Scott, what are grappler deads?
Good luck to the both of you in reaching your goals.
Scott Porter
01-26-2006, 12:21 PM
You should be able to find a description of grappler deadlifts at EliteFTS.
But basically you put two bars parallel into a corner, load up the ends on each one, stand between the bars and grip just behind the sleeve and pull up and back.
Grappler deads really hit the upper back and also teach you how to pull back.

how come brad and other crew members don't post with you guys on this forum?
Scott Porter
01-31-2006, 12:09 PM
Kara, I know Brad checks this forum and I told him we started a training log. I'll tell him YOU were asking about him and I'm sure he'll be ecstatic.
Ryan Bakke has his own log. Kevin's training is top secret. Don't know about anyone else.
-----------------------
On a side note, I think I have a badly strained calf muscle. It hasn't felt right for a week now. Dorsi and plantar flexion are both painful. And I have a basketball game tonight, so might have to take it easy.
My overall training program is likely to change soon. I have no contest to train for since I decided against the upcoming Boston show for a multitude of reasons. The earliest I will compete again will be nationals. It's time to train for my upcoming fire academy in two months. I'm going to come in lean, strong and conditioned.
Kara M

I know its hard to keep up a training log... or it is for me atleast so that is cool that you guys log it all in one thread. So then you have to keep it up for the other person.
I like the AZ training crew ;)

FF academey training day.
I have come to the conclusion that strongman needs to take a backseat as my ass is out of shape when it comes to my anaerobic threshold and overall work capacity. I was sucking wind during the skills course. I'll start adding in some GPP and specific conditioning during the week so the academy doesn't kick my ass too much come April.

Nice Log PR scott. I havent clean and press each rep for a while i need to get back into doing that.
Brad and I started doing C&P every rep. I like it mostly for conditioning and building my wind. Also, I think I'm good for 13-15 press reps with 220 (your lucky I didn't do AZ!!) but my clean is not up to par with my press.
I think I can do 9 C&P reps with 220 on the log in a 75 sec time limit but would like to build that up to 12 reps.
Also, Brad set a PR on log today too! It was a good day.
Brad Schofield

Last time i did clean and press on log was at teen nationals it was 200lbs 60sec's and i did 11reps (only cause i ran out of time i wasnt winded at all). I can get prolly 9-11 reps with 220 with C&P each rep. It doesnt make me any more tired really.
And ya better do more then one flip, ya dream about gettin the tire and then ya dont even love it like you should! :EP: shame on you. Shameth the to helleth...hahaha
PR!!!! 240x1 awsome! Now if ya did log more like i tell ya to brad and stop playing with your neck harness... haha jk. We just setting tons of PR! how sweet is that!

WEd 2-15-06 Events
Today was a pretty good day for me, I was happy with certain things. I started my training for the Pro-am Utah's strongest man on june 9th. Competeing as a LW.
Started out with farmers
I have to do a 600lb frame carry for 40feet, Tonight i did 290 farmers for 20-25feet. Which made me quite happy as that was pretty close for having 3months to left to train.
Then i moved onto Tire flip truck pull medly, Substituted with our fancy tire sled
Comp weight is 700tire to a hummer pull both 50feet
6flips with the 750 to a 60-80foot drag. Next time i will hook up my truck.
Then stones, comp weight is
250-300-300-360-360 to a 54inch
I did 315x2 (very crappy like) to a 52inch. Need lots of work to load that 360.
all in all i got a hell of alot of work ahead of me, But everything is in reach. So as long as i dont slack off, Im good to go!

