What is the proper way to do bent over rows? Do you bring the bar to your chest or do you bring it to your belly/waist? I bring it to my chest but was recently told by a Pro bodybuilder that I should bring it to my waist. I wanna know some of the professional strongmen opinions. Thanks!!!!

Im not a pro.. or really a strongman, but there are 2 different types of rows. Bent over barbell rows, and yates rows. The yates rows you stand with your back at a 45* angle, and pull the weight up to your lower stomach/low chest area. Barbell rows, your back is perpendicular to the floor, and you pull the weight to your mid chest area. Dont know about the waist.. not to mention pro's dont necissarily know everything.

There is no wrong way to do them, but I prefer BB rows. Just be careful with your form.

It's the difference between the focuses of a low pull (lwr & mid lats)and a high pull (mid/upper lats, rear delts, traps, erectors, teres mjr/mnr, infraspinatus). Works different areas. Pulling to your stomach seems easier though (if you want to LOOK like your moving a lot of weight), and seems easier on the back as well. A real BBer should know the difference. If your way works for you, I'd stick with the way your doing it.

Jacob and Ryan provided some good info.I usually do them with a deep bend in my back, and pull the bar to the bottom of my sternum area.I try to focus on guiding with my elbows. It seems to make me use more of my lats and less of my arms.I sort of flare my lats out at the bottom, and squeeze my elbows and mid back in at the top.

Thanks Fellas!!! I hope I didn't offend anyone by stating I wanted to hear from a pro strongman. I was just making the reference because the bber (fairly well known one the lives here in vegas) seemed very matter-of-factly about this considering he dislikes me because I'm much stronger than him and bigger (all around). LOL!!! Makes sense that he would do the waist/lower ab way because it makes him look better. Go figure... Thanks!!
