I have most recently found out that alot of shoulder injuries occur during squatting...and yoke... or this is what I have been told...

this..only after finding out first hand. I was training yoke, finished my "set" and realized..my shoulder is EFF'D!!!!..it really doesn't hurt pressing, just the weight of the bar pushing down on it (during overheads). While doing yoke ..it doesn't hurt too much...only after i am finished and remove my grip..that ..I go OUCH!!...

so..I have a competition on the 13th of may, and was thinking of doing final event training on sunday, yoke, stones, tire, axle....I don't feel totally prepared for this comp and feel that I need one last day...SHOULD I JUST REST THE SHOULDER UNTIL THE COMP?...or do the training..and just try not to re-injure??

You may want to contact Carl Johnson, I think he had a similar injury on the Yoke.

Yep, same thing happened to me. You have to be very careful how you hold the yoke. On very light runs it does not seem to hurt my shoulder. But on runs with 600 or heavier it seems to separate my shoulder. The pain lasted for about two to three weeks when pressing overhead. I would not do anymore yoke until the contest for sure. Keep testing the pressing movements to see how they feel. Hopefully it will heel quickly.

How were you holding the yoke when the injury happened Carl? By the crossbar or by the sides?

Where in the shoulder does it hurt? From holding the yoke on the sides, I've sometimes developed bicep pain at the point in the shoulder where it attaches.

I was holding the Yoke like a squat...sort of the Phil Phister way..but I have noticed..that even if I hold on lower, at the sides...it can still create pain. Right now..my shoulder feels fine..but I haven't done anything with it...no presses..and no yoke...in a week...

the pain is sort of on the front of the deltoid, and maybe around to the back side of the delt...I don't think it is...near the bicep attachment area...

I did do tire flips tuesday, and there was no effect...I will take the advice and do no yoke..maybe do some real real light overheads to loosen it up...and just cardio the rest of the time until contest....

damn...who would've known you could wreck your shoulder doing yoke!!!! :disgust:

Yes, sounds strange. Were you allready having problems with it? It may of been holding on by a thread allready.

I have a comp. July 1st and about a week ago I did a max DL follow by a one uping sessions with my best friends and my back got taxed in a bad way. I try to keep training, but I just figured it would be better to give it 4 days off a get a massage. I hate taking time off and I cant remember a day when I missed some kind of training. I am just working on the part of my body that wont affect my back for the 4 days. I think this will benefit me. I could have realy hurt it if I kept going.