Thursday 2-16-05
Deadlift, Squats
Let me say i am going to switch my farmers stones and medly to sundays and do log and stuff on wed.. Mxing what i did yesterday with today = not a good idea.
Deadlifts
225 1x10
315 1x10
405 1x10
455 4x4 Working on speed. 450 is the first weight of the Deadlift medley so i want to make sure i can get the 450-500 with speed and hopefully the 550. then give it all to the 600
squats
225 1x10
225 4x20 (workin on explosive power from the legs)
Hack squats machine
225 1x10
275 1x10
315 1x10

woops forgot bout this oh well heres what i did today
2-23-06
Squats
225x10
315x8
315x8
315x8
225x20
225x20
225x12 (3sets of 20reppers is to many! haha)
Deadlift medley Practice
Wanted to see where I stand on this event for training.
have to do 450-500-550-600
Today after my squat workout i did
450-500-550(this one was ugly) Only rest inbetween was me putting the 25's on each side to up the weight. I was pretty beat after squats, and had no belts for this. 600 is still going be hard as hell to get when im fresh with belts. But hey thats what strongman is all about!
Scott Porter
02-23-2006, 08:12 PM
Looks like the deadlift is getting up there. What number event is it? If it's after the frame carry and also the tire flip, I'd imagine getting all four will prove to be difficult for a lot of the amateur LW's.
Brandon Campbell
02-23-2006, 09:53 PM
The deadlift medley on the entry form right now is the second event right after the max log. So i should be fairly fresh. i estimate from todays performence that my DL is around 580-600, My form was really sucky on the 500-550 From going fast. With some belts and Practicing gettin my form going that fast down i should do well. Like i said its goin be painful. I was spent after the first three! I think i will take a nice break from heavy squats and Deadlifts next week. My body is feeling it.

Nothing to add except I would like to remind Brad and Brandon...
You guys still haven't caught my 330 stone load to a 56" box.
I still have second most flips with the 925 tire, 6.
I have done 315 farmers for 62 ft.
I still have done more 220 log clean & press each rep than Brandon, 8.
Okay, so there's some motivation for you. You guys better surpass those marks while I take time off. I'm counting on it.

today was fun, Kevin and I hit some nice Pr's on clean and press. I did 295. Kevin Made a big jump in his and finally got passed his mental block, Threw up 355 like it was nothing! I wouldnt be surprised if we added another 10-20lbs to them soon.

03-07-2006, 12:09 AM
all in all it was a pretty crappy workout. did some log for reps. and tried some lock-outs. this was the first time that scott and i have tried these. turns out the biggest diff between scotts press and mine is core strength. scott held up 405 for about 10 seconds and i did the same with 275. it wasnt so much that it was hard to get off the pins as it was stabalizing under the bar. i guess i need to do some one handed press on a stability board like scott does. but on a brighter note, scotts new idea of having a feat of strength set at the end of each workout was a great idea. mainly because i beat him in pinch grip holds for time. :EB:
Brad Schofield
03-07-2006, 07:25 PM
TRAP BAR DEADS!! worked up to a 3 rep max, which was 475. scott did 3-4 sets of 5 w 475. dont know what the deal was with my box squats. 315+90 chain for 3, then one. scott hit 2-3 sets of ten. and he didnt let me hear the end of it. feat of strength- i still reign supreme!! hangs for time with 2 towels wrapped around a bar. i dont think scotts used to losing cuz hes kind of a poor sport.HAHAHA!!
Scott Porter
03-07-2006, 08:16 PM
Me: I'll bet you I win the next feat of strength.
You: I don't bet anymore.
Me: Oh c'mon! Okay, I'll bet I can get you betting by the end of the day.
You: Nope. Not gonna do it.
Me: I'll give you 2 to 1 odds.
You: Nope.
Me: 3 to 1.
You: thinking..... YOU'RE ON!
Me: I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I will.
You: No, no, not uh.

Felt like a PR day today...and it was.
Log Press
-clean once
-220 x 11 - easy, had a few more in me
-240 x 9 PR!! - did it in about 30 secs, think i was good for 2 more if i was working on a 60 sec time limit
Yesterday did some farmers with 290 for 75 ft, fast and easy. Not a PR, but I rarely do farmers these days.
Tentative end of year goals...
Log Press - 260 x 10, 240 x 10 c&p, 320 max
Farmers - move faster with bigger weights :D
Tire Flip - 925 x 10, 750 x 20
Husafell - 400 ft.
Stones - 375 to 48", 330 to 60", 280 to 54" x 10
Deadlift - 650 from floor with just a belt
I am confident I will nail all these. Hopefully before nationals.

