Hello Gals and Guys,

This is a short interview with Mariusz Pudzianowski published in "Zycie Warszawy" (Warsaw's Life) on 05/30/2005. The original article is in Polish so I took it upon myself to translate it for you (I am not a licensed professional translator for all those copyright peeps out there):

Saturday on 'Pole Mokotowskie' you were once again unmatched. Isn't it boring to win all the time? Are your opponents too weak?

Boring? People are really hard to please! I win because I'm serious about what I do. I build up for the season and don't miss any competitions. Besides, winning in Poland isn't that easy. We have one of the strongest competitions in the world, great fan base, and a lot of hard competitors. The fact that I win all the time, doesn't mean that my opponents are weak.

Are you planning on competing in World's Strongest Man this year?

Absolutely! I have to win them! International powers that be do not like me. They are doing everything to prevent a Polish guy from standing on that top podium. During last year's competition there were a lot of strange things happening. For example, I was doing a car pull with its hand-brake on (note: he does not specify if others had the hand brake on as well, as I know they do that during some competitions to make it more challenging). I finished 3rd. In my opinion it happened because I had a chance to win it third time in a row. A lot of people did not like that.

How much does one have to eat to look as good as you? Bodybuilders have a strict diet calculated to within a single calorie. What about you?

I eat as much as I need. If you want to compare me to bodybuilders, multiply their meals by two. But I don't want to be compared to bodybuilders or the sport of bodybuilding. For me bodybuilders are like women. What kind of a guy takes off his clothes and poses in front of the mirror in tiny trunks?

A lot of your fans are wondering why you did not partake in Arnold Classic which is thought to be a very prestigous event?

This prestige comes only from one thing - a name in front of it. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a legend in the sport of bodybuilding. But the hardest competition is still World's Strongest Man. You also have to pay attention to Arnold's competitors. Zyndrunas Savickas won the Classic three times. In the last fours years, during our 20 meets I won 17 of them.

Mariusz is gonna eat his words about the bodybuilders, I'll post the pictures of him in a speedo in Zambia and the Bahamas real soon!! hahahahhaha

Nah mate, the general consensus is that he'd hjave to win it probably 2 more times to becoem the best ever.

And I think he would have to win it with Zydrunis and Vasyl(sp?) in the competition feild. In my mind there would also need to be at least one or two max effort events to go along with the race events.

I didn't mean to start another Mariusz debate.

For sure. Make no mistake, I think he's great. But alot of people feel Savikas has gone up a few notches and is the strongest man in the world right now.

there can be only one judge; competition results. I too think Zudrunis is up not just a few, but many notches. Untill there is a head to head in a normal contest, speculation is purely that. IMO, Marius would still crush him. Zudruins is too static strenght oriented. He is very heavy, too heavy for WSM type events. But then again, IFSA's events are a little different, and heavier, so he's prepared accordingly. Marius will never go IFSA, so untill Zudrunis comes back to WSM there will be no match up. When/if a head to head occures it will be on Marius's terf, so he will have the advantage...

A lot of people laugh at Mariusz being lean, wearing pro-tan and enjoying to pose.

You have to understand

Strong + Lean body = Easier to get big sponsors = more money

I really don't blame him.

2004 - Paradise Island, Nasau, Bahamas
--- --------------------- -------------- --------- ---------
1. Vasyl Virastiuk (Ukraine) 37 pts.
2. Zydrunas Savickas (Lithuania) 36 pts.
x. Mariusz Pudzianowski (Poland) 35 pts. (Disq'ed)

Last time they meet Zydrunis came in a point ahead in the Bahamas. And didnt they just meet at the Arnold's, LOL? I doubt if Zydrunis would be crushed, especially with a feild containing people like Vasyl and you Jesse who are going to spread points across the board and take events. Then with some static strength events added in.........

But we may never get to see it with the current state of strongman. Too bad.

The 2004 WSMC was a sham-and-a-half.

I understand the weirdo point system in the qualification heats, but what was wrong with the final?

The 2004 WSMC was a sham-and-a-half.

Wouldnt 2005 also be considered a "sham-and-a-half" because the weights of some events were lowered?
