How you train for olympic lifting and powerlifting. and how do rock both worlds! I do alot of both training as well, maybe we can get a good discussion going here.

also, do you have any pics or videos of yourself olympic lifting? If you have mini-DV video send it to me and I'll upload videos onto the forum if you want.

Forum members, would you like to see some videos of Kara? Callie has been doing some supurb snatching, squatting and push pressing lately, I'll get some of those videos put together as well.

i'd like to see some snatches from the side, profile view. there are all kinds of videos around from the front but i've never seen one from the side.

and like travis said, any pics or videos would be appreciated. Kara can videotape herself washing dishes and i'll watch it at least three times.

actually i do have tons of OL pics and some videos i will post up. give me a day or two on those dishes james. looking very forward to seeing callie's vids!

jesse you're right...this is an awesome discussion topic since so many people cross-lift between strongman, OL, PL and other sports. i'd love to hear how everyone balances the different forms of training.

with the exception of benching, my entire training regimen is straight OL. deep front and back squats, power clean&jerks, snatches, regular and high pulls, etc. i feel you get superfluous leg and back strength for a suited PL squat and deadlift. all the snatching gives me the ability & stability to go max legal grip on the bench bar, yielding an ultra short stroke and extra illegitimate looking lift ;)

can't say this is the best method of training for PL but it's the one i enjoy the most. i like the challenge and athleticism of moving a barbell quickly and efficiently in OL. however i also like the brute caveman-esque feel of PL :P

When I was powerlifting I powercleaned before squatting and powersnatched before deadlifting. I benched twice a week and jerked on a seperate day. I was basicly doing an abreviated OL program with a squat, bench, and dead thrown in as assistance.

Currently I'm focusing on improving my squat and dead and am using the olympic lifts as assistance for those. Everyone in powerlifting is doing speed training it seems like. The fastest lifts are the OL though. So I've always used OL as the means for achieving greater speed and more fast twitch muscle. My power lifts aren't that great, but I've found that when my power clean goes up so does my deadlift, but not visa versa.

Don't you dead around 8 and squat around 7? I'd consider that pretty great! You also ohp more than most people bench.

Kara it would be cool to see more videos of you beating the crap out of people too. This video is sweet. Notice Kara is hitting Ryan so hard she wears a wristwrap. Also notice Ryan is so intense that he is bleeding from his eyes.

everyone was all about the gore! :eek: i got stopped in the atlanta airport by a guy who was like...you're the slapper!! lol! next time i'm gonna take a hit of ammonia before i clock him :D i'll see if i can get the footage of me backhanding him sunday before his raw bench demo. that was fun :p

Kara, do you still train at Coffee's Gym in Marietta? Does John still help out lifters any more? I need technical help and I've been meaning to head down there and check it out - it's kind of got a famous reputation around the southeast, with big name lifters like yourself coming out of there ;)

Same thing here. My deadlift goes up just from squatting and powercleaning. If i did only deads tho, I think I'd lose weight on squats and cleans.

John Coffee is a neat guy, I just saw him at Collegiante nationals a couple months back, and he was animated as ever, probably has forgotten more about olympic lifitng than most of us will ever know, that awsome that you get to train at that gym.

okay here's some videos from my first meet back after a 4 year break. it was halloween, hence the black&orange socks ;) i'm not doing full squat style lifts, just power snatches and power clean&jerks. the weights are 70kg, 75kg on snatch and 90kg, 92.5kg on c&j. my form is grotesque to say the least but i'll post videos from nationals when i'm more technically sound :)

good stuff. your're 2nd pull is pretty good. on that last one all you needed to do was get your elbows up sooner. you pulled it high enough to nail it. my feet jump wide like that too when I'm out of practice. as my speen and comfort improves that stay in close.