iso-deadlifts make me want to puke and die!
did 6 second iso-deads at the bottom rack position x6. then at the next pin-hole up x6. followed those with 9 sets of 275 deficit deads with doubled mini bands to work on speed. then just a couple of light sets of box squats-275x8 and 225x12, da ya know for da pump. and nghr's and pull-thrus. FEAT OF STRENGTH!! beat scott again(of course). one handed hanging holds for time. just barely won. he keeps making excuses about why he didnt win"i kept spinning around" :N:

the AZ CREW is a bunch of animals.....raving lunatics really! i once went out to train with these guys and scott (the head of this 3 ring circus) has them all drinking diesel fuel and and......and rubbing goats blood all over their bodies before stones.
"THE KEVING NEE" has a throne with side handles so when he rests and uses the 12in log as a toothpick, we must carry him to the next event station then massage his feet.....and he has terrible feet!
scott also recently had his backyard swimming pool filled with milk....whole raw milk....organic even....and i arrived to find the nordic Brandon jumping off the roof naked into the pool screaming, "MILK POWER!" then towel himself off and hit a set (nude) and cannonball right back into the frothy pool
the neighbors have dishes and plates falling out of their china cabinets and often have their family dinners disturbed by falling tires/logs/stones/ and the gutteral screams made by the 211lb schofield when he juggles the 370 stone. the police are called but they are afraid...and peel out of the cul-de-sac once they realize his ferocity.
these guys are sick!
ps. sorry i missed ya again, but this kid of mine is comming soon and if i aint in my gym, i am at the doctor!

we are the last group in the journals section so i thought id bump it up. we havent been posting our sessions, but thats cuz they are top secret. i will say that we just recieved our conans wheel, viking press, appolons axle and a new log . we will also be obtaining a shiny new hussafell stone, so very soon we might even get sorta strong. everybody needs to watch out for the az crew. that includes you, team bigsac!!!
Brad,
Team Big Sac sent the scout team (me and Marilyn) to AZ last time. Next time we will send in the 'A' Team, Mick, Hamish, Andrew, Chris, Matt (who spied on the AZ boys for us a couple of months back), and...we have another guy interested in coming out and training with us. All we need now is a stud pro like you guys!! Oh, yeah, and some strength and technique too
Our motto is: (well, our real motto is WWDHD, what would Dan Harrison do?), but our other one is: We will travel anywhere, anytime, to take an ass kicking, as long as there is steak and cake afterwards!!
Are you really 211 lbs?? I thought you had to drop a bunch of weight before the ACME roadhouse contest?? Or did Ryan mean 231?
If Scott isn't pro by then, Mick and I might see him at the PFM nationals (not sure if we are going yet), so the AZ crew can lay another whooping on the Big Sac guys.
On a side note, I saw somewhere that there might be another contest in AZ coming up, any word on that??
Team Big Sac is trying to get our average age down, but it's not working. We picked up Chris (22) and Matt (20) who you met, but then we picked up and over 40 and the new guy that might come out is 39. So....our excuse is: we are old and fat. Maybe we need to move near AZ State, all those young co-eds would force us to get in shape. But then....they would just ruing it by calling us "sir" all the time. Right now Team Big Sac looks like: 38, 38, 37, 25, 22, 20, sometimes 40, woman:ageless. Shoot, in a couple of years we'll have a Master's Team, :M:
Sorry to ramble. Hope to see Team AZ soon. Keep up the good work, you guys are all looking strong.

I'm planning on PFM nationals as my first contest back. Brandon is trying to talk me into doing Big Tony's Pro/Am in August but I don't feel I'll be ready by then. I'm just finishing up the academy and haven't trained heavy for the last 3 months, although strangely enough some of my lifts/events have gone up or stayed the same.
On a side note, I saw somewhere that there might be another contest in AZ coming up, any word on that??

The plan is for a winter contest, mid November to early December area. We are talking about having a 2 day contest, but I want to make sure I can get a lot of out of state people again. You'll see some different events than the last AZ contest and hopefully have an even better experience. The venue we get will determine the events ultimately as well as the number of athletes we can accept. As before, we'll try to have "race" events and might even run multiple events at a time using different divisions. There will be an under 200 class as well, although I know Mark can easily compete with the 231's.
See you soon!

