Wow. Impressive feat. One of the most accomplished strongmen of the era.
I know a lot of people here were rooting for Derek, but there's no shame losing to the best.
How much did he weigh?

Paul,
OMG I can't believe you missed one! He also set a new record at IFSA worlds in Korea with the deadlift. It was 749 for 11 reps. LOL

Z is the man. You can't really argue that. But, what you also can't argue is that MP is the man... 4-5 months post bicep surgery and pushing z all the way until the last event. I am not sure the huge debate is settled just yet. Instead of debating I'll just say props to both of them!

Paul and Nick, I must add 2 WR established at 2008 Fortissimus and 4 more at 2009 Fortissimus , that one including the 925-lb Super Yoke over 30 meters in 18 secs, the Overhead total for two-arm and one-arm lifts, the overall one-arm lift total ( including a 225-lb) in 37,8 secs and the overall weight in a two-day ( 10 events ) competition with 36 550 lbs «9 16 614 kg).
Between 2004 and 2008, Savickas broke 8 times the Log WR. An in 2008 he was the co-holder of the One-Arm Circus Dumbbell Lift ( shared then with Derek Poundstone) with 9 reps.
All in all, counting the WR he set ( either broken since as was the Circus Dumbbell or still held), big Z was credited with 25 WR.

agreed, dont think the debate is settled yet, but as you said, definitely a hard earned WSM title for Z. we'll see what the future holds and wether or not mariusz will come back to challenge him.

Of course it's not settled. Marius lost to Pfister and that also came down to the last event. Marius will come back next year, bigger and stronger.

I don't think anyone does!! I just think alot of people stuck with their competitor and rode it out, either way. I have full respect for everyone having one athlete they want to win, and supporting and building them up, even if it's not my choice and I disagree!

Can you show me one example of people hating or doubting Savickas? I can see plenty of people doing the same to Mariusz (for a variet of reasons), but as far as I can see nobody ever hated or doubted Big Z.

That's because the general consensus across the internet is that ABS=CONDITIONING and FAT=SLOW AND OUT OF SHAPE. But those are the assumptions made by people who know very little, and usually have very little skill themselves.

I agree. Probably has to do with Z being extremely humble. I wouldn't be if I were what I considered to be the strongest man ever on record.
Mariusz isn't bad (just compare him to 75% of NFL WR's), but how could anyone hate Z unless it was just because you're a huge fan of Pudz or something?

HAHA awesome! Does anyone know what the patches on Z's shins are? maybe a shin splint remedy? I imagine moving as fast as he does at his weight must have its toll.

how anyone can say he is unconditioned is beyound me, he has visible quad seperation, His arms for a almost 400lb man are solid, and I woudl almost bet his back looks similar to poundstones or pudz without the V taper to the waist. For how heavy as he is, he is certainly not a mark henry, He is equivilant to a very athletic O lineman or d-lineman. But bigger and stronger.

Likely grazes from the knurling during deadlifting. Oly lifters usually do the same.

I think her name is Zoe Salmon.
Brandon I've always been surprised at how Zydrunas' back lacks some thickness, especially middle back (of course, traps are huge and maxi strong).
I can bet my house on that he doesn't have Mariusz' or Derek's back. Just look at pics of him taken from his side and you'll see what I mean.
Watching the car deadlift videos: Terry did all of his reps but one in 27 seconds!
I hope it was the best way for him, or else......he might come with even higher hopes for next year!

As per the other post, the plasters on his legs will be from the bar rubbing against his shins on the deadlift.

FWIW After the competition Mariusz was asked, away from the cameras, about coming back to WSM. He put his finger to his throat and then did a slashing motion. "No more strongman, mixed martial arts now," he said. The word circulating in Malta is that he has a four-fight contract on the table with 100,000 Euros per fight. Sounds a bit bogus to me. And to tell you the truth I don't think Pud was very sportsmanlike after his loss--did his best to upstage Z. When it's broadcast I think you'll agree.

Zydrunas' fiance's name is Jurgita Vorobjovaite and she is also Litunanian. And yes she is quite pretty.
Once you stand very close to big Z you really get to learn about width and tickness of a human body.

That said, with a good sense of humor, I would guess that Z has a 60-inch + chest . Not to mention shoulder girth.

The first thing that he did when he realised that Z had taken him on the stones was to raise Z's hand. In terms of the podium, perhaps Mariusz was looking for a little attention, perhaps not, and it could be construed as unsportsmanlike. Or you might be looking for something that wasn't really there. It's a matter of perception I guess.

For those of us just trying to keep up, what did Mariusz do that could be construed as trying to upstage Zydrunas?

Well he could say more than five words in a row, that would certainly do the trick. Z is just about the quietest pro there is.
