I read another post on here regarding balancing olympic-style lifting with plain old strength training. I am not going to be competing in either, but my goals right now are just to get as functionally strong as possible. I usually set up something Bill-Starr style with a form of squatting (either totally raw or just a loose belt, always olympic atf, front or overhead) on M-W-F, I follow that up with something for back like cleans, snatches, deadlifts, or a clean or snatch variation like a high pull or some type of explosive shrug, then I finish with a press for the upper body....like flat or incline bench, ohp, or push press, I will be doing plenty of jerks, as they are horrible, my form is good in that I KNOW HOW to execute them, but knowing how and doing it and getting the most out of it are two different things for me. I usually come to the gym on Sat to **ck around, I take my girlfriend's spinning class, swim a little and do some crap for biceps or some chins, I usually try to do calf raises here too.

I was wondering what exactly everyone else does and how they set things up? I know to be the best you can possibly be at Ol lifting or Powerlifting, or whatever, you need to specialize, but I would rather be proficient and respectable at everything right now......I see a lot of athletes, especially in strongman and in the throwing sports in tack and field with raw, pure strength and speed strength, so if anybody has a few minutes and can post a sample week, I'd appreciate it.

I'm kinda still learning OL, so I'm keeping my stuff pretty basic, going off the advice of a coach. I want to eventually go back to full power meets, so I'm benching twice per week. Just not getting crazy.

day 1 is full snatch( alternate weekly with hb snatch)
hb sn pull- alternate weekly with sn pull from the floor
oh squat
front squat
push press
then bp- I'll drop my bp rotation at the bottom

day 2 is power clean- alternate weekly with hb pc
clean pulls alternate weekly from floor and hb
jerk from rack
Romanian dl

day 3 is hb pwr sn and pwr sn from floor 3x3 and 3x3
anlternate squat clean from floor and hb
snatch balance
bk squat
military press
bp

my weights are kinda low due to the fact that I'm try to get my form with the full lifts on lock. right now my power movements are higher then my full lifts.

bp day 1 ,I'll do 3 weeks of reverse band, then 3 weeks in my shirt
day 3, I'll do full range raw and 3 board for 2 weeks, then 2 board, 2 weeks....

Once I get into the heavier weight with OL, I'll drop some of my movements.

A few thing I've learned by switching from pl'ing to ol'ing is I'm def keeping the power snatch in my powerlifting routines. I think they have crazy benefits towards powerlifting. Another thing I found is I'm not as fast with bar movement as I thought I was,lol and My balance sucks.

I'm my last power meet I fell back with 725 off the monolift, lol. Not funny at the time though. I've done 725 in training numerous times for triples.. My point being is I hope the balance I learn in ol will carry over to pl'ing.

i posted a sample program under program advice right now. it's sorta weak seeing as how i can't squat right now but i'm hoping in another 4-5 weeks to get back to squatting and then for the most part my program will be similiar to what you described a press, some form of squatting, and then probably 2 olympic lift exercises thrown in to each day. assistance i vary but for right now i am of the philosophy that in order to better my form on the main exercises i am better off doing a few back off sets instead of pulllovers, extensions, etc. the programs i put together also tend to follow the starr philosophy of h-m-l.