Scott,
You should totally do Big Tony's. It is going to be a GREAT show!!!! Heck, you are the reason I started lifting "heavy" in the first place, and now I am going to compete in that show. (It's not too late to book the same flight as Brandon) Thanks again by the way for your help on getting me started with the bigger lifting!!!!

Really good day training events for everyone.
Brandon did some speed farmers walks with 250 looked really fast on his first set. Then he did some conan's with me but lost to me by probably only a few steps so I retained my Conans Champion status...for now. :D
I started out with Conans and set a PR with 800 lbs. and managed 2 laps...or about 130 ft. This was a 50 lb. PR plus an additional half lap. I feel I can get a little more weight and distance next time.
We then moved on to car deadlift simulation, 15" starting height parallel grip handles. I did 3 sets total. First set was 650 lbs. and did 10 reps. Then went to 800 and did 8 reps. Then loaded up for 1000+ lbs. and did 5 reps. We had 870 in just plates. Brandon did the first set of 700 and the last set he added 40 more lbs. than my final set and did a double looking really strong. I was going to try it but ripped a big callous on my last set and had no grip power.
I think we both feel a little more confident about the car deadlift in Wisconsin. :D
Next EVENT day....
Husafell Carry --> for pain tolerance ;)
Yoke Walk
and maybe some drag after yoke for some conditioning.

that's a good PR. if you get 7-8 you are a baller. now if only you can get every other event as good as your tire and stones you'd be a force.

Of course it was a shot at you Dan...all in good fun right? It's not like you haven't take a jab at me before.
But you really should refrain from talking trash to me about not competing often enough if your dad helps you out with the money to compete all the time. It really is pretty expensive to fly somewhere and compete, and not everyone has the financial means to do so, though they might want to.
In regard to saying it to your face, I'm not the type of guy to just go up to someone and talk shit for no real reason. If you say something to me, I'll fire back, but I don't care enough to start something we both know will accomplish nothing.

Well you care enough to start firestorms with me on here, why not in person? Oh wait, you would get clocked...that's why. Anyone else here would take a swing too if you said the same crap to their faces.
I only took jabs at you because you started belittling my accomplishments on that one thread i deleted a few weeks ago. Remember that one? Remember how everyone else jumped on yoru ass about it? Do you love starting fights on message boards? Don't you know how many people on here you've pissed off already? Don't you know half the people here hate you? I didn't start butting into YOUR threads and saying bad things. Of course you wouldn't say it to my face because I or anyone else would want to take a swing at you.
Keep your jabs to yourself. I don't need them. I will cease fire when you do, I promise. Seriously, I am not trying to instigate stuff, whereas you are.
Expensive? It's all relative. It's not expensive to me because I save my money and prioritize. My pops has bought my last few tickets, but when I was making 9 bucks an hour and for the first 7 or 8 shows, i paid for everything out of my own pocket. I do realize you have a son to support too, which is a burden I do not share, so I DO have extra money that i wouldn't if I had a boy too, which makes travelling easier.
I apologize for hijacking the training thread, I won't do it again.

If you actually think what we said back and forth to each other is worth getting in a fight for in real life, then I feel bad for you. I have pretty thick skin and zero temper so you'd really have to piss me off in person for me to want throw some bows. I can NOT like you and still be able to be around you without wanting to fight believe it or not. But like I said, if you said something to me I wouldn't hesitate to give you my opinion, even if it meant you were going to retaliate with swinging punches. Assuming you hit me, you go to jail and I get money. So I have no problem with that. :D
I remember belittling your accomplishments AFTER you called me gay a few times. Maybe you forgot that, but you fired first and I fired back.
As far as others not liking me...I'd let others speak for themselves although I know I've had a few arguments with some people, I wouldn't say half the people on here. Hardly anyone on this forum knows me in person and for those that don't like my internet persona, I could care less. I'm not trying to win the most liked forum guy award. I speak my mind, you don't have to like it.
The point I was making is that it is hypocritical to call someone out for not competing enough when you don't pay for your own contests. You haven't really even acknowledged that everyone doesn't have the financial means to compete. I wasn't really trying to hate, just bring up the irony. It's a good thing your parents help you out, mine do too in other areas.
Anyway, if you want to discuss further, PM me.

