This hit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwfFxr0zI-A) is one of the worst I have ever seen. Holy moly.

Completely uncalled for too, refs made the right call on ejecting him for it.

Whoa.. refs did a good job on stopping what could of been a big fight after that.
But holy.. that was a big hit. Don't know what was going through Dante Wesleys head when he did that, probably was just in the zone and ready to make the hit and made abig mistake.
Getting kicked out of the game was a good call, but alot of people are saying he should get a year suspension and more punishment, and I personally think that is too much. Hate to see someones career be interrupted by a mistake like this.

I personally think he should get suspended for at least the rest of the season and a huge fine! that was totally uncalled for..i understand if you are "in the zone" but he is a professional athlete...he should be able to control his actions for the most part..at least wait till he catches the ball then hit him..totally uncalled for!

I completely agree with the above post as well as the commentary about what an excellent job the officials did keeping that from escalating in to a brawl.
As for the hit, it was clearly uncalled for. The only thing that might save him is that it wasn't helmet-to-helmet. Today will not be a good day for Dante Wesley.

Man that was completely out of line...That hit could have ended Smith's career, Dante Wesley deserves whatever the league imposes on him.

yah....that had career ending (or worse) written all over it. defintely a severe penalty is due, make another example out of him

The first link is bad, but I saw the video and I agree, that hit was totally uncalled for. I had always been taught that if a guy signalled for a fair catch, you don't touch him as he's completely vulnerable, plus it's a penalty.
All I can say is, Dante Wesley better watch his ass the next time he plays Tampa Bay.

maybe i just not seeing it but when was his hand in the air waving for the fair catch. I see him run to the ball watching it down and bam. Although a hard hit, i cant see where its out of line if he never waved it off. Unless there is some new automatic fair catch rule in the NFL. I cant seee him wave it off.

ok i think i see it, he kind of half asses a wave at the start of the video as he is running to the ball. Dont want to get hit keep the hand waving all the way to the ball. Fair catch 101

Brandon, he wasn't supposed to hit until he made contact with the ball.

That's not fair catch 101, it's wrong. The punting team has to give the returner a 1 yard radius until he receives the ball. It would be understandable if Wesley was there jsut a micro second before the ball, but it wasnt even close.

yah that ball was like 50' ft in the air when the receiver got hit, no excuse....wesley should face some severe fines and IMO be done for at least half the season....could have paralyzed the guy
