i recently ripped one callous on my left hand and one of the ones on my right hand is starting to come off too. i didn't mind it all that much at first, and figured it would heal in no time, but i ripped it again today and its getting really painful to hold the bar while doing anything that requires a decent amount of grip (esp SLDL's and Shrugs). i was just wondering how you guys go about a situation like this. any responses besides the usual "don't be a pansy" (i'm trying, but its not working) are appreciated. I was forced to take off my shirt and work in a tank top so i could use my shirt between my palm and the bar because i couldn't hold onto the weight anymore. i should also mention that i refuse to use straps, so thats out of the question. gloves are a maybe but i'd rather not because i just like the feel of iron in my hands. any suggestions are welcome fellas and ladies.

Trim the leftover skin as best you can with nail clippers, use one of those pumice stones to file them down (or an actual file, a little more manly) then slather lots of NewSkin on them. 3 or 4 layers of NewSkin will get you through a workout then you'll have to re-apply for the next workout until they finally heal up.
NewSkin is a clear liquid that adheres to skin and becomes a bandage, you can get it at any drugstore.

Yea, when mine get big I cut them with nail clippers. That way they dont get pinched between the bar and rip off. For some odd reason, I dont get callouses anymore

I do like Steve Mac does - clip, pumice stone, but I use neosporin usually. That goes for pretty much any hand wound

I got impatient with the pumice crap and started using a dremmel w/ fine grit. Best thing ever for fixing callouses; takes all the ugly junk off your feet too, because every guy should have pretty feet.

You have to keep your calluses trimmed. Luckily my mom has a beauty license and has all kinds of neat little callus trimmer dohickys.

You can keep your hands soft by washing them with a exfoliating scrub, and don't forget the lotion!!! hehheahaha Where would men be in this world if they didn't have women???

I don't know. Gay guys without role models?

That would probably make for some scary strongman events.

Log Squat, anyone? (oh my god)

Jesse, please tell me she doesn't have you using exfoliating scrub and other femme junk to keep your hands soft. If she does you're only one step away from cucumbers on the eyes and brazilian waxes.

hahahahahaaha

Yan, buy a soap that hsa walnut shells in it, or some other abrasive material. Thats what exfoliating soap is. BTW Steve, I like to use it because it scratches me, and im one of those pain freaks. No waxing here :D

Jake, any brand or something you can recommend. i don't want to stand there reading every label to look for walnut shells, i'd rather come in ask where "brand x" is and get the hell out of that section asap. i'm gonna start using my brother's dremel to file down my callouses, i just need to buy some bits for it.

on another note, i used the new skin during my workout yesterday. i must've put like 5 coats on. it was working great for a while, lasted me almost my whole workout, it started ripping on me so i used some scotch tape from the front desk but after sweating and all it wound up coming off all the way so i had to skip shrugs (they are my pre-last move of the day). tomorrow i'm gonna bring the bottle of new skin to the gym and if it comes off i'll just take a break and reapply some.

If you go into the soap isle you will see that there are like 100000 types of soap, there should be an entire section of exfoliating soaps... The soap will help to sluff off the extra dry skin, and keep your hands smooth... I have never ripped a callous before, my competions are too light for me to do that... I am afterall the 2x lt wt champ!!! hehe