I thought about it and I don't agree that everyone would want to "clock" me or fight if I said what I said to their faces.
Let's see...
I brought up your contest performances after you called me gay for saying you should treat people nice...twice. You're going to punch me for that?
I called you hypocritical. If the conversation happened b/t us about how come I don't compete often and you do, I would definitely bring it up that your dad pays for you. You're going to punch me for saying that?
I disagreed with the weight of the frame (as did many others) saying there is no way that it was 700. Who's going to punch me for that one?
:BB:
Alright I'm done with that back to training...
did some speed log today working up to 230 for easy fast doubles. brandon then lies through his teeth saying he did 250 for 8 fast once before. nobody remember this but him. you better hope that shoulder heals brandong, i'm coming after you on LOG!

HAHA i lie? i did it the week before i hurt my shoulder/back thang!
I remember it like it was 2 weeks ago cause it was LOL. it was the day i had you weigh the 12inch log
I did a plate and a 25, for 230. For 8. Then i added a 10 and repped it for a fast 5 with a struggled 3 for 8. All true baby i will do it again when my dam thing heals! HA! I remember cause after that i tried 270 and couldnt do it cause i was so freaking tired from the last two sets! :B:
Doubles mean nothing scooter! I can do 230x2 all day long. heheheh jk

Events today...
Conan's -> set a PR with 7 plates + 25's for 1 lap. Hard pick-up. Brandon was 1 step behind me but I went after him. I remain Conan's champion for now...
Car Deads -> worked up to 960 in plates for a few sets of 3 w/ Brandon on the back, then a set of 5 with just the 960. Brandon did the same and looked really strong. I expect him to tear it up in Wisconsin. Brad was also impressive and did 960 for 3. I tore another callous on this and became very upset.
Stones -> a quick set of 240/280/310 tacky not working....but tried 240/260/280/330 and struggled forever on the 330, forearms sliding tacky not working. Then Brandon reps the 330 for 3 and loads it like a stud. Then Brad loaded the 330 and I felt weak like a child. Of course they didn't do any other stones before it...
Conclusion...I'm dominant at conans wheel, 18" car deads hurts me and I lost a lot of strength on deadlift during time off, and I suck balls w/out working tacky.

Doug, I should know more soon but Brad and I are looking at early December.
I think I might have a great venue lined up and some sponsors so it's coming together. As soon as something is set in stone Brad Schofield or I will make a post will all the details. He is promoting the show with me.
We would definitely like to see all the CA guys and girls out here again. It's growing out here and we have new guys trying it out all the time. I think we can get close to 10-15 athletes from just AZ.

It's not going to matter how many guys you have coming from Arizona, all the trophies are going back to New Mexico anyway! :) Actually, I'll have to check with Bakke to see if there is a warrant out for me in AZ from the last time I was there. hehe
I too was curious when you were going to do your contest. I didn't want mine to conflict with yours, but mine's going to be in late September so it should be fine. Any of you guys thinking about coming out for it?

well me and Kev had a plan i do my squats before he got there then we would do some back, I was late and we arrived at the same time. So i had to do some 20rep squats
did 345-350 for 20reps. It was fantastic. Felt kinda easy next time im going go for 365.
Then did the normal back routine. Nothing special

I love 20 rep squats - yes - if it was easy you should definately put 20lbs more on at least. I puked for 5 minutes straight after I hit 405x21. Training looks good - you should do very well at big tony's!

Mine hurts like hell at lockout. I managed 253 x 5 on the axle but couldn't hold lockouts. Worked on speed with 223 for quick 3's or 4's but still hurt. :EP:
Need to rest up...will try a max log in a week, hopefully it will tell me where I should open up at in Wisconsin.

