I'm pretty sure Kevin Nee never tried to go LW pro..ie his True Life documentary when he did the HW Pro Am weighing around 250...The whole documentary was about him trying to gain as much weight as possible and earn his HW card

Not only did he try to go LW pro, he did go LW pro. He was from the first crop of LW pros in 2004 (I believe was the year). Won his Card in California. Mark Wecter won, Knee was 2nd. Rusty Kier and scott Brengal also went pro at this show. The first year, the top 4 in any plat+ contest earned their card.

ET is correct, Kevin competed in the first LW pro nats that were held in Arlington, Willie Wessels won that comp.

So it sounds like Nee was 19 and the youngest guy. Any idea the oldest guy to win a pro card?

Max Pippa also won his at 19. Not sure on oldest. I think there are a few that got there in their mid 30s. I would think Willie got his when he was around 38?

Mike Gill won the Northeast Beast last year and earned his pro card at 36 years old (I believe).

Nick Best won his card in 2005 in Utah. Not sure how old he is, but IIRC he is at least 40 right now? That would put him at 36 when he got his card. I think Steve Mac was about that age as well when he turned pro.

--No 'Pro Cards'in the old days but Whit Baskin was invited to WSM in 1998 at age 20 and turned it down--went to WSM when he was 21 in 1999-
IMO Whit was one of top 5 American Strong Men from 1998 until 2000 when tragic car accident ended his career--
If you don't remember him-- had incredible static strength as well as speed and Mobility--usually competed at 250 to 265lbs-(although as powerlifter competed at 308)-"the Giant Killer";)
Very exciting strongman to Watch--heck of a display of pain tolerance and endurance in WSM ,Malta in 1999 when he defeated everybody in the deadlift hold for time-great stone loader also

So out of curiousity, what does everything think the average age is when someone gets their pro card? 27-30?

I think it was 36 years and 7 months for me too, so I guess that puts Nick and I in a tie. We'll have to get right down to the number of days to find out.
