I need some opinions on this matter. Big Tony Scrivens and I are setting up the 1st Annual Fox Cities Strongman contest. In short, it's a Silver level contest with light weights because we want a lot of novices to try it out, and we want the events to be do-able. The only heavy event we have is the atlas stones. You can go here and take a look at the contest weights.

For the arm over arm truck pull, I got the local Hummer dealership to sponsor, so we'll be using Hummers for that event. We just haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward the H1 which weighs 8,300 lbs.
For the harness pull, a local trucking company might sponsor and provide day cabs (that's a semi without a sleeper). These trucks weigh 16,000 lbs, and we will have a rope assist. So, for those of you who have done this event, do you think this is too heavy for the type of contest we're setting up?

Hey Paul
I know for me that arm over arm and the truck pull are good events due to my size so that would be lite on a heavy weights side. But I think the weights you guys are doing should be fine for a silver event. I know you want allot of new guys to try out the sport and a silver is a good start. On the other hand I still think they should know what they are getting into, and if you make every thing lite than at their next comp. they are not going to know what to expect. You guys have found weights that are doable so I think it will go off with out a hitch. this is just my two cents worth. Good luck

Thanks Chris. We are letting the athletes know that the weights are light for the purpose of getting them to try it. We're also letting them know that this will be a Gold contest next year, with heavier weights. We're just trying to "break them in" the first time around.
Ben Hanson might be entering this contest. If you don't mind, pass this on to all the guys who competed at Dave and Jeff's contest, and the guys competing in Wayne's contest. I'm working on getting a sponsor hotel for a group rate.

I'll pass it along to all of the competitors I know. I'll be there if we're not still in the playoffs.

Paul,
The weight of the truck is not the biggest issue in determining the difficulty of the event. Most of it has to do with the grade you're pulling on. If it's pretty flat, then the weights should be no problem. Even a slight incline or a rough, pot holed surface can make the pulls nearly impossible though. If at all possible, I'd test these two events at the venue beforehand.

Hey man I was thinking of going out for it. That would be if we have any money after the comp. on the 22nd of the same month. So I will see how it goes. When is the deadline for entering it?

Dave,
Thanks for your input. Tony went to the school and said the parking lot is pretty flat. But, I like your idea of practicing out there before the contest.
Chris,
The entry form on Tony's website has a deadline posted of April 22. But, that's a type-o, because Tony really wants them in 2 weeks in advance, which would be the 15th. The main thing here is to get the right shirt sizes. You're a pretty big dude, so we'd want to get your contest shirt in the right size, along with shirts from sponsors that will be in the goodie bags. I don't think you want a goodie bag with XL shirts in it! I'll see you on the 22nd in Chicago!

I think the events are great, I will be doing this one as long as I can scroung
up enough money.