I wanted to post before Brandon and Brad got a chance. Today was a great day for everyone, lots of PR's. Nobody knows it yet but we are growing strong out in AZ. I'll break it down for ya...
Me-> Didn't do much events today, hit legs in the gym doing 12 sets of squats. Warmed up on yoke and then did 630 for 150 ft. moving fast. Then went up to 730 for 75 ft. with a few drops but made it for a PR. Finished with a set of 10 on the 750 tire for some conditioning and just fun! But mostly to work on my "midnight move"!
Brandon-> I think all he did today was tire flip??? Saving his shoulder which is smart so he skipped yoke and log. But then he got urged into some stones and did the 330 a few times looking strong.
Brad-> Did some strong farmers holds with 270 setting PR's. Then set a PR on 750 tire flip for 12. Did some doubles with the 310 and 330 stones and then went for a series with lighter stones. This guy is a stone freak!
Leebo-> Set a PR with 270 farmers for 40 ft. Did a set of tire flip I think and then finished with stones, loading the 310 like butter to the 50".
Juan-> Set a PR again on tire flip, this time doing the 750 for multiple sets of 5. This kid is only 16 years old and about 215 lbs. Also did 200 on the 12" log I believe.
Eric "The Jett" -> A monster of an 18 year old going into college at 6'5 and 285 he is a large sum' bitch. He did a little of everything, sets of 2-3 on the log with 230, 75 ft. farmers w/ 270 moving fast, a set of 630 yoke for 75 ft., and finished with stones nailing the 310 to the 50" on his first time. Oh the biggest thing was he did the 750 tire for 21 reps!!!
Danny -> A friend of Eric's, I'm starting to believe they are feeding the kids out in Gilbert, AZ something as everyone that comes from there is HUGE! Another 18 year old at 240 lbs. he is strong. Did 230 log his first time ever, I think he did 200 farmers for 75 ft., 450 on the yoke, a set of 12 on the 750 tire and then puked. Finished and loaded the 310 stone.

it was a great day, YOU LEFT OUT SNACK TIME!!
I brought orange slices and capri suns and we enjoyed them at our designated snack time. Next week its Scotts turn to bring the snacks!
Good ole snack time, next training session 330stonex6 Its possible it is! i did 2 with no tacky then 2 again with a little bit of tacky. so if i use tacky from the get go, i can get a good 4 ;)

07-27-2006, 11:13 PM
sounds like you guys have a lot of talented youth out there. It is great to see the sport catching on with the youngings these days. We had a 200lb 17 year old come down and train with us that hit a 300lb 12 in log and ran with a 600lb yoke - the sport is def on the way to greatness!
Scott Porter
07-27-2006, 11:53 PM
Ryan, now that is a freaky kid!
Brandon, yes thanks for the awesome snacks. Next time bring some freakin rice krispie treats! Haha just kidding! The orange slices gave me extra power for the 730 yoke.
It's never my turn for snacks. I have provided the equipment for you no good rotten kids. I basically built the bridge for you one brick at a time so I deserve some orange slices NOW!!! But seriously, we need to keep up that idea.
We should start a strongman kitty. A kitty is something we use at the firestation to collect $$ for stuff like cable, food items, etc. For us it would be used for tacky, tacky removal, clips, snack time, etc. We could contribute say $2/event day and when we need to order stuff we already have the money.
Discuss.

This is how we work the "kitty" or who pays for what for Team Big Sac:
The old guys with jobs: read Mick and Myself, pay for almost all the crap. Then the young guys come, use the equipment, drink the water, gatorade etc (at least they don't drink our beer that often), slather on tacky like it will lift the stone for them, leave the weights lying around, think the stones get made by themselves, think that Santa Claus just leaves the new plates, bars, whatever, etc etc etc.
I am glad to see its the same all over!!

did soem strict presses, and shoulder raises today, with some tricep work
BHN standing strict 135x10 185x10 225x6 then a 275 1x1 BHN jerk as a test to see if i can do them yet. Felt good nice and fast no pain!
Very light front presses due to shoulder pain 135 2x10 anything thing above 135 hurt.
None of the sets hurt my trap/rhomboid injury. I can finally do BHN jerks with heavy weight again, Still cant do any front push jerk's Without pain. Slowly but surely im getting better. If anything this injury will help me build some awsome strict press power!

