For those of you who do not know, I am a GED Instructor in one of the prisons here in Washington state. Recently the inmates have started putting together PL meets that the inmates can prepare for and compete in. They had their first contest last month and are planning another one October 24. The Superintendent and other prison staff seem to be pretty excited about this new development as it is a motivator for the inmates to stay out of trouble. Anyway, any kind of safety equipment in the prison is pretty lacking. So, if you have anything like old wraps, belts, sleeves, collars, whatever you can think of, that you would be willing to donate to the prison rec program to encourage safe but competitive lifting, please please please let me know!!! Just sent me a pm when you can. I, along with everyone involved in this PL venture, would very much appreciate your equipment donations.

Thank you!

As a law enforcement officer who deals with some of these guys AFTER they leave prison, I'll keep my opinion on lifting in prison to myself.....

How do we get the wraps and such to you?

I second Chris's comments!

I know exactly where he is coming from.

Except that by saying "I'll keep my opinion to myself," he's really not. Let's not derail the thread here

Clearly we can debate about lifting in prisons, however Kristyn is searching for gear for her program. Leave it at that. If you can help, then help.

I do applaud her for trying to help out. That's more then most people would do, including alot of corrections officers.

Kristyn, I do have a ton of old college books I would be willing to donate. Not sure if they would help with the GED program, but the offer is there if ya like.

I have an old belt I don't need, but there are two problems.

One is that it's in Toronto and I live in Montreal, so I won't be able to get it for a few weeks or whenever I go back.

The other is that I'm not sure how to get it from Toronto to Washington. How much would that cost, and would it be worth it?

Sorry I wasn't having a go at Kristyn. Doing what she does cant be easy and I admire her for doing it.

I can see how it would be good for the inmates to have something to focus on and work for and congratulate her for trying it.

Good luck with it.

Just out of interest, any inmates putting up good figures?

Chris, I would love to take your old books off of your hands! Even if we can't use them in the GED program, I'm sure the library would like to have them. I will pm you my address a bit later so you can send them along whenever. Thank you very much!

Well Alex, whenever you might be able to send the belt, that would be great! There will be more PL meets after this one in October and I'm sure the guys would accept the belt just about whenever they could get it. But I don't know how much it will cost to ship and whether that cost is worth it to you. I say definitely it's worth it. But I'm probably a bit biased, ;) Just let me know what you decide. Thank you!
