitting him in the back of the head. Mir is better at submissions for sure, but that's one dimension. In terms of overall skill on the ground and with striking, plus quickness, power, and strength, and overall athleticism, I can't see how Mir is a better overall fighter. Mir is still dangerous because he can catch anybody at any time, but the odds of that happening now are lower than the first time out. Mir is a great submission fighter, but that and experience (in MMA) are his only advantages . . . normally he has a plus because he is quick and agile for a 250lber, but Lesnar is heavier, quicker, and more agile.

Huh, Mir was going to lose. Must be nice to have that crystal ball. Mir won and that's the end of that. Now we'll wait and see who wins tonight unless your crystal ball has already told you.

My crystal ball says either Lesnar or Mir is gonna win, unless it's a no contest, lol, and that you can count on.
I'm not trying to rub anyone the wrong way, man. I was just talking about the first fight. The way I saw it, Lesnar was laying on a beating before they got stood up by the ref, it was a fair call and they should've been stood up, but if they weren't, you don't need a crystal ball to tell you how that was gonna turn out. With a guy like Mir, it's tough to ever give anyone more than a 50% chance because he's so dangerous with submissions, I was really just saying it's not a case of Lesnar being an overmatched pro wrestler who doesn't belong in the octagon. I'm still picking Lesnar, unless he gets submitted.
Enjoy the fights, it looks like a great card all around.

I just got done watching the card. Dan Henderson is an ANIMAL . . .I thought the shot when Bisping was out cold was totally uncalled for, but Henderson is a beast.
GSP is the man, and Alves didn't quit despite getting outclassed at this point in his career. He has a motor and he showed a lot. If you didn't know better, you'd have thought this was a 205lb bout . . . I know they both hydrated from weigh-ins, but these were the freaking biggest "170lbers" I have ever seen, lol.
Proper hydration can bring the dead back to life because Marc Coleman beat Stephan Bonner by dec. This was cut from the PPV, but I guess Coleman still has a few more in him.
Lesnar completely demolished Mir. Except for a pretty badass knee he landed on Lesnar in the 2nd round, Mir got knocked into another time zone. Lesnar pretty much took him down at will and then landed blows at will. Mir came off as a class act afterward, he made no excuses. The crowd was booing Lesnar big time after the fight and he played right into it with them. I thought Lesnar was impressive as hell . . . I said it earlier in this thread, but I can't understand why fans don't like him and think he's an unskilled sideshow . . . it totally blows my mind why he's so disliked. Like him or not, I hope people see he's legit, I mean come on, he was in the WWE for a couple years, lol, he was a legit competitor way before that and he's a legit competitor now.
I enjoyed the card though, I'm looking forward to seeing what's next for GSP . . . he hinted at bumping up a weight class.

lesnar is working the same image they gave him in the WWE and frankly I LIKE IT! his after fight interview was FREAKING AWSOME! no sponser pushing nothing just pure i won i am the man out of my way:LOL: Kinda sounded scripted like he thought it up ahead of time, but who cares best post fight interview ever!
Best knockout i seen in the UFC so far by dan henderson! Bsissssyber was out before he even knew he got hit! The after punch i understood sometimes they are knocked out then wake up from the ground hitting them so you pounce on them to finish it off, so i see that could of gone either way.
GSP fight was boring once you knew who was going win, the other fights sucked. looked like some great in person only fights! that mat was soaked red before some of the big fights even happened lol!

Man, really enjoyed that. Sat in a sports bar with 150 people watching on 2 big screens with a couple of strongmen. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
The Hendo-Bisping fight was awesome. The knockout and subsequent replays were met with the bar all going.... OOOOOOH.... AAAAAA OWWWWW. I think Hendo committed to that punch on the ground, but he totally would have realised that Bisping was GONE.
Really enjoyed GSP vs A fight. Props to Alves for never giving up and showing great defence on his back. That fight was like watching Tiger Woods at his peak, or Federer destroying the opposition. You already know the outcome, but it's still masterful. GSP said he was fighting at 185. He doesn't look very dry, doubt gaining weight would do anything for him.
Let's just say, Brock did what he had to do. Kept Mir in close. I still thought Mir would take it in the 2nd, those 1st round punches did minimal damage, hence the smiling. But when he got put up on the cage, can't blame him. Brock dominated, and while it wasn't really exciting, he was impressive and won. That speech after was pretty clever, though not classy, lol!

I don't think the UFC has a grip what a HUGE difference Lesnar's kind of strength makes. They always say he's big and strong, but I think they are comparing apples and oranges. Two 205 pounders may have strength differences, but you don't run into huge disparity. When a man is almost 50 pounds heavier, that disparity widens to a point that it can nullify great technique. Mir is an incredible ground fighter, one of the best on the planet, yet a fighter with 5 fights got INSIDE his guard and mauled him. Mir is a much improved striker, but a flying knee right on the money couldn't drop him. I think Mir may be reconsidering his comments about the short draw on Lesnar's punches, or he has a bad ass 8 year old sister.