Me-> Hit the gym for some reverse band deadlifts and worked up to 585 for 3. Tried 675 but not today. Decided to do some conans since I am the champ, and did 6 plates for 3.5 laps. Finished with some stones and made the most of the tacky situation. 240/280/310 fast, then 240/280/310/330 w/ decent speed but need to get faster for Wisconsin.
Brad-> Hit 545 for a double on reverse band deads. Fooled around the rest of the day, hit a PR on conans doing 6 plates for 2 laps.
Brandon-> Did 960 on car deads plus me sitting on it for 5 reps. Did some stones again, he's a freak. I think he just worked on the 330 for reps doing a couple sets of 2-3 again.
Kevin-> He came back and learned how tacky doesn't work anymore. HA! He got really frustrated w/ the big stones, they abused him like they did to me last week. He had a huge easy 320 log press, did some conans but his calf was bothering him. Everything else he did is top secret!
Kim-> Mostly just checked us strong guys out and pictured us naked probably. Who knows why she really comes out to train. She did do 3 plates on conans fairly easy for her first time, and a set of 5 w/ the 130 stone even though she could do the 170 for 5 I'm sure. This girl is huge and could make a splash if she really wanted to and turn a few heads at nationals. She deadlifted 315 on the axle her very first time deadlifting, has done 450 on the yoke her second time, her press is fairly strong. If she actually tried she could be strong.

EVENTS 8.2.06
Me-> Hit the gym for some box squats w/ bands. Did a lot of speed doubles with 315 and averages (220 top / 70 bottom) then worked up to 405 for a single. Finished with some GHR's 4 sets of 8. Then I talked to a MILF who burns a hole through me everytime I'm there, but probably b/c we look like idiots bringing in logs and crap every workout.
Me-> Farmers 290 x 75 ft. fast. Then 300 x 75 ft. fast. Then missed 340 on the pick. Did a set or two of drags.
Brad-> Same as me in the gym, I think he hit 315 for a single w/ bands on the box squat. Farmers 250 x ? Then worked on grip holds with 250.
Brandon-> Ran his mouth about how he could do 290. Then took it for about 10 ft. He did look fast with 250 though. Did some husafell carries for 200 ft. or so.
Eric "the Jett"-> Attempted a PR on farmers with 290 and missed the pick. Then refocused and came back minutes later and took it about 20 ft. The teenage phenom then tried a PR on log w/ 260. Clearly this guy isn't afraid of heavy weights. Also did husafell and a few sets of drags. I think he does more sets than anyone. Good job Jett!
Juan-> 16 years old and sets a big PR w/ 245 farmers for 75 ft. w/ decent speed. Ridiculous. Somewhere Brad weeps.
Leebo-> Did 250 farmers a few times but never made the distance. Finished with some drags as well.
Kim-> Handled 155 farmers nicely w/ good speed for 150 ft., couple drops. Then PR'd w/ 175 for about 40 ft.

Did some pressing and back work today. Pretty good workout overall.
The good news is my log clean & press was feeling good. The bad news is the Wisconsin contest is a max. The good news is I nearly set a PR on axle clean & press. The bad news is I think I bruised my chest cavity doing it. The good news is...oh wait that's it.
Brad also set a PR on axle clean & press w/ 218, but basically did 2 reps since he had the first one nearly locked out and brought it back down. I think he's good for another 10 lbs.

OK, cool. I'm gonna order some of the clearance, they are just my size, like 14.5 or 13.5 would work well for me, I think. I'm gonna run by Payless or something to get an accurate idea on shoe size, then I might order.
Olympic lifting shoes first, then Rehbands.

Brandon has been training so hard for this contest. We had a conversation not to long ago about it and strongman in general.
Brandon: I love yoke. I love...farmer's.
Me: Brandon, are you just looking at training implements and saying you love them?
Brandon: I love log.
Me: Do you really love the log or are you just saying that because you saw it?
Brandon: (exasperated) I love log!

LOUD NOISES!
I have been training hard, but not nearly like the aforementioned Brandon Campbell has. He trains so hard he is forced to take 15 minute rests/naps laying down on hot cement in between heavy sets. He says it makes him better in contests.
Like Brandon, I am also enjoying my rest week. Mine started last Wednesday though so I'll have had 10 days off. Did some cardio and stretching a few times but that's about it. Now just need to get some sleep!
